ghostofcecere
Ian Marshall CB to striker, and then back again...... ultimately it was Joe thinking he was a CB and Marshy thinking he was a striker that caused him to leave BP and go to Ipswich where he was offered the position up front permanently

the_mighty_bosh
Taylor would be an excellent signing for us, one of the best free transfers about this summer for our level. ^^This Was Mr Consistent for Exeter when they won back to back promotions from the Conference to League One and his partnership with Michael Morrison was what Charlton built their title-winning season on a year or 2 ago. He isn't the quickest but is big, comfortable in possession and a presence at both ends from set pieces. Captain material and a Northern lad. A realistic target as well as being a very good one. the_mighty_bosh
Re: Position changes, Chris Taylor went from striker to right winger to left winger to left back and finally after going back to a few of those he then played in the hole and in central midfield. Mr versatile.

RoytonLatics
I seem to remember John hallworth coming off the bench to be played up front for a game in the mid 90's. Edit, don't think it was too successful though! Edited June 11, 2013 by RoytonLatics
cplatics
John Bowden switched to centre midfield from centre forward in 82/83.

LaticsPete
Didn't Bob Ledger (who was a full back by trade) once score an hat trick when playing centre forward ? Quite so. Against Scunthorpe in 67/8. Difficult to know what his trade really was as is first season with us 62/3 he played as outside right - all 46 league matches as No. 7. Switched to full back by Les McDowell but was the classic "utility player".

Bob was great at full back when he could fire his up and unders from 70 yards away, the ball would come down in the opposition penalty area with snow on it causing panic to the goalkeeper and his defenders. I'm sure it was a ploy. Its a something you never see nowadays as its probably not in the EUFA coaching manual. Dave_Og
Yeah, at Palace! Got a 2-2 from being 2-0 down, I think. Michel Vonk scored... Hallworth missed a sitter to win the game. We will never, ever win at Selhurst Park
BP1960
You need to re-post that in the 1982-1994 thread Dave to remind everyone of the lack of versatility in the squad back then.
sbs1trg
Pretty sure the only position Chris Taylor didn't play was CB - defo remember stints at RB and in net too.

stargazer
Marshy was thrown up front because teams were so scared to death at BP that the back 4 were almost redundant , great centre half , magnificent centre forward. Irwin played on the wrong side for a decade at OT , and he was that good half their fans never knew. Redfearn was struggling big time on the flank at our place until taking Milligan's place the year after , still the best central midfielder we have ever had imo. Keeley playing up front against Leeds was comedy gold , we watched the goals from Sportsnight over and over again. McDonagh switched from centre back to centre forward I seem to recall. Barrett switched to centre half when Marshy & Andy Holden were injured. Young Donachie finished in central midfield after centuries as a full back. Warhurst became an England class centre foward after being an England class centre half .......the less said the better about the ludicrous attempt to make him a full back. A little off topic, but how us it that so few players got recognised internationally durring the pinch me years?
