iamjonesyyoafc
Spotted on twitter earlier that the official account of Saddleworth County Cricket Club had tweeted Latics, LJ and Jenny regarding a possible charity cricket game. Not sure if anything will come of it but wouldn't that be good! For anyone interested here's the tweet; "@SaddleworthCC: @officialoafc @ldjhepingping @jenny_warburton do your boys fancy playing in a game of cricket for charity, some time in the Summer?" BP1960
Not County but didnt Andy Goram play for Scotland? From what my faded memory tells me pre season friendlies against a local cricket team used to be a regular occourance Yes, forgot about him. From Wikipedia; Also a cricketer, Goram represented the Scottish cricket team four times: twice (1989 and 1991) in the annual first-class game against Ireland and twice (again in 1989 and 1991) in the NatWest Trophy. A left-handed batsman and right-arm medium-pace bowler, he never achieved any great success, his most significant act was probably to bowl England Test player Richard Blakey in aNatWest Trophy game against Yorkshire in 1989. He was also a league cricketer, appearing as a wicket-keeper and batsman for various Oldham clubs in the Saddleworth League including Delph & Dobcross, Moorside and also East Lancashire Paper Mill in Radcliffe, Bury. Goram played for Penicuik Cricket Club, Kelso Cricket Club, West Lothian County and Uddingston CC in Scottish cricket leagues. Goram made a cricketing comeback after ending his football career,[24] finally playing for Freuchie Cricket Club in their centenary week matches versus Cricket Scotland President's XI, Falkland Cricket Club and Sussex Ladies. Perhaps he might turn out if asked ?

BP1960
Eric Gemmell was a good cricketer. Professional at Levenshulme. Well before my time (believe it or not). Walter Cornock; Cornock joined Oldham Athletic, playing six times during the 1945–46 season. A right-handed batsman and a left-armed medium pace bowler. In 1941 he set a league record score of 197 not out while playing for Royton Cricket Club against Ashton in the Central Lancashire Cricket League.[2] He spent the 1948 season with Leicestershirescoring over 800 runs and taking 81 wickets.[1] Notable wickets included those of another footballing cricketer, Denis Compton,[1] futureEngland international Tom Graveney[1] and contemporary England players John Dewes[1] and Joe Hardstaff.[1] Bill Lawton; Clubs played for: Oldham Athletic, Chester City (1946-1949) Also played cricket for Lancashire married actress, Dora Bryan and they ran a hotel in Brighton before it went bankrupt, continued to live in the town until his death from Alzheimer's in August 2008 aged 88. One I did see play (he was a good un too) Colin Whitaker; (born 14 July 1932 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England), is an English footballer who played as a left winger in the Football League. He also played cricket for Shropshire in the 1958 Minor Counties Championship. Worth a mention; Paul Edwards was one of several fine footballers raised in Lancashire mill town Shaw. an earlier United recruit Ian Greaves, took a similar route to OT and, by coincidence, both were outstanding cricketers and considered County material whilst still in their teens. Macca
What about that guy who cost us the First Division title by getting sent off?! He played cricket on the day we lost the title. It's all his fault!
