  1. Good post. My God there are some Jonahs on here. It’s like a Private Fraser fan club - we’re DOOOOOOOMED! Except we’re not. We just won 4 in a row and now today we screwed up. Somebody the other day posted that we are on the up, but will still hit the occasional banana skin, and today was one of those. We will finish in a play off spot and I am confident that MM will continue to improve this team. People need to remember that new players are still bedding in and getting used to each other. Everybody calm down, as the excellent dentist said in Django Unchained.
  2. I thought your avatar was Lee Harvey Oswald!!
  3. It’s definitely a weird feeling, you’re right. Let’s hope it’s onwards and upwards !
  4. It’s so good to wake up the morning after and recollect a really good performance and result from the night before - then to come on here and read all the positive messages. There’s a long way to go and I know nothing is settled yet for the season but it really does feel like we are on the way back at last. Hope last night’s result makes Frank’s finishing line feel a bit nearer!
  5. Agreed, re Madine. 93 goals in 444 league games according to Wikipedia, so hardly prolific. Convicted twice for assault, and jailed the second time. All in all I'm struggling to get excited about him.
  6. I agree with just about every word of this but..... I also agree with this. The amount of advertising for betting sites particularly on Sky Sports and TalkSport really annoys me. I'm lucky - I follow a tipster who names 12 horses to follow every NH and Flat season, and I never bet more than £2.50 E/W whenever one of the 12 races. It's just a bit of fun. When I go racing, I always enjoy the day out and I set myself a budget of a £5 stake per race. If I lose the whole lot (as usually happens!) then that's part of the cost of a fun day out. But some people can't/don't treat it as a bit of fun, get addicted, and the pressure from Sky and TalkSport and the betting companies to have a bet on this, that and the other is out of order. Personally I would ban media advertising of gambling.
  7. Not really. They have 51 points to play for, we have 57. IF we win our 2 games in hand we’ll be 9 points behind them. All to play for.
  8. Not sure about Spreadsheet Phil as Chancellor of the Exchequer though
  9. So sad to hear this. I remember him so well, back in the days when I didn’t miss many home games. I was so excited when he decided to join us, as @oafc1955says, it was a time when top flight players were happy to finish their careers at a lower level. He was a very good player, a real professional.
  10. Yes, he's called James Norwood. In any case as @Frankly Mr Shankly says, it was really poor defending by Altrincham.
  11. Or “why the hell do we want promotion”. I’m paraphrasing I know, but I’m sure that’s the gist of what Mr Owen said
  12. I meant to say season before last, but well done for paying attention. However it’s time this “2H of last season” fairy tale was put to bed. You don’t get promoted based on half a season of results. Unsworth’s team produced some utterly tedious performances during that golden run, and then deteriorated at the start of this season. MM has inherited a bloated squad with a number of players who aren’t up to the job, we can agree on that. I’m confident he will sort it out, Unsworth would not have done.
  13. Excellent post, difficult to argue with any of that.
  14. No but, to be fair, we weren’t knocked out by teams two tiers lower with home gates of 200.
  15. It might only be 13 Jan, but that could just be the funniest comment of the year! Thank you - I needed cheering up after that bloody result
  16. Perspective, BP. We are 6th in the league and have a great owner. Last season we were bottom half and had the owners from hell.
  17. I’ve finally forced myself to watch that. What Norman thought he was doing with that header, I can’t begin to guess. It was so soft he should surely have caught it. If not, instead of parrying it forward why couldn’t he at least knock it sideways or even up in the air/over the bar. Rank incompetence. I know keepers get the rap because their mistakes are often fatal, but that one is indefensible.
  18. You’re very free with other people’s money, BP! It’s a massively disappointing defeat, no question, a huge embarrassment. At least now we can concentrate on the league. One of my mates is a lifelong Wolves fan and their absolute nadir was losing to Chorley in the FA Cup. I think Wolves were in the fourth tier maybe at the time and possibly still being mis-managed by the Bhatti brothers. Eventually they started on the road to recovery. It will take Frank & co more than half a season to undo the damage done by our Chuckle brothers. Keep the faith.
  19. Maybe Jagger has left the Stones and joined the Bunnymen?
  20. There was a report on the BBC website yesterday that 3 girls taking part in the race had their boat rammed by a marlin. They plugged the hole in the boat with an empty champagne bottle, which I thought was pretty cool! Just shows the hazards that Frank and all the other competitors might have to deal with, quite apart from the physical challenge.
  21. Whoever he is, he seems to have a distorted view of reality, at least when it comes to discussing Latics.
  22. Team: Man City? And you want a fee? Is that to pay your FFP fines (some hope)?
