  1. Now THAT is quality gossip. But where is the photo Señor?!
  2. I can't imagine what Steve Robinson's life must have been like these last few weeks and the pressure he must have been over. It probably is best for both parties to let him go. Good luck to him, I'm sure N.Ireland would be happy to take him back into the coaching set-up.
  3. Great post. As a fellow exile (live near Worcester these days) who doesn't get to as many games as he should*, this board is brilliant and the humour often top quality. *I was at Oxford though to see our last League goal!
  4. Yes and as (I think) Harry pointed out, if SC had given Shez more money over the summer maybe a promotion bid and gates of 5,000+ eventually would have given some return on that investment.
  5. Superb post, Chorlton Latic ! In similarly delusional vein, I hope if he is coming back that he and Corney can agree to work together for 2-3 seasons at least. I think we are probably down this season, which makes a long(ish) term plan even more important. If we could be given hope of stability and an ambition to build for an eventual promotion bid to the Championship, goodwill and fans would start to return. A pipe dream, I know.
  6. Perhaps Shez could cough up his Notts Co. pay-off towards the playing budget!
  7. Has this been officially announced yet (not by the club, obviously!) or is it still fevered speculation?
  8. That is such a good point. I know it's easy to say but you have to speculate if you own/run a football club. Nobody wanted the recklessness of the Moores years, but if only money had been given to Sheridan at the end of last season to strengthen the squad, where might we be now?
  9. I can't agree Dan. If you want Corney to take this meeting seriously it helps to appear professional and factually accurate. In my experience misspelling a guy's name is often a sure way to irritate him and there is no point in doing that.
  10. I make our average home league gate this season after yesterday 3,554. At the same stage last season having played 1 more home game it was 4,323 so a drop of nearly 18%. Very worrying. Sitting in the North Stand yesterday the noise from the away fans in the Chaddy End sounded louder than other parts of the ground, which is depressing. Must give a plug for the restaurant in OEC though - Xmas present from my wife who bought the lunch and match tickets package (and is still thawing out). The 3 course meal was absolutely superb as was the service. Expensive I know but really top quality.
  11. I hope you're right BP. It was a great effort today, the players fought for everything and but for their keeper and some terrible luck we would have won today. But we still look lacking in confidence and if we're brutally honest there are no natural finishers in the squad. Sadly we need a miracle to stay up.
  12. Any news yet on whether the game is on today? My wife bought us 2 tickets plus lunch in the OEC beforehand - I must have upset her! (though lunch at least should be good). Coming up from Worcs so just wondered if there's a risk of postponement.
  13. I thought he only scored the 2 v Rochdale in ten appearances but I could be wrong.
  14. Brilliant. It's this kind of bleak humour that keeps me going (not much else about Latics does!)>
  15. St Bede's, that takes me back. I played school football for Bury GS and we had a decent team but always used to get stuffed by them!
  16. I like to give managers time, but this is farcical. Notts County have lost again today, so if the rumours are true and Sheridan gets the sack, time for another Corney-Sheridan Tesco shopping trip.
  17. NNN, I was also at that WBA game. I remember being in the Chaddy End and at some point, can't remember when, maybe H/T, a line of WBA fans started running across the pitch towards us. I didn't think too much of it at first, then they got nearer and lots of people around me headed for the exits, so I temporarily joined them! These are bleak days, but my Xmas present from my wife yesterday is 2 tickets v Port Vale next Monday with the exec hospitality in the North Stand included. In her case as a Masterchef fan she is going for Simon Wood's cooking, but I'll be there hoping for goals and three points, hope over experience etc. I did point out we might be the only couple in the restaurant the way things are going.........
  18. League games: Man Utd 28 Dec 1974 26,356 Bolton 26 Dec 1975 25,137 WBA 24 Apr 1976 22,356 Bolton 18 Feb 1978 20,810 Man City 20 Apr 1984 20,320 FA Cup: Burnley 26 Jan 1974 22,350 The last 20k+ home gates I think.
  19. With respect, Opinions, I did not pay £21,give up my Saturday afternoon, and get soaked in the rain to watch my team defecate at Oxford.
  20. We were utterly dreadful. I don't like changing managers too often, but for him to say that makes me wonder if he has lost touch with reality.
  21. Apologies Monty and Fruitygoo, quite right, we played Stoke in April 2001. I stand corrected!
  22. You are wrong about Norwich, I remember being at Carrow Road to see us well beaten, they went from L1 to"Premier" League in successive seasons, like Southampton. I don't remember Stoke being in League 1 so I think that's wrong.
  23. As bad as the Sky "highlights" were, they weren't as bad as having to watch the advert of Skunkamore bigging up the so-called "Premier" League.
  24. I went today and maybe the worst thing about the game was that Oxford were utter garbage, yet we were still hanging on for a point at the end - tells you all you need to know about this Oldham team. I've been watching us since my first game in 1965 aged 7 (QPR at home, won 5-3) and this is comfortably the worst Latics team I've seen, by a country mile. Barring a miracle in the transfer window and/or a change of manager we are relegation certainties. Otherwise, the referee was a disgrace (I thought raising your hands to an opponent not to mention shoving him to the ground was a red card?); Fane should have been subbed after his first yellow (he contributed little, and was a red card waiting to happen from that point on); the midfield is hopelessly weak/ineffective; Erwin is on a par with Ladapo in terms of lack of ability. Our time wasting was also extremely blatant and embarrassing.
  25. I wasn't sure whether to turn up (live near Cheltenham so Oxford just down the A40) but the news that Ladapo is injured is a clincher - I'll be there and I'm taking my neighbour with me as an honorary Latics fan for the day. We can surely grind out a tedious 1-0 away win - and we need to.
