  1. Although he wouldn’t have been my choice I’ve far more faith in Mellon than I ever had in Unsworth and happy with him and think he’ll sort us out. I suppose I just get frustrated as I think we should be so much better. If you said at the start of the season we’d be mid table after 18 games I’d have been well pissed off, and I just can’t get excited at looking at the league table to see how many points we are off seventh place.
  2. But a home draw against anyone in this division is not a good result. Just because it’s better than losing doesn’t make it good
  3. My gauge is we shouldn’t be in Mid table, we should be challenging at the top of the league. Altrincham , after what I’ve seen after playing them twice, shouldn’t be above us, so I’m not celebrating a home draw.
  4. Surely we’re not dressing a draw at home to Altrincham as a good result?
  5. This has come about through our much lauded recruitment system, that the podcast lads were wetting themselves about last year. Unsworth didn’t have a clue what he was doing, so we were recruiting players to fit a system that didn’t really exist. The teams we were apparently copying have had an established identity so know what they’re doing and it works for them. We were just starting out with a numpty in charge and ended up with a mishmash of a squad with no set style of play. Its a good idea in principal but we need to establish a playing style or culture and have some success first before we go down that route.
  6. Oh I agree, but I can see why he always seems pissed off. He can’t change it on his own though, and we need all the others to step up too, which show’s little sign of happening. Hopefully Mellon can sort it out.
  7. He came here to the win the league., or at least have a good stab at it. He mentioned it a couple of times not long after signing, one being after his goal at Chesterfield shortly before Unsworth conceded it. We’re nowhere near that and the team is nowhere near as good as he was no doubt led to believe it was, so I can see why he’s frustrated m, and probably thinking “what the fuck have I done?”
  8. We got wind that he was available, steamed in to get him without a thought of how to use him, and still have no idea now.
  9. No matter how hard some try and steer this back onto the subject of football, others seem to want to steer it back to the trouble yesterday. Some of our fans are bell ends. Some coppers are bell ends. End of. Great win though.
  10. There was always a bit of a thing with Tranmere, then Ronnie Moore really stoked it up every time we played them. He loved going on about how we didn’t like him and he didn’t like us, then there was that when his son was ‘signing’ for us. Like many of us older ones, I grew up hating Bolton, and to a lesser extent (although not by much) Blackburn and that still won’t leave me to this day. Nothing will ever come close to my lifelong hatred of those red bastards though.
  11. Was it not Belgium or am I thinking of someone else?
  12. Agree with a lot of this. We struggle to gain back control of games once we’ve lost it, retreat, and the opposition dominate the ball. Yesterday we kept our defensive shape very well, with Magehey holding his position well and Hogan having probably his best game for us. I think Hobson’s at that level now where, although he’s clearly our best player, he won’t get many MOM awards because he hits high levels every week, whereas people tend to go for a player who surpasses his norm. Lundstram has that lovely drop of the shoulders that takes players out of the game with one move, and once he’s up to full fitness should be a big asset. We need more from midfield and out wide though, and hopefully Mellon can get us playing higher up the pitch so we can dominate more and Norwood doesn’t have to keep coming deep for the ball. We have to impose ourselves more, but if he can make the right additions and get the best out of what we’ve currently got, then there’s still time to get up amongst the leaders
  13. I doubt Mellon knew Magehy existed before today. I must admit I’d forgot
  14. Just ignore Mcfluff. It shouldn’t be hard to do
  15. Surprisingly enough, nothing on the Latics website
  16. If both clubs have to agree then we’re as greedy as them
  17. So our new manager won’t join us until he’s knocked us out of the FA Cup?
  18. I’m not sure which is scariest, Barry Owen still hanging about or the possibility that there’s someone out there pretending to be him
  19. There’s enough there to be challenging near the top of the league. We’re maybe not as good as we thought we were, but I’m sure we’re a lot better the man we’re showing
  20. A simple article on the website over the weekend or yesterday saying they were waiting for the tickets, how many we were getting and would be on sale the minute they had them wouldn’t have gone amiss.
  21. Seems that way to me. All these ‘wonderful things going on behind the scenes’ doesn’t seem to extend to the ticket office or looking after fans who want to go to away games.
  22. Exactly. Everyone demanded change, nothing much has changed, now we need to leave it as it is. Ive nothing against Thompson but think a lot of his popularity is down to the fact that he’s not David Unsworth.
