  1. Obviously speculating but If Yates is the next manager why the hell didn't we just appoint him when LJ left. I don't understand the thinking behind leaving it till close season. unless we had someone lined up to take over when their contract expired at the end of this season. At the time we were still in with a great shout of the play offs, nothing has changed with respect to his (Yates) employment status, or the players being sold or contracts being changed. So why just let the season drift into nothing. I am not having a go at Dean under the circumstances I don't think he has done to bad, and could any manager have done any better with the horrific injury list we had, and the tough fixtures against teams who still had lots to play for. The players seemed to like him I think the goal celebrations and high fives amongst the coaches and players seem to back up that. I just feel that if we had employed someone earlier (whoever it would have been) it would have given the new man 2-3 months to look at the squad, put his own stamp on his own training and coaching techniques and regime, had a good look at the coaching and backroom staff and then done what he felt was right in the close season to push us on again. Instead we have drifted to the end of season nothing to play for, for the last half a dozen games as usual. Poor leadership and poor business sense in my opinion from the board and S.C.
  2. Who the hell were we kidding thinking that Corney would be appointing a Scholes, Rosler, Adkins, Warburton or Dowie calibre manager. Lack of ambition as always with OAFC!!! Best squad the club has had in years most on long term contracts / New stand nearly completed bring in more revenue / possibly highest league position and points total for nearly 5 years. / The highest calibre of applicants since Corney has been at the club and we are led to believe that this is the final 3 applicants. :censored:ing shocking!!! I hope I am proven wrong
  3. When I first started watching Latics in the mid 70's as a young un with my dad. My favourite player was a winger called Carl Valentine think he was Canadian, loved watching him play beat players and had pace to burn. At around the same time we had a Polish guy who used to take throw ins but did a somersault type roll after he threw the ball which I tried numerous times to mimic playing with my mates over the park but failed every time. can't remember his name and wouldn't want to attempt to spell it either. Oh those were the days.
  4. Said it from day one that he would be my number 1 candidate think he has done a brilliant job with Brentford and has been :censored: on big style by the new owners would have him here in a heartbeat. I believe that there are bigger and better jobs around for him though. Still we live in hope!!!!
  5. Peterborough have 3 very winnable games coming up and could be out of sight post Easter especially if they win against Swindon. IMO it is theirs to throw away. We could all dissect each game from all teams and try and predict the results but games come thick and fast this time of the season, form dips, injuries & suspensions occur, it has proven all season any team on their day can beat anyone in this division also there will be points dropped when teams play each other. All we can do is look to the next game and hope we get a win and the teams around us start falling away. We now have back to back wins and go to Bradford full of confidence another 3 points and who knows, the injuries are slowly coming back and the loan signings DH has made seem to clicking and gelling nicely. As always until we are mathematically unable to get into the Play Offs then I for one will be Keeping the Faith.
  6. Looking at the current table and the games we have to play. If we picked up the same amount of points as we have done already against the teams we still have to play = 13points It will give us 65 points which is not going to be good enough for a play off spot. 8 games left I reckon we need to win 6 of them which will be 70 points even then only 1 team in 16 years has made it to the play offs with so few points and that was in 97/98 season. The way the table is though it could well be that a team who gets 65-68 points may well get 6th spot.
  7. Top ten - it shows improvement and a solid base to work with and progress next season. However with the horrific injury list and the current free fall we seem to be in I would accept a finish between 12th -15th
  8. This should have been done 2 weeks ago. SC should now come out and say that interviews have taken place and his and the boards choice of manager is not available until the 1st June / July This must be the case as he has stated in earlier interviews that the applications that he has received were the best ever and he has an amazing and challenging decision to make as the applicants have been the best since he has been at the club. As previously stated in another post by myself I hope this means that Mark Warburton will be in the hot seat come the start of next season. Anyway Good Luck Dean till the end of season!!!
  9. Who is to say that a Warburton appointment at the end of the season is only a pipe dream. He will be out of contract and has been told that what ever happens his contract will not be renewed. Which means he will be out of work. He was on a coach / assistant wages of a league 1 club that was signed, pre take over and cash to spend foreign ownership days. We now have in the region of 75K (if you believe what read) in wages set aside for our new managers wage budget which won't be far off most league 1 managers 18 month - 2 year contract. + wages saved from LJ & Tommy. I don't think it is a pipe dream at all.
