razza699
Just come back from Dublin this weekend and I didnt realise how many Irish fans know Oldham Athletic because of John Sheridan, Spoke to a fair few Irish guys who knew about and follow us because of Shez, Also all of them said " you not sold that ex con yet" Was proud to be walking round Dublin in my Oldham shirt on sat:D and also met Chris Kamara in Man airport what a really nice guy:D
Nohairdontcare
Well there is certainly at least one lifelong Irish Oldham fan in Dublin - I'm one... My grandfather was from Oldham so I inherited supporting Latics via my father. I'm glad you had a good time over here - and any time I'm over in Oldham it has always been great fun talking to other 'tics in the bars and all that. A lot of my friends always keep a close eye on the Oldham result because there are connections between Ireland and Oldham that go back to Denis Irwin - and people haven't forgotten our classic cup runs... Funnily enough, I often wear my Oldham jersey out to the pubs here and am often asked by people if I'm from Oldham, they're often surprised to hear my Irish accent when I answer... Sheridan is a hero here because he was such a classy player for Ireland - even when Jack Charlton just wanted the team to kick and run... I remember Oldham played a friendly against Cobh Ramblers in Cork years ago that I went to with my dad, but there hasn't been a Latics friendly in Ireland since... perhaps it's time for another one? leeslover
Last I was in Dublin (inventively, on a stag do) we got talking to some locals a little way outside the city centre. I mentioned Shez and they all immediately said, "He was f-ing :censored:e!"
Diego_Sideburns
We have Shamrock Rovers supporters in Dublin who follow Latics and a couple came over for Shez's testimonial.

A very good shout ! If Israel is off and Shez doesnt fancy a friendly in Germany, surely Ireland is the next best option ?

The Irish League plays its games between March and November so our pre-season is not convenient for Irish clubs to take on additional fixtures, unless its Celtic or some other money-spinning opposition. Diego_Sideburns
Why? Because I can't stand listening to Taggart.
Matt
Because I can't stand listening to Taggart. Is it what he has to say, or his Scottish lilt, or something else?
Diego_Sideburns
Is it what he has to say, or his Scottish lilt, or something else? It's what he has to say - saying he couldn't raise a team to play our Reserves in the Manc Senior Cup Final, blaming everything and everyone else for his very rare setbacks, and not being magnanimous in defeat. I've gone through it all before on here and all the Reds are sick of reading it.
Matt
The Manc. Senior Cup? I know about that situation and whatever his reasons for the issue were, he could hardly put the competition at the top of his agenda. There is a huge gulf in football and it's not his fault, that's the way it is; he has his objectives and we have ours. He's not arsed about us and why should he be? I'm not looking for an answer before anybody tries! If there is a position furthest away from being a Red, I stand there. However, like him or not he has done a fine job for his club over the years...

His record speaks for itself and he has the best team in the current Greedy League. So why does he need to be so obnoxious at times? You say " he could hardly put the [Manc Senior Cup] competition at the top of his agenda." That sounds OK, but the fact was that Latics had incurred expenses for the game, and he phoned Ritchie to say he couldn't rise a team, so the game had to be cancelled at short notice. If a pub team did that, they'd have to forfeit the game, but the Manc FA was not going to fall out with Taggat, was it? A gesture to recompense Latics for their losses would have been the minimum to expect. He might not be arsed about ,but he doesn't need to go out of his way to stuff us. Fergie
I'm based in Northern Ireland and supported Oldham for over 25 years, I know another 5 Oldham fans based in Norn Ireland. Nothing gives me more pleasure in wearing my Oldham top over here, especially this years away yellow shirt. As it graps the attention of alot of people. I have the car covered in Oldham stuff so Oldham Athletic is well publicised over here. Back in the Ian Dowie days the team visited Northern Ireland and played 2 games against Ballymena and Lisburn Distillery.

A lot of managers are obnoxious, personally I think if a manager hasn't got a streak of disagreeable nature in him others will walk all over them. He did what he did, fair enough - you say the Manc FA wasn't going to cross him - that's hardly Ferguson's fault, if the footballing bodies are scared of him then he's managed to complete another objective, namely respect. One cannot pick and choose who has it and who doesn't, one will know those who are good enough to command it - and he's one of them, like it or not. Nohairdontcare
One of my mates in Cork looks like Lee Hughes - aka he's bald as a cue ball - and he has been on at me for a while to bring him over to a Latics game... I've two other mates who've been over with me before too, so I can probably round them up before the end of the season. So that's four of us - not exactly a plane load but hey, it's a start!
