Lightweight and offers absolutely nothing...... Quote
ste1987 Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Would personally rather have him over Lewi and O Grady as a back up Quote
Break The Silence Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 He played about 20 mins... ..........ineffectively........ Quote
MikeF Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 awaits the Byfiled signs on the OS. God I hope not Quote
Zorrro Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Would personally rather have him O Grady as a back up I'm fairly indifferent towards Byfield, but I honestly believe O'Grady will prove himself to be a very useful back up this season. Quote
Fryatt's Bald Head Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Wouldn't be offering Byfield a contract and would be letting O'Grady go on loan - not good enough as back ups. Similarlarly, though Lomax was found wanting and Blackpool soon found out where the weak link was in order to get their crosses in for our centre backs NOT to deal with! Quote
RobOAFC Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 He plays hardly any football all last season was no where near match fit still attemptin to get match fit plays 20 minz against blackpool what did you expect? a hat-trick? a MOM performance from him? GET REAL. Who would you realistically want as a back up to parker and abbott? Byfield - a PROVEN striker in this division Alessandra - Got potential, not developing his game, lacking strength and appears scared to shoot O'Grady - not proven in this league, struggled when with stockport, appears frightened to shoot. Are you honestly telling me you would reject a proven goal scorer in league one for either one of them as back-up? Quote
OminousPoultry Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Are you honestly telling me you would reject a proven goal scorer in league one for either one of them as back-up? we rejected Hughes. I'd rather we had someone on their way up and not someone on the way down. Quote
garcon Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 From what I read of DP's comments, I honestly don't believe there is any intention to sign Byfield. He said (I'm paraphrasing because I can't be bothered finding the actual quote) that we were never going to sign Haining, we had simply agreed to his request to train with us during pre-season, and Byfield is with us for exactly the same reason. i.e. as a former player, we're doing him a favour by letting him train with us and giving him some pre-season game time, but there's no intention to actually sign him. Of course, if he's in the side on Saturday you can tell me I was talking bollocks. Quote
garcon Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 By the way, (wrong thread...) I had assumed we were "never likely" to sign Haining because he's too good/expensive for us. However, given he doesn't appear to have anything sorted yet, I'm not so sure that's the case. Quote
flytrap Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Byfield looks good on paper but he hasn't grasped his chance to get a contract. Next! Quote

Bristolatic Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Byfield over O'Grady for me. He's done it at this level, so a short term contract to see if he can prove himself. If he doesn't, cheerio. O'Grady has never looked like being the real deal and Alice isn't the answer. Quote
erniecooksey4 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 This only proves that all three are Maybe so, but dave penney is looking for a striker and out of them three byfield is the proven one. can you or anyone else who dislikes byfield name another striker, who we can get on a free and who we can actually afford, who has a better goalscoring record than byfield? Pawel Abbott? Keigan Parker? Oh wait, we've got two already... Love them or loathe them we've COG, Brooke, Smalley and Taylor if needs be as back up for a striking spot. Aside from Gregan and Hazell who's in reserve at CB? And more worrying, who's competing against that duck egg in nets? I think that's why this whole Byfield situation is getting folks backs up. A reserve striker seems to be a priority ahead of the real problem areas of the team. We're only as good as our weakest link. E4e SIEVE Quote
