If you have green water its certainly a algae issue, the only way to get rid of it is to implement a UV light into your filter box. I would also pop along to a garden centre who sell fish and pond supplies. Pick up some green away (Blagdon is a good make) the green away clumps the algae together and makes them big enough to get trapped in your filter box.
