  1. This point has been touched on a few times in recent weeks but even Shez said in his post match interview. " You could see that the players who came in need games " This reserve situation is clearly going to affect our general match fitness and a friendly once every 2 or 3 weeks is not going to help matters. I really hope the club have made the right decision but there's no way that you stay match fit playing friendlies where there are no trophies and league positions to worry about!!!
  2. A little disappointed as we could badly do with a good cup run. Think this shows that although we have strength in depth we can't expect to make wholesale changes without it making a difference. Winning breeds confidence and we could have done with extending our run, however, if we get a draw at Colchester and stuff Tranmere this result will be quickly forgotten. Roll on Saturday!!!
  3. I understand your logic here but wasn't the £500,000 used to offset losses already incurred!!
  4. Why not have a presence in Morrisons, Azda, or Tesco's...every single family makes at least one trip a week to the local supermarket. If the outlet ties ticket offers into selected products or customers spend then it may cost the club little or nothing at all!!
  5. It's a fine balancing act though isn't it...picking the right time to sell and I don't think it's the right time after only 2 home games. Scaremongering is not going to put extra bums on seats and Corney doesn't need to tell us the harsh truths every couple of months as I'm sure everyone is acutely aware of the economics. If we get to December and there is no improvement then that is the time to recoup some money. I just feel it is another ill-timed knee jerk doom and gloom story of which Simon Corney seems to excel!! If we're still in the top places at Christmas time then I'm sure everything will look after itself and renders this outburst as pointless...and if we're not then the fans will be expecting a Trotman type sale and I don't think the vast majority of fans will complain.
  6. Excuse my ignorance but why does it have to be £20 on the day...why can't it be £18.
  7. I can understand when Corney says the squad is not sustainable on crowds of under 5000 but you have to look at it over a full season. We are only 2 home games into the new season so I'm hopeful that the crowds will increase and IF we continue to produce results and entertain as we have so far then I'm optimistic our average come May will be nearer 7000. We've had 15 or so years of absolute rubbish to contend with and I can understand people staying away. We are in the middle of a resession...people are losing their jobs...people are losing their homes...we have the worlds most famous club only 20minutes away and another premiership club even closer. We have to earn our support and thus, it is unfortunately, totally related to our performances on the pitch...get that right and we have a fighting chance. Through no fault of TTA we have a three sided stadium for the foreseable future with poor facilities.... TV Coverage of the premier league is at saturation point and it's £20 to get in to watch 3rd division football, people are going to choose which home games they attend. Millwall and Cheltenham are really not games that would capture the imagination of the Oldham public are they? I think we're 2 good results away from the start of an upturn in attendances...4 points from Colchester and Tranmere and we should get upwards of 6000 against M K Dons. It's not going to happen overnight and like the Joe Royle era It's going to be a gradual increase over the course of the season and only if we continue to challenge. Sorry if that's doom and gloom but I'm being realistic...Aren't I ????
  8. Of course I have a grasp of the rule so don't insult my intelligence, I hate sitting down as much as you do but the rules are not laid down by the club are they? It only needs 1 person to stand up for whatever reason and it spirals because people behind cannot see before you know it everybody's stood up. Yes, the stewards maybe a bit over the top and perhaps should use a little more understanding but they have to be firm and be seen to be doing their job because some fans would stand up the whole time if they weren't challenged!! Like I've said before there should be standing areas at all grounds and I don't understand how you can have a rule for football stadia that doesn't apply to Rugby etc. However, seated areas are definitely not safe for standing, I've been pushed from behind on several occasions whilst stood up and only just managed to stay on my feet, the seats in front are below knee high and believe me if you fell over them you'd do yourself a major injury! The rule isn't ideal but for the time being we, and more importantly the club, will have to abide by it until someone say's different.
  9. You can't have been to Tranmere then because they are the pits. I have every sympathy with what your saying as it's a long way to come and you want to enjoy the occasion but rules ..as daft as they seem have to be adhered to as if not the club could be punished. I must admit having to sit down for ninety minutes is a pain in the a*** but they're league rules and you have to abide by them. I'm sure if clubs lobbied hard enough they could get Singing/standing allowed back in paddock areas!!
