Rochdale Fans

Recommended Posts

4k home fans is more than we got for a lot of home games last year. Were you thinking an extra 2k Latics fans were going to turn up just because Rochdale (not Barcelona) were coming to town?

I think the novelty probably wore off after last seasons games - as has been discussed elsewhere a lot of people (me included) realised that the two teams just don't really care about each other that much at the moment.

I certainly was. How wrong I was.

What is worrying is that I did see quite a few lads on Saturday who I know only attend the 'bigger' games....so god knows how many we can expect against somebody like Colchester midweek this season.

I don't know how anyone can be shocked by the attendances at Boundary Park anymore.

Does it really matter how many people turn up, anyway? The club knows it can never rely on large numbers coming through the turnstiles and have adapted the budget accordingly.

Of course it does.

Of course it does.

In his interview on GMR yesterday, Corney said he could half the price of the pay-on-the-day ticket in the hope of getting double the crowd, but as he rightly said, people won't turn up so there's no benefit to the club in dropping the prices. We have to make do with the numbers we get at the moment and I'm sure he's fully aware that numbers will drop even further when we play the likes of Colchester and Yeovil.

There are a lot of people who can't afford to come, which is a shame. There is also, however, a lot of people that simply can't be @rsed to turn up and there's probably not a lot we can do to get them in, so why worry?

We might get an extra thousand on top of the 3.5k die-hards now and again and maybe a full house if we get a good cup draw, but not a consistantly higher gate.

In an ideal world, Boundary Park would be full every week with paying punters allowing the club a budget to build a better squad and infrastructure.

Not going to happen though - not in the short-term anyway so therefore, in my opinion, it's not worth worrying about.

Some people might find it in embarrassing that we only get 5k turn up to a local derby and Sheff United sing "Your support is F-ing sh*t" at us, but there's nothing we can do about it short-term - we're just not in a place where we can attract the support at the moment.

It's more important that we build this stand with the facilities and make money that way. Who knows, once that's built fans might even start retuning on a more permanent basis.

Dale at Bury

Just for interest, the figure for Dale at Gigg Lane.

Not much difference to Boundary Park.

The WUM in me would go on there and point out we take almost 100% of our home gate (going off Saturday) to Dale, which would be a similar enough comparison. We regularly take more than they did to Bury (well we have in the past) and I wouldn't give evens for us to take more than them to Bury again this year.

However, in fairness, there will be a percentage of football fans who can't afford 2 away trips in such close proximity, especially at this time of year.
