  1. In my opinion losing Chris Taylor would be a big blow to our chances of promotion next season. Whilst I agree with many he hasn't played in his most effective position for most of his career with us he has however done an effective job wherever he's been asked to play. He can play anywhere across midfield and in both full back positions...a mister versatile if you like, and I think he would play on his favoured right wing next season with the players we plan to bring to the club. If you look at most opposing fans websites post match, throughout the season,he is the player most fans pick out as our best performer. If Doncaster won promotion and he wanted the move then that's okay but if they take him and stay in our division then I would be gutted. I don't think some of our fans realise what a good player he is and what's more he's a true Oldham lad!!!! For me it would have to be an offer in excess of 600k, and from a championship club.
  2. That's probably the best bit of EARLY business I can ever remember at the club. Both players were being chased by a number of bigger clubs and come with a good pedigree. I can't beleive it, the season isn't even over yet and we've already got a couple of new faces. We're normally waiting until July before the action starts and hopefully means that for a change, we'll have the full squad for the season sorted before pre-season training starts. A couple more signings and we'll be ready to give it a real go, I think this shift in direction by the club should be applauded!!!
  3. Somebody on here said Kieran Lee will sign on Wednesday so I'll go for him!!! What's the crack with Yantorno as his name keeps cropping up...I thought that deal was dead in the water and he'd signed for Hibs...unless someone knows different!!!
  4. Be great if he signed as we've faffed about with the goalkeeping position for far too long and it would be good to have two top keepers fighting for the jersey, but, until it's on the O.S. that he has signed it will remain just another rumour!!!
  5. You would have to be offering top money to sign players so early in the close season. Contracts usually finish in June and players will hold for the best deal and who can blame them!! I would be surprised if we were to sign Fleming from Gretna so early, unless its a deal he can't refuse. Until confirmed by the O.S I would take all rumours for what they are...just rumours!!
  6. The flaps are down when taking off also for lift!!
  7. THE only way to increase fanbase and get bums on seats is to have success on the pitch. We've had TWO relegations and more or less 12 crap/mediocre seasons in a boring, predictable division. People are bored stiff of crap football in a crap stadium.... what did the owners expect!!!! On a cold Tuesday night....Man U v Inter on telly for nowt or Oldham v Bournemouth...enough said!!!! Simon Corney's rant about the fans is true....we are a fickle lot, but the timing of the outburst couldn't have been worse!!! They have spent a lot of money over the last few seasons and are entitled to a return on their considerable investement, however, the team managers should have done much better with the players we have available. It is up to the manager to get the best from the players...something that hasn't happened since TTA arrived. Next season is an important one for the club and more so for for John Sheridan. One good promotion season is all it will take to help get the club back on it's feet but sadly the longer this barren run continues the worse the situation will get!!!!!
  8. Dont know where you've dug those figures up from...under 20,000????? Their average crowd in 74/75 in the old 2nd division was about 50,000 and I think when we played at Old Trafford that season the crowd was around 56,000!!!!
  9. It's a fine balancing act, to keep or sell, but if we can get 250k now and sell ons or extra's based on appearances then I don't think a club in our position has much of a choice!!
  10. If the money could be found then he or Croft are the type of players we will need to get out of this division. We took a massive gamble on Ricketts which failed, and were reportedly interested in Berger and even though it never materialised it does show that the TTA have the ambition and the backing for the right players. What I don't want to see is Sheridan dithering about with a week to go before the opener......let's get our targets in early and show we mean business! I don't think the likes of Huckerby would represent too big a gamble and a major signing of that type could just be an extra boost to our season ticket sales. Could it be that the reason for the lack of a Bradford/Huddersfield type season ticket offer means that we're looking at other ways to bring in the fans.....you never know!!!!
  11. "For every ultra success like Richards, I'll show you loads more who just drifted back to obscurity" Unfortunately, that is exactly why a club like ourselves has to sell. If we got 20,000 in the ground every week then we wouldn't have to sell are young talent...we just have to treat it as another income stream. A Promising player at 16 doesn't mean to say at 21 he'll be worth millions. Teams like Man U can buy players like that every week and if they don't quite make it at premier level then we get them back....probably for nowt! We got 250k from Everton for Spencer and you've never heard his name mentioned since. If he had stayed here he could have ended up like Wolfenden who's probably about to be released. If this Leta guy does go to OT then we'll have raked in £750,000 in 3 seasons...alot of other clubs would love a youth conveyor belt like ours and a greater fear is that with his record, Tony Philliskirk could also be poached sooner rather than later.
