singe
Personally, I dislike FCUM . They went crawling to United when it suited, agaist the spirit of why they were set up. But their raising £2m in community shares from 5,000 is very impressive. I doubt we could raise it, but wouldnl;t it be great if could have a thriving community, all focussed on the same target, all focussed on raising that kind of money. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-31653461 Edited February 27, 2015 by singe

singe
When did they go crawling to United ? A couple of years in. They even had a United Day so to appeal to United fans to watch both teams.
leeslover
I'm going to have a guess that a smallish number of people made up a big chunk of that. I don't reckon they got 5000 to stump up £400.

I believe one person put in £500k. Whatever, to be in a position to build a whole new stadium is impressive. Dont have a problem with them myself. I don't reckon they got 5000 to stump up £400. It is a completely different project to OAFC Ltd-we have an existing business model that loses money every month so count me out thank you! New stand or no new stand that will not change in my opinion
singe
To be fair, they clearly state no one put in more than £500. I guess the appeal is having an actual stake and influence.
Chaddy_Ender
My cousin put in £200 and he is a diehard Latics fan, there isnt anyone forward thinking enough at OAFC to even try and engage with the fans never mind the community, in any case there is so much apathy towards the club and how its run I'm not sure anyone would buy into it, Its a sad reflection that a club with only 10 years of history can put a lot of lower league clubs to shame with their structure, they currently have a few thousand share holders who all have equal voting rights each with one vote, its a business model that appeals to me and the club with its community roots in Moston is only going to go from strength to strength, I wish them well. a259
Portsmouth managed to get over 2000 supporters to pay £1000 each for a share raising about £2.5 million.
NewBlue
It's a very good model they have there but it's easy to start from scratch when you've got 100,000s of potential fans like they have and people willing to donate obscene figures. Try doing something like that in Oldham and the club would instantly become uncompetitive. The fact they're an offshoot of the biggest club side in the world means they have resources that Oldham could never dream of, and to compare them to any other club side is totally unfair.
