  1. In July they were probably just looking after the pitch for pre-season...no point cutting the pitch up for a meaningless friendly!
  2. Nothing on both official sites to suggest a possible postponement so unless there's a deluge I reckon it'll be on! However they might be waiting for all our tickets to go before announcing the possibility. They would get a much lower gate for a rearranged night game...unless of course we are still top!!!!
  3. If I was a betting man I'd back Taylor and Gregan to start....it may also be a bit of gamesmanship by Shez!!!
  4. Your'e avin a laff aren't you....O'Grady, Lee, Smalley, Davies can all cover those positions and injuries are just part and parcel of the game. This is when players have a chance to stake a claim for a regular place and why we have improved the squad. They should be chomping at the bit. Losing players of the quality of Hughes and Taylor is not ideal but if the players coming in are at the top of their game then we will be more than good enough to see off Tranmere. Keep the flamin faith!!!!!!
  5. Stand corrected..you are spot on it's on the official site. Emergency loans only now and for a maximum of 3 months. It's a shame cos I reckon Phillips would have been a brilliant addition to the squad. You never know now that he's on our wish list he might provide that little spark from January onwards!
  6. No I think the loan window is closed for a week and then reopens for a while longer.
  7. Glad we've not done any panic buying as there was no need. We have a good squad and a first eleven to match anything in this league. I we can get Kalala and Thompson out on long term loans and maybe Wolfenden then it will give us scope to take Phillips for a season. Looks like Richie Byrne will probably sign a contract as he's unattached and that gives us cover for Lomax and central defence. I reckon it's looking real rosy and this team can get better and better...Bring on Tranmoore!!!!!
  8. There's no way they'll give us anything like that figure and he may yet stay at City for the whole of his career. I'd sit on it for now as in the future he may end up at Arsenal who I think is the team he supports.
  9. Train from Rockferry to Chester at 17.27 and every half hour after the game is about £4...station is about 15mins walk from the ground.
  10. Come on be realistic we will have hiccups along the way and no matter how good you think we are we ain't goin to win every game.!! The fact is we have been 2 goals behind in a couple of games and come back to claim 4 points.... we wouldn't have done that last season so you've got to be happy with that, if we win at Tranmere next week it will have been a fantastic start to the season and this team will get better......my cup is definitely half full!!!!!!
  11. Wasn't a shaven headed guy by any chance?
  12. I have always lived close to the ground and have supported Oldham all my life and took my son from being 4 years old. Now we live in Dukinfield and although still fairly close if you want a drink then it's 2 buses to the ground and 2 buses back. I work shifts so I probably attend about half of the home games with my son and as many away games as we can. Problem is when I'm working my son doesn't go as all his mates are Man U or City and he can't be arsed going on his own. We've been on the train to Hudds, Tranmere, Wolves, etc...win or lose have a booze and it's always a great day out. He is out of work at the moment but under normal circumstances, I am certain if he had a companion to go with regularly he would buy a season ticket and go home and away. With so many closet Blues and reds I'm sure this is a common problem as to why many fans don't attend. Is there a supporters branch in the Ashton area as I am sure there are other supporters in surrounding boroughs in a similar situation.
  13. I never rated that guy, to me he never looked comfortable with the ball. The fact that he's never settled anywhere he's been tells you a story!
  14. Phillips is on duty with Jamaica next week so I can't see it being him at the moment. I think loan deals are allowed for another month after the deadline so we could still sign him later. I think it will depend on Thompson and Kalala getting fixed up by Monday and one or two fringe players eg. Wolfenden going out on loan. Although Lomax has been pretty good I think the player coming in will be a left back...We shall see!
  15. Not sure , but I thought he was from Radcliffe?
  16. SMS.....Just been made available for transfer, either loan or permanent!
  17. My dad took me to my first game on Boxing day 1962 and you don't need reminding of that result. I remember it like it was yesterday and my dad took me to a few home games in those days. When I started senior school everybody seemed to be Man U or City and I have to admit to be in with the crowd I went to Old Trafford a few times in the mid sixties but there was never anything for me to get excited about and while everybody was jumping around I was ...well ..pretty bored by the whole experience. I suppose I started to go to Boundary Park on regular basis in the mid to late seventies during the Ken Bates era when we played in Tangerine. I think young lads in those days were influenced by who their dad supports and I certainly was, however, these days Man U and City get so much exposure that kids really don't have a choice. I reckon we have to tap into local primary schools, get kids interested in the club from a very early age, maybe organise day trips both home and away by the club including free admission to a live game cos if we don't I can't see a long term future for our club. I would let all juniors under 12 in for free as they are the future of the club. However, to really progress we're going to have to have some success on the pitch and at the very least get into the championship. Dead simple really...init!!!
  18. Still not a hint of the Corney outburst on the official site...makes you think that it's the rarely wrong Chron taking his words out of context. I'm very suspicious that nothings appeared on the OS or that there's been no comment from the club!
  19. So what your'e saying is The Welsh FA, Premiership scouts, Championship scouts, and our backroom staff are clueless.......as has been said previously there was no need for this topic in the first place!!! He is a young lad with plenty to learn but one hell of a prospect...leave the lad alone!!!
  20. Reckon he could be on his way to Tranmere as they've just got the cash from the Davies tribunal and he'll probably make his debut against us!!!
  21. This point has been touched on a few times in recent weeks but even Shez said in his post match interview. " You could see that the players who came in need games " This reserve situation is clearly going to affect our general match fitness and a friendly once every 2 or 3 weeks is not going to help matters. I really hope the club have made the right decision but there's no way that you stay match fit playing friendlies where there are no trophies and league positions to worry about!!!
  22. A little disappointed as we could badly do with a good cup run. Think this shows that although we have strength in depth we can't expect to make wholesale changes without it making a difference. Winning breeds confidence and we could have done with extending our run, however, if we get a draw at Colchester and stuff Tranmere this result will be quickly forgotten. Roll on Saturday!!!
  23. I understand your logic here but wasn't the £500,000 used to offset losses already incurred!!
