  1. Yes that is down there with people who start every answer to a question with "So...."
  2. What we didn't see was DU off-camera threatening him with being put in goal against Aldershot
  3. Your points there are spot on. As you say people spent a lot of time and money on Saturday, added to which the usual new season optimism was boosted by some decent transfer activity over the summer. Unsworth can’t guarantee 3 points v Aldershot, but he could admit that last Saturday was poor and say that at least next time the effort and application will be far better.
  4. I know we've been starved of success for over 30 years, but that is (literally) going a bit far!
  5. To be fair you possibly have to be insane to have followed Latics for over 50 years as some of us have. Well, except for the good times under Frizzell and Royle, of course.
  6. I'd be happy for Wild to come back, but Barrow finished 9th in L2 last season. Is there evidence that their ambitions are less than ours?
  7. Was it 5 yellows or 6 that we ended up with? I’m splitting hairs I know, either is too many.
  8. Well I hope you have a better day than you did on Saturday! I saw SLF at the Corn Exchange in Cambridge in the late 70s. God they were loud - and I was young then!
  9. To be honest, at the moment if we had time travel and could get Cafu at his peak into the side, I worry about what Unsworth might do with/to him!!
  10. Good point Monty. I've posted on another thread that a worry I have about Unsworth, Ebbrell & co is that I can't see evidence that they've developed any of the players since they took charge. Mindset is a big part of that - where is the winning mentality? I also agree it's not to be confused with yellow and red cards - refs have been told to clamp down on indiscipline this season and our lot need to learn that lesson very quickly.
  11. That's an interesting view. I would say that most people (including the bookies) looked at the squad ahead of the Southend game and thought we'd recruited decently over the summer and so we looked on paper a decent promotion bet (I know bookies' odds reflect weight of money staked, but they are also usually a reflection of consensus views). What I find worrying about Unsworth and the coaching team is that there is scant evidence since his/their arrival of players being improved by him and his team. Whether that's down to playing certain players out of position, or an overly risk-averse mindset, I'm not sure. It's important to recruit well , of course, but it's also important to develop players and I just can't think of an example of Unsworth achieving that. In fact you could argue that some players have declined under his management.
  12. Only one less?! That doesn’t often make such a difference. It’s not as big a handicap as in rugby union.
  13. That’s as lame as the team’s performance yesterday.
  14. They had 2 pre-season friendlies, we had, six was it? They certainly shouldn’t have been as match fit as us. Yet they managed to score 3 goals in the last 10 minutes. Go figure.
  15. There is more chance of Unsworth producing an all out attacking team that scores for fun, than there is of anyone forgetting the form from 1 Jan to the end of last season, because Unsworth fans bang on about it incessantly. But hang on a minute: 1 Jan - end season: P24 W11 D8 L5 F40 A27 Pts 41 Win % 45.83 Goals per game 1.67 Overall league record P38 W13 D11 L14 F53 A54 Pts 50 Win % 34.21 Goals per game 1.39 Yes there was an improvement in results H2 and we went from 22nd to 12th in the table. But does 11 wins from 24 mean we should just sit back and give Unsworth ever more time? I want to see us winning the majority of games, not 46% of them. The second half of last season also saw us lose 3-1 at home to Gateshead in the FA Trophy, ending any hope of a Cup run and visit to Wembley. When you’ve been starved of great days out for as long as we have, that matters. The best you can say about last season’s run is that Unsworth made us hard to beat - 5 defeats in 24 is good. But given the backing from the Rothwells, we should expect much more from Unsworth. The clock is ticking for me .
  16. there are 45 games to go. If we’re going to nitpick, let’s not let our grammar go. Now that we are bottom of the table, standards are more important than ever. I know you’ll understand.
  17. It's possible you are being heavily ironic but if fans have travelled all that way in filthy weather and seen 5 bookings, a red card and a 4-0 drubbing then I think they're entitled to boo the team off. Do you think they should have given them a standing ovation?
  18. Other than the 5-1 at Hollywood, we didn't lose any games by such a margin last season. This is inexcusable.
  19. 4-0 this is out of order. And now Chesterfield are beating Dorking.