  10. That's going to do the club a world of good and if everybody thought that way we'd have no football club at all. I think all the hype surrounding the Millwall game has got people including the Stewards over reacting. If you complain enough the club will listen, as the last thing they want is to alienate their fans!! It will all settle down in a few weeks just give it a bit of time...if your not happy in the RRE get in the Chaddy but for god's don't desert the club as it needs your support now more than ever!!!
  11. Didn't say that he was just a predator and yes there is so much more to his game but a penalty box predator he most certainly is!!!!
  12. Yes it is, but we've flattered to decieve before and we've got to produce a sustained period of form to get the fans back...we've had a great start but that's all it is and we could come crashing down just as quickly. If we can continue to play like this and keep picking up victories then I'm sure crowds will improve!!!
  13. We know Hughesy is essential to our promotion hopes, he's a penalty box predator and most teams will only have one like that if they're lucky. If he gets injured then the guys warming their arses on the bench will just have to come in and do the business that's why we have a strong squad. I'm confident that O'Grady and Davies will take their chance when it comes. Remember O'Grady is still finding his feet in this league and Davies...well we know what he can do if he applies himself. My only fear is that a club might come in with a silly offer for Hughes in the next few days and unfortunately every player at this club has his price, if we can keep him beyond the transfer window then we'll be OK, and then it's a case of still being in the promotion places in January! I'd also like to think that if we can continue this form over the next month or so then slowly the missing supporters will be enticed back because it will be impossible to keep this side together on crowds under 5K!!!
  14. Brighton go top after beating Southend 2 v 0 at Roots Hall. Both goals coming in the last 16mins after Southend had Moussa sent off!
  15. I think he want's a stab at the championship next year and if we don't go up I think he will probably go! Can't really blame him as he will want to maximise his earnings in the few years he has left. If we are looking good for promotion around December time I think the club will attempt to tie him to a new deal. If he can stay fit this season he'll be a very important player for us and could make all the difference to our chances.
  16. What's all the fuss about, It's not too bad at all ..... they could wear bloody pyjamas for me as long as we are promoted and the sponsor's money keeps rolling in I couldn't give a toss!!!!
  17. Excuse my ignorance but is teamcard distibuted to season ticket holders only?
  18. Yes, because the bookies are stupid!!!!!!
  19. Think he will be here fairly soon as it's just a case of balancing the books....If we can offload Kalala which hopefully will happen before the transfer window closes then I think it will happen...fingers crossed!!!!
  20. I reckon if he steps out of line again he may be on his way...he came here with a bad reputation and he's not done to much to change? I just don't think he will improve that much and think pretty much what you see is what you get! Let's face it if he had a brain he'd be in the championship now or higher!
  21. I've been watching Latics since the early sixties and although I couldn't attend on Saturday I can imagine what it was like in the RRE. The language arguement just doesn't wash as it was just as bad 40years ago...it's was a working mans pastime in those days and that was when you didn't swear in front of women and children. I still don't swear if families are around but it's a fact that society has changed and right or wrong swearing is now common place. At the end of the day they are only words and you would struggle to find any parts of the ground that are free from swearing. You can protect your children all you want but at the end of the day when they are older they may or may not be offended by it and will decide for themselves what is right and what is wrong. As has been said the visit of Millwall is not the best opening game for obvious reasons but for god's sake why would you take your young children to watch football sat so close to the away supporters. If you were genuinely offended by bad language then you wouldn't go to another football match in your life!!!!!!!
  22. This has been done to death now but Davies is a prat!! We've had a complete close season for the coaching staff to work on him and by the looks of things he hasn't listened to a word they've said, I think he's the most frustrating player I've ever seen at Boundary Park. Long term I can't see how a Hughes Davies partnership is going to produce the goods. Davies's positioning play is very poor, and he hasn't got the necessary upstairs to make a decent striker. I'd much rather see Allesandra or O'Grady alongside Hughes. The only position I would play Davies in is as a lone striker ala 4-5-1 as he seems to play by himself most of the time anyway!!!!
  23. He's not a bad player and has all the attributes but I wish he'd play to his strengths. He really thinks that he can just stroll around with the minimum of effort, he hardly makes any runs while Hughesy's all over the place. He's a shadow of the player we signed last season......Big improvement needed!!!!
