Mossley FC V Latics

Recommended Posts

Should be a good one to go to. Nice little terrace and the chance of a goal fest.

Especially if Mossley play their strike force of;

17yo current England under 18 international Fabio Abreu,

22yo Scott Barlow (99 goals in 171 appearances),

and the centre forward who once gave Gerard Pique and Gabriel Heinze a hard time - a certain Chris Hall,

Proper England, they dont have a team at that age group for england c.

Here is the squad, like Matt Smith many are at college, quite a few locals worth checking out by Latics scouts I would have thought.

I think Mike Milligan was a product of the Greater Manchester County F.A team and he didn't turn out to be too bad.

I'd be amazed BP if he isnt on the radar?

I think we should take a gamble & sign him regardless of ability; just because he has a cracking name!!!

Just spotted this whilst having a lickle look through Mossley’s website:

The versatile Chalmers, who made 41 appearances for Mossley last season in a variety of defensive and midfield positions, was an outstanding performer for the Lilywhites before the former Oldham Athletic and Hibernian player moved to Droylsden on loan in March following off the field issues.

So; just shows that leopards don’t change their spots eh? If he actually cut the off-field stuff out; he’s actually stand a decent chance of making it in the professional game IMO. But not with his ‘tude he doesn’t.

It was nothing to do with what chalmers did wrong why he went to droylsden. He wasnt getting a game so he went to the manager who said he can go to droylsden, then a few weeks later the manager got sacked.

Fair enough - I'm only posting what I saw on Mossley's website - but he made 41 appearances; so he was getting a game though surely???

Yeah he was playing week in week out until shaun (ex manager) dropped him for a new lad. aaron didnt like it so he asked what was going on. then as they say the rest is history.

You are right though slystallone they dont change. his attidude is why droylsden didnt sign him. Like what duxberry said at the presentation do when i asked about Crompton and he simply said "the problem is he could find a club easily but he will still be crompton and he wont change. he wont get anywhere with his attidude" which is proving right for a few players.

I assume from the Matt Smith signing Latics scouts are now very active in this area, but you would be amazed at how little some scouts at other Premiership and football league clubs know of the local non league and amateur youth scene.

richie jones in the united reserves for that one. playing with heinze, guiseppe rossi, darron gibson and pique.

Despite the close scoreline several of the United team went on to play in the Champions League, several of the Latics team went on to play in non league - where did it all go wrong at BP ? :(

  • 3 weeks later...

It was a toss-up between going to Mossley and going to Dublin for the European Champions League 2nd Qualifying Round Shamrock Rovers v FC Flora Tallinn. After thinking about it for all of two seconds :mmm:, we're off to Dublin and to Tallinn for the second leg craic :drinking45:, regardless of the score in the first leg.

Mossley have just signed former latics player Mark Innes.

His energetic displays in midfield were one of the main reasons in igniting a late season surge that saw us nick safety on the final day of 98/99. Sad that he lost his way, didn't help that Ritchie tried to convert him into a left-back….
