Stevie_J
Just wanted to clarify a couple of things on this issue of starting new threads on OWTB. To be clear, no one should be worried about starting a new thread for anything that's worthy of discussion and isn't already covered elsewhere. When Ackey raised the issue, the concern was more that multiple threads were popping up covering the same issues and people were repeating the same points across them all, which isn't necessary if it's contained to a single thread. However, one poster, who's spent years on mod-approval (where his posts only appear after manual approval by us) has managed to get himself back to that status, as I can only think he's trying to piss us off with completely unnecessary threads where it seems he's trying to hard to come up with a new topic of (unnecessary and uninspiring) dicussion each time. We don't want reasonable members to feel stifled by a reluctance to start new threads - go ahead - in the grand scheme of things it really won't make that much difference. Cheers. I can see the repeat threads issue, but cant understand why it costs owtb money to post new threads?

It gives more items to click on. Every click adds to the bandwidth used by the site.
lalalajpkalala
On 26.10.2017 at 4:17 PM, Ackey said: Basically every time you open a page (same thread, new thread, other...) you take a little bit of data from the server which holds OWTB and move it to your pc/phone/device. This in isolation is fine, but we have a very active and quite large user base which we're really proud of building up (for the fan base/club size). So if there's one thread on a topic you pull that data back to you once. If you have to go to three threads for the data you're pulling it back three times, and thus tripling the cost. Again, in isolation that's a tiny amount, probably (not really measurable in this way) 0.001p or something tiny. But when that's a lot of people it all adds up. This is a pretty simplified example, but hopefully it helps.

Yes, but it's not exactly lucrative; relative to the cost of our IPB package, it's very small.
