Stevie_J
I'm sure that even if convicted she wouldn't resign. This lot never do. I don't know that she necessarily should. How many people on here could honestly say they've never used a mobile whilst driving? I'd prefer to see the thieves who, in most cases unremorselessly, abused their rights to expenses to take money from the tax payer.
rudemedic
I've used a mobile whilst driving but I've never had an accident as a result of doing so. That's the key sticking point. If she had been nicked for using a mobile phone whilst driving that would be a £60 fine and 3 points but she had an accident as a result supposedly and that puts it into a different category. But bearing in mind she's a QC it wouldn't surprise me if she got off even if she did do it. As for looking for those people who fiddled their expenses then yes I would like those to go down too, but Ms Harman allegedly caused an accident due to being on her mobile phone, that's not a crime that can be swept underneath the rug. Especially considering it was her dispicable mob which introduced the law in the first place. Just another example of MP's giving the rest of us the two fingers up and saying 'do as we say not as we do'. She should face the same as anybody would who commits the same offence. Its one of the few Liebour laws, of which there have been hundreds but then what do you expect from Socialist/communist nutcases like them, that is actually a good law for the benefit of all those who use the road. In other words i think im trying to say......throw the book at the bitter woman!
OldhamSheridan
Hang her!!! (please). In reality it's just a minor traffic crime isn't it? And therefore doesn't stop her from standing again, unlike purging oneself for instance... Go on you daft bint, say your husband/wife was driving. I don't doubt she'll employ somebody like Freeman and get off anyway. This vile woman preaches to us about equality but we'll soon see (again) that it's one law for them and one law for the rest of us. I really do believe that any politician who is convicted of breaking the law should resign. It's a basic standard long since lost in our deteriorating society though. Somebody needs to bring it back. Minor offence? Driving without due care and attention is harmless. Until you plough in to a group of kids I suppose. Drink driving is harmless. As long as you don't take out a queue of old ladies at a bus stop. Driving while using a mobile? Has the silly cow never heard of a hands free kit? Looks like they've let her off the charge of Failing To Stop At The Scene of an Accident. Reports had said she left the scene saying "you know who I am and you know where to find me". Arrogant or what?

Talking on a mobile whilst driving shouldn't be illegal anyway, at least not whilst it's ok to smoke, operate the radio and talk to people in the back, your Honour. Talking on a mobile whilst driving shouldn't be illegal anyway, at least not whilst it's ok to smoke, operate the radio and talk to people in the back, your Honour. Why not just buy a hands-free kit? Piece of piss. I reckon it's totally dangerous to use a mobile phone while driving. The problem isn't holding a phone to your ear while you talk about football, but the bit where you have to go to phonebook, find who you want to phone and press dial and so on. I've even seen people sending texts while in the driving seat (in the outside lane on the motorway), which really ought to be a flogging offence or worse. Oh yeah. This is for all you :censored:-NAV people: There's a great new product on the market. In fact it's a series of products. They're called MAPS. What you do is, keep a map or several maps in your car. If you're going somewhere you're not familiar with, use the map or maps to plan your journey. Memorise the names or numbers of the roads you intend to take and the directions in which you intend to go at junctions and roundabouts. Put it in first and go. If you get lost, simply pull over and use the map to locate where you are and go through the planning process once again. This is a simple activity do-able by even most clatteringly stupid motorist. :censored:-NAV allows people completely to ignore the road while propelling at great speed a heavy lump of metal and engine along it. Too many drive the screen rather than the road in front of them. I feel better now.
Stitch_KTF
When you use a hands-free kit, don't you still have to operate the phone in a normal manner to choose who you're ringing? I'm with you on the sat nav as I too prefer maps. I tend to read them whilst I drive.
jsslatic
I'm not a fan of Sat Nav, I had one and got rid of it pretty sharpish. I've got a UK atlas in my car but don't really use it...whenever I need to go somewhere I don't know I just go on the AA and write out the directions...takes 2 minutes and I've never got lost. I used to text sometimes when driving but since seeing that advert of the Welsh girl texting and driving I haven't (unless stopped at a traffic light). Genuinely haunting stuff. Operating the radio is fine provided you aren't doing anything too complicated- even a not so good car like my corsa has some radio controls on the steering wheel. Didn't Robertson (our ex centre forward) get done for fiddling with his I-pod whilst driving causing him to kill someone. Talking to the back seat- if you banned that then no parent could ever travel on their own with kids in the car. Smoking however should have been banned at the same time as talking on a mobile- its a disgrace that it is still legal when using your mobile isn't as it is far more dangerous IMHO. If you want to phone "Derek", you say, "Derek" and Derek is called. I tend to put the map I'm using up on the windscreen. It makes a great sun shield, too. If it's sunny. It's about taking your eyes off the road as much as anything. Dialing up, texting, Sat Nav and radio's all momentarily take your eyes off the road. What can happen in half a second? Generally nothing, but it's a hell of a thing to have on your conscience if it does. As for lighting up. A smoker that can't do that in the car without taking their eyes off the road hasn't been smoking very long. It's a piece of piss.

OldhamSheridan
Lord Ahmed anyone ? http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/feb/25/l...ngerous-driving hmm, I'd love to know the percentage of people that have done the first bit of that. I have, and I hardly use my mobile (c£10 a year). I have no problem with that sentence. It really could have been me or you (if you've EVER done that before). Still think the guy who crashed wanking down the M62 should have got a stiffer sentence.

Depends, was he using porn on his mobile or did he have old-school magazines up on the windscreen?
