Potential Centre Backs
cornishblue replied to cornishblue's topic in The opinions4u Terraces - Latics Forum
1500 - 2500 grand a week is better than no money at all. In this current climate where there are hundreds of free agents across Europe beggars sometimes cant be choosers. Money talks though and if another club comes in with a better deal, then I am sure they will be off to play for them. For some it might not all be about the money if they have been on 5-10 grand a week made enough cash to set up other ventures and businesses they may just want first team football, for the last few years of their career aka Gerrard, especially in an environment they feel comfortable in and welcomed. -
Potential Centre Backs

You used to be able to go onto the PFA website and be able to look at all the professional players that were currently without a club. I used it this time last year as I am sure many on here did, to create their best X1 freebie signings, but it was also a good pointer to have a look and see what players we could potentially be able to bring to club. However the site now seems to be members only site as you have to put in your membership number to look at the pages. Anyone got a link or a way of being able to view the website pages? -

Potential Centre Backs
cornishblue replied to cornishblue's topic in The opinions4u Terraces - Latics Forum
With regards to Gerrard, Some players will get disheartened if they are not in the managers plans especially if they have been at the same club for a while and in previous seasons been a 1st choice player. How often have we heard that joining a new club with new surroundings, different players and knowing that the manager has faith in your ability and wants you as a first eleven player changed players mind set and rekindled their love and passion for football. Whatever happened at Huddersfield, if anything happened at Huddersfield it didn't seem to happen here and hopefully with a new contract and a full preseason behind him, we get the strong commanding centre back that we know he can be. -

I guess that rules out him then -
Ok with DK bringing Jake Cassidy and George Green our forward and attacking signings seem pretty well done and dusted. Attention now moves to the defence. If the reports are true that Kelly was looking at potential right backs / right wing backs, and we all know that we need a 1st choice centre half to partner James Wilson. What are everyone's thoughts on who we should bring in? Anthony Gerrard being an obvious one. Maybe Roger Johnson ex Wolves and released from his short term contract at Charlton at 32 unlikely to get a deal in the Championship would be a fantastic signing but maybe out of our price range with regards to wages.

Jake Cassidy signs 2 year Deal

Goalkeeper / 1st team centre half / utility defender & defensive midfielder the latter 2 will probably be long term loan deals then we have a decent squad. -

Don't forget an experienced Goalkeeper / left winger to cover Forte / Kelly wants a right back so I make that about 6 signings if we do only bring in the 3 or 4 that has been suggested then I reckon the squad will be woefully thin and lacking proven league 1 class. I am not saying that squad need a massive shake up but we are relying on injury prone key players not getting injured and a lot of young kids stepping up to the mark. -
Squad movements, summer 2015
cornishblue replied to Crusoe's topic in The opinions4u Terraces - Latics Forum
Looking at the squad numbers from last season there are many gaps now we know the full released list and players who have signed their extensions. The following numbers are available for the squad next season. 1. Potentially Coleman 5. 7. Potentially Croft 12. 14. 17. 18. 19. 21. 22. 24. 25. etc.. Squad numbers don't mean much theses days I know but looking at that, I guess Colman will take No1 and Croft No 7, I guess a couple of the lower numbers will be moved up to fill the gaps. Still leaves us very thin on the ground in regards to an experienced 1st X1 and possibly play off challenging squad. To come in you would think the following :- Experienced GK Centre half possibly 2 (1 coming in on loan or academy under 21 player) Target man striker Kelly has stated he wants another RB Cover at LB unless they use Brown / Truelove Kelly has stated he is happy with the CM position unless there is money left over so maybe an academy under 21 player or post August signing. Cover down the left for the inevitable Forte injury keeping him out 3 - 5 months of the season. That is possibly another 6 - 8 signings. Any other areas that people think we need to strengthen. -

Potential Target Man
cornishblue replied to cornishblue's topic in The opinions4u Terraces - Latics Forum
Just looked up DJ Campbell Can't believe he played the back end of last season for Maidenhead United is that due to the fact he couldn't sign / play for another league team post his release from Millwall like Lockwood prior to signing for us, or is just due to the fact he is that crap these days? wouldn't have thought he was the target man solution, but we could get him on the cheap if he is playing at that level. -
Potential Target Man
cornishblue replied to cornishblue's topic in The opinions4u Terraces - Latics Forum
Ebanks Blake released from Preston after his short term contract had expired. Could do a job and maybe worth a risk, if he now realises that he is not a top end Championship quality player like he and his agent suggested. -
According to Chron the gaffer has stated and highlighted the shortages within the squad of us not having a target man who can link up the midfielders, hold off defenders and I guess get on the end of crosses etc... Some of our best football and results did come when we had Jabo Ibehre playing up front last season and the likes of Philly and Forte linking of him. Any thoughts of potential targets:-

The players offered deals
cornishblue replied to Lags's topic in The opinions4u Terraces - Latics Forum
Pretty sure they will be getting paid by the club until the 1st July so I guess that will be the deadline for a decision to be made. Most dealings will be done by the players agents as the players themselves will be away from the club now. -

New Kit 2015/16
cornishblue replied to SavageTheBeast's topic in The opinions4u Terraces - Latics Forum
Best kits we have had for a few seasons, like the kits especially the away one, good to see they have gone with blue shorts for the home kit and a retro 90's style. Like others on here can't understand the modern day style with the big shorts. -
I think we will all agree that Liam didn't pull up any trees in his first half a dozen games, but as the season wore on and his own fitness, strength and match sharpness returned and not withstanding the teams overall development to play the way that LJ wanted them too, I think he shone out like a light and showed how crucial he was to the team's tactics and ethos. None more so than when he was injured and the team capitulated whilst flirting with the play-offs. To me it boils down to:- 1. How much money Barnsley are willing to pay for him. 2. If DK can bring someone in Liam's position who fits his style of play better and is maybe a cheaper option. 3. If DK feels that he needs the money to strengthen other parts of the squad. Personally a Latics line up that doesn't have Liam Kelly in it is a weakened one, but how many of us said that when Korey Smith left.

Released By Other Clubs
cornishblue replied to Bristolatic's topic in The opinions4u Terraces - Latics Forum
Buxton, Coke and Madine from Sheff Weds would be good additions. As would Doyle of Birmingham (experienced goalkeeper who Coleman could learn off and push each other for the number 1 position) Sadly as stated already on this thread most first team Championship players will be way out of our price range at the moment the only we would be able to pick them up is once the season is under way and they still haven't found a club. -
New Manager thread.
cornishblue replied to Lee Sinnott's topic in The opinions4u Terraces - Latics Forum
One thing for sure is that the silence coming from the directors and chairman is deafening!!!! Would it be to wrong for them to come out once a week, with an update instead of all this guesswork from the fans and media. They don't have to mention any names, just that interviews are taking place talks are on going etc. etc. -
New Manager thread.
cornishblue replied to Lee Sinnott's topic in The opinions4u Terraces - Latics Forum
I understand that bringing a so called big name doesn't guarantee success but at least it would show intent to other clubs and fans in the same league, and even potential new signings, but most of all it would bring a positive atmosphere, excite the fans and maybe put a few hundred more bums on seats for the foreseeable future anyway. However like it has been suggested on here already I don't think Matt Chambers wouldn't have been given permission to write or publish yesterdays article if there wasn't a lot of truth in it.