  10. Uwe Rosler - IMO only did as good a job as he did with Brentford due to Mark Warburton. I think this has been proved by what Mark Warburton has achieved since Rosler left Brentford and what Rosler achieved at Wigan. For me I would go for Scholes till the end of season with a pre contract agreement that Warburton comes in once his contract has run it's course with Brentford.
  11. We will be alright with FFP next season, LJ will come in with a 500k bid for Kelly & Wilson close season although they will be undisclosed bids of course.
  12. I really wanted him to stick to his principles and beliefs #one team one dream bull:censored:.More like #first opportunity I get I am out of here It just shows that there are very few morals left in football. If he had seen out the season failed in getting us to the play offs then walked to pastures new then so be it everyone would have said he served his time did a good job and both fans and manager can be proud that he took a club with a small budget to a new level and gave us hope for the first time in years. To walk out now for a few grand a week more sucks arse LJ.
  13. Sheridan has ruled himself out of the Barnsley job. Even though he still lives in Leeds. That is what was in last nights local paper here in Plymouth. Shezza was quoted as saying "he is building something big down here with the green army and wants to continue his work and see them promoted this season or next" That is some commute to work though!!!!
  14. Yes just read the same they seem to think that this will be a really tough game for them and some say their toughest yet this season, most will be happy with a point. No team will fancy coming to SDP on a freezing Febuary night. Get at them early doors put them on the back foot upset their passing game, try and get an early goal and then flood the midfield, stiffle and counter act their 5 man midfield. If we sit back and let them play football and pop it around as they did against Coventry it could be 0-3 by half time.
  15. Does anyone else think that the Carl Winchester situation is very much like Dale Stephens (albeit we bought Dale from Bury and Carl is one of own) But in any case Dale and Carl were both very much hit and miss both going out on loan to lower league clubs and not pulling up trees whilst there. Then all of sudden in one season the potential seems to come to fruition. Most fans could and can see the potential in both players and thought if they get some consistently into their game we could all see them playing at a higher level. Which Dale has done, let’s not make the same mistake with Carl let’s get him signed up long term. Ironically that they both started to perform consistently well and play their best football for the club whilst in the last year of their contract.
  16. Looking at those fixtures it is very much up to us to take advantage of being at home and take the 3 points of the teams that we are chasing or are in and around us. As always with Latics it is the games that you think we should win comfortably are usually the ones where we roll over and get our belly tickled. All matches whether home or away are now crucial to any team with play off or promotion aspirations. From now till the end of the season every week there will 3 or 4 matches involving teams in the hunt for promotion or play offs and if you pick up 3 or 4 wins or lose 3 or 4 on the trot, IMO will be the decieding factor.
  17. Reading between the lines of LJ's comments and what i have read in the news. i think the bids that were made were tentative and possibly more enquires rather than any official bids being made, I do think if we wanted to ship out and cash in, then the chance would have been there to do so, as i am sure there are a lot of admirers for one or two of our sellable assets. We didn't LJ and Corney stood firm and must be praised for that. I believe that, like most fans we have a decent chance of the play offs if we stay injury free of key players. Or at least the best chance for a few seasons. Any 2 teams from about 10 or 12 have genuine play off hopes and ambitions this season. Why can't it be us?
  18. I would take Madine any day of the week. Might be out of our wage structure though
  19. This is how it feels to be Oldham This is how it feels to be proud This is how it sounds when we all sing F****ing loud.
  20. 12 goals in 56 apps 1 in 4.5 game striker Over the course of a season would be a return of about 12-15 goals. Worth a punt in my eyes as i can't see any other forward / winger getting close to that tally who is in the current squad (apart from Forte and he was a gamble when he came here) Only 21 years old so hopefully with game time, experiance at 1st team level and confidence he will get better. W
  21. SSN - Reporting personel term agreed and could make his debut against Doncaster Saturday. 2 1/2 year 2k a week deal. I doubt they would be getting it wrong.
  22. Surely that should read: Chesterfield are skinter than us and have SPIRERATING debts.
  23. Don't understand this deal at all, unless Etheridge is off on International duty over the coming weeks?
  24. I think this just shows the market we are in and our transfer / wages fund when you compare it to other clubs in our division the likes of Bristol City who are closing in on or are inked with Matty Smith from Fulham and Posh in for CMS. Good luck to the lad and welcome to Oldham.
