  1. Yes I remember reading that Armando Ianucci and/or the writers wanted a city that was some way from London and felt isolated. My brother lives in Norwich - it's a fine city but definitely a slog for me to get to, even after they improved the A14 a few years ago.
  2. Not really! Opinions on Latics are generally way stronger and more heartfelt than being a fan of Steve Coogan or another artist I'd say. It can be depressing when as fans we verbally beat each other up on here, but I guess it would be a boring world if everybody felt the same way. Come to think of it though, I never did rate Tommy Booth.......
  3. Pride in a local boy made good etc. He's had a stellar career and good luck to him.
  4. And Liverpool....and Everton.... OK unlikely to be many Scousers if we get to Wembley but I still think we'll get a decent turnout including day trippers.
  5. Yes, as he's from my neck of the woods I should be a big fan but Alan Partridge never did it for me I'm afraid. However when he does the serious stuff he is a superb actor - Stan and Ollie, and The Reckoning, to name but two. He was amazingly good as Stan Laurel, and to take on the role that he did in The Reckoning was courageous to say the least.
  6. Haven’t we just. I think at the moment @GKing521’s reign as undisputed Negative “Fan” of the World is under serious threat from @AndyB2.
  7. I suspect Norwood means don’t consider him for MOTM again, rather than selection!
  8. Yep, it’s frustrating that we haven’t been beaten in the two league games against the runaway leaders and champions-elect, and could actually have won both of them. Got to reproduce that level of effort and skill over the last seven games now.
  9. Putting @GKing521's surprising pessimism () to one side, of the 7 games left only two (Altrincham and Rochdale, both derbies ) SHOULD be potential banana skins on paper. Unfortunately, we ain't playing on paper.
  10. Nothing serious hopefully, all the best. Let's hope you hear the roars as we stuff Chesterfield !
  11. Amongst the most asinine posts I have ever read on here, which is saying something.
  12. So much for unity among fans. ”Their guy” is actually our guy. He’s our manager. Try getting behind him.
  13. I think we all need to calm down, there's too much infighting and insult-throwing going on. I've done it myself and if you stop and think for a mo, it's pretty daft and pointless. Let's concentrate on the football (I know, I know, sorry!) and remember that we all want the same thing, to see the club we all love on an upward curve. It may happen this season, it may have to be next, or later, but as the great Bryan Ferry said, let's stick together.
  14. To be fair it's not just @BP1960 complaining about the playing style. But, as @League one forever has repeatedly pointed out, the playing style can and will be tolerated as long as it's successful. When we lose or draw, naturally the complaints and number of unhappy punters shoot up. I can put up with hoofball as it's being called if it gets us back to League 2 - though I wouldn't want it to continue once we are a proper league club again. For what it's worth, I think we probably will just miss the play-offs and, if we do get there, I don't think this squad has the mentality to get through them. But the big picture is surely that we are making progress after decades of going backwards. MM fully deserves a pre-season to reshape the squad free from the pressure of one/two games a week and then we go again next season. Calls to sack him are crazy in my view.
  15. And there’s nothing wrong with giving a view on a game that you’ve watched on TV as opposed to being in the ground. In fact I’d say you deserve praise for not reaching for the off switch. My question to @rudemedic re school was meant to be tongue in cheek so I apologise to him and to you if it came over as a bit stroppy.
  16. I’ve had a pop at @BP1960 myself in the past, but your comment there is puerile. I’m guessing, but it’s possible he streamed both games isn’t it? Did you carefully scrutinise all 400+ of our fans to be able to question whether he was at Aldershot? Were you one of those who ratted on kids playing truant at school by any chance?
  17. You/BBC Surrey highlighted something there that's been bugging me for a while. I think the two players mentioned were Hogan (1 goal all season) and Garner. I know the main responsibility lies with the strikers, but our defenders have contributed that 1 league goal all season and the midfield have come up with about 13 I think, but 11 of those are from Sheron (6) and Dickenson (5, now out on loan). I don't know if that's down to tactics, playing style or ability (lack of) but it's a poor return and surely more players should be contributing.
  18. That is genuinely quite funny, I’ll give you that one
  19. Nooooo, you're getting deeper into @deyres42 territory!! Don't go there! Come back!
  20. Well, all except @deyres42maybe. Though on second thoughts he'll probably tell us he always knew we'd go up.
  21. You say "fucking Bromley" as if we are still a league team and should thrash them, but we're not - like it or not we're non league just like them. They finished 7th last season and got to the play-off semi-finals, only losing 3-2 in extra time to Chesterfield. This season they've been top 3 for quite a while. Maybe the performance was disappointing last night, but a 0-0 against a promotion contender isn't the end of the world.
  22. No, preposterous observation. Your earlier post indicates that we are going nowhere. MM out. He's had "plenty of time" to sort this, we should be on our 3rd or 4th manager of the season by now.
  23. 10th in the table on New Year's Eve, 5th in the table now. Keep digging.