  12. I agree, as Shez has said on many occasions Mcdonald is a model pro, Liddell encourages and talks to the kids and they are good players to have around the club, but to get out of this division we need consistent players who can do the business ON the pitch week in week out. Mcdonald on the bench for me, and Liddell would be a squad player at best. If we don't get the 3 or 4 quality players needed to add to this squad then we'll be in the same situation come next May. I know it's hard to get top players to this club on our budget but we need that midfield playmaker and/or another winger. We have to really have a go next season. We simply have to be challenging by Christmas time otherwise it's going to be very very difficult to keep the likes of Davies and Hughes at the club during the transfer window.
  13. Lack of support and ambition from the board???? Do not understand that statement at all, Without throwing money away I don't think he could have a more supportive board!
  14. The Leeds court hearing on the points deduction is any time soon...is it possible they may lose their case and be deducted more points by the league for contesting the decision. If that were to be the case, after last nights results the season is definitely not over!!
  15. To everybody on here who slated Shez when getting rid....I think that finally vindicates most of the posters on here were right.....HE IS CRAP!!!!
  16. It's a guesstimate if I'm wrong then I'm wrong!!!!
  17. There's a fair few on this site not happy with the season ticket prices and I too thought they may have done something radical, however I don't think a Huddersfield type scheme would work here at Boundary Park. Even if they had filled the ground (10,000 home) with season ticket holders you'd have had a shortfall of about 500k. TTA have been subsidising this club for 5 years and had to buy the ground as well. The geezer at Huddersfield has only just arrived and they are looking for a short sharp fix. I want promotion next season and we have to pay a little extra for success then so be it, Bradford had 12/13000 every game but ended up mid table. If we go up next year all the hype surrounding season tickets will be forgotten!!! What would you rather have...£5 a game or promotion?
  18. Pretty sure the Lookers will not be used again after the last home game...even if it is November like you say, you've still got safety certificates to consider and there will probably be some sort of preparation required before the demolition can take place. I think you can safely condem the stand to the history books come May.
  19. Motivation isn't a problem against Everton and Leeds, the fact they were playing at Goodison and Elland Road was enough. It's games against lesser opposition where we tend to struggle and that's where your motivational skills are most needed. Consistency has been a big problem this season and you really don't know which team is going to turn up. If we don't sort it out, next season will be just the same.
  20. Although injuries have played their part, we have had another hugely dissapointing season once again. I think we have to do something radical to get the interest of the supporters back as there a lot of fans drifting away from the club, so, 1) We could offer a season ticket initiative...like Stoke..Port Vale..Bradford. 2) We could gamble on signing an ex premiership star like a Paul Scholes or a Teddy Sheringham. 3) We could bring in a director of football like ... Joe Royle or Ron Atkinson. 4) We could change the manager....Bristol C with Gary Johnson, M K Dons with Paul Ince, and Swansea with Roberto Martinez, have all turned their respective clubs around in one season. 5) We could sit back and do nothing different. Personally I'd keep Shez for one more season and hope it all comes good, however we've had high expectations for the last 4 seasons and so far it hasn't happened and many of the fans are growing tired of all the false dawns. Any of 1,2, or 3 would be my choice. What's the general opinion....any other ideas?
  21. I'm with you YD on this ...we simply have to try something new. If you go to a match with a couple of kids you feel like you've bin mugged just to get in and are reluctant to spend anymore inside the ground. If we can get more fans to commit to a season ticket then they will definitely spend more on the day. We also have to get Bars in every stand and capitalise on the extra punters. People are getting bored at Boundary Park and are leaving in droves, and it's partly due to a lack of excitement. The atmosphere in a full stadium, eg. Huddersfield in the cup is so much better. The whole matchday experience would be better. Nobody wants to sit in a half empty stadium and if we can do it on the pitch as well, next season could be brilliant!
  22. Although the housing market has stagnated their is still a huge market for affordable housing for eg. first time buyers, to get on the property ladder. If the housing built is at the right price then there won't be a problem! TTA won't have gone in to this blind and I think, will have other options to fall back on.
  23. Did anybody ask the panel if there was any truth in the rumoured signing of Fabian Yantorno from Gretna?
  24. How can we be so sure that it wouldn't generate the required number....if we don't try we will never know. Bradford had the bottle to try something new and it worked! From my own personal point of view I can only get to 1/2 the games due to shift work but if the season ticket was priced at say £200 I'd definitely get one as I could afford to miss a few games and not be out of pocket. I may also be tempted to book time off work to attend games I wouldn't normally go to. They have to do something next season to get fans, especially the young kids, through the turnstiles...it's not just the match ticket when you add the car park and a programme your talking £26 and that's without food or drink....Throw in a couple of kids and it's beyond the reach of a lot of fans and far too much in my opinion.
