After his 1st 3 performances we need to snatch some cash for him now. His value is decreasing rapidly with every season, he's been :censored: & uninterested in the 3 games so far!!

He gave a 'goodbye' applause at the end of the game today too. Waited until all the rest of the team had gone & came right over alone.

if we sell taylor, we may as well give up and concede that we're going down. after the start we've had, who's going to want to come in and replace him? can't think of anyone who'd be as effective that would want to?

If he goes he needs to be replaced by a left winger who knows his job is to cross the ball properly.

go on, what does he add?

crossing? No

Passing? No

Shooting ability? no great shakes

Beating a man? No

Anticipation when on the attack and of other players? given he is supposidly a championship player, No.

Dead easy to read on the LW - stand in front of him when he cuts in and block him off, simple.

He began his career on the RW and took Forest to shreds beating players and crossing the ball - LW has ruined him.

Get him on the RW, coach him to beat a man and whip a cross over - THAT IS HIS JOB.

I am sure there are young players out there (Connor Hughes in our reserves is one example) who get the ball, take their man on and whip crosses over.

Take those blinkers off and just watch Taylor in games and what he does and doesn't/should do as a winger - far little then you'd think.

Pace but not much else.

So you honestly don't think we'd be losing much if we sold a player who scored 20% of our league goals, from midfield, last season? As a team struggling for goals as it is?

we're getting fook all from him right now (and many other players at this moment in time) so honestly, no.

The guy is predicatable beyond belief as a LW - dribble, stop, turn back, give it to black. OR cut inside, dribble, dribble, get tackled.

Ashley Yound is a right footed player playing left wing, so I do not deny that he can't be used there; but have a guess what Ashley Young does time and again when cutting in?

CROSSES THE FOOKIN BALL FOR THE STRIKERS! I don't think Taylor does this once in a game, ever.

Get rid, or put him and keep on the RW, where he at least is forced to take a man on and put a cross in as it is his only option with him being right footed.

Feel so sorry for Smith/Reid - Morais, although not as much as he should, crosses for them now and again, but they get nowt from 'Tayls'.

You're comparing Chris Taylor to Ashley Young, really?

The fact is he was our top scorer last season, and other teams regard him as our main threat. People on this board seem to have the idea that as soon as we get rid of a player, a ready made replacement will suddenly pop up from nowhere and immediately improve our side. Unfortunately, that's not the way it happens, and we'd be hard pushed to find a player as good as Taylor.

Yet again, you have missed the point.

Of course Ashley Young is better than Taylor that is without question - i am comparing the function of Young and what he delivers to what Taylor gives us.

Taylor and Morais both have the job to put crosses in, just like Ashley Young.

He does it every attack - puts in a cross.

Taylor never does it despite all his faffing around and fancy crap he does, all huff but no end product which all managers see - sure he is pacey and therefore is a threat, but all you have to do is let him cut inside and block him off.

Now if the strikers knew that every time he cuts in he will try to cross a ball in to them, then we may, just may, see some goals going in; or put him on the right and say as soon as you get it whip it over..it may JUST JUST work....

He's scored plenty of goals cutting inside, not to mention the amount of space he creates for an overlapping fullback by dragging his marker inside. Plus it takes incredible technique to measure a cross after cutting inside, more often than not even at the top level theyre overhit and float out of play, thats hardly only taylors fault...

This Chris Taylor is a RW /LW debate is quite tiresome.

As someone who followed his progress with interest as an 11-16 year old when he played for Springhead, I just don't get where people say he started as a right winger. Chris was a cental midfielder. He played against my sons team in that position for 5 years. Simple as that. Chris had a good engine even at that age, was box to box and was stand out, easily gluiding past players (not really a surprise therfore that the professionals saw fit to move him out wide.)

When he 1st came to the club, TP and then RM saw fit to use him as winger/wing back and the end result was that he has played left and right wing as well as just behind the front man, together with the odd game at full back. There is nothing in his 1st 6 or 7 years as a player from 11 onwards that suggests he has always been a left or right winger.

He is versatile, lively and gets us into positions that others can't. He gets at the opposition and winds them up. Yes he is a grass eater and goes down easily, but there again the Portugese prancing pony, now at Madrid has made a career of doing that.

Is he worth £500K, or even £1 million? I don't know. The club will have put a valuation on him, like they would any other player and if that is met then he is offski and that money will be used to pay overheads and/or bring in a replacement. That is the way our club has operated for all but 1 year of the 45 years that I have followed them.

In the meantime, I trust that he will give his all in every game. Some will be good, others not so good, but leave the lad alone he is doing his best.

Over the last 5 years, people keep telling me that teams have "worked him out." If thats the case, then why is he still constantly double teamed, why is he regularly targeted by the opposition and why was he our top scorer last season from, for the most part, the left wing? The answer is that he has matured and progressed as a person and as a player.

In my opinion, he is currently our most valuable asset both on the pitch and from a balance sheet point of view, but there again over the years so were numerous player at the time. Paul Atkinson, John Ryan, Mark Ward, Mick Quinn etc etc etc. The world moves on. If CT goes then so be it. The club comes before and after players, new heroes emerge and from nothing a rennaicance comes. Stability is the single most important factor. The only constant needs to be the manager as it was when JF and then JR were in charge. Give PD the time and with or without CT we will have some success again.

I see the frustration but perhaps it's what Dickov expects from him? He's on his left foot and lacks the support Morais has in Lee, so he looks to knock it past his marker and 'maraud' at pace. To be fair it's been very effective at times but yes it would be nice to see him go for the byline more, if only to help disguise his main act.

It amuses me when things are going wrong at Latics.

We've had threads on:

- Taylor's crap

- Lee shouldn't be our right back

- Furman's affected by the captaincy

Sometimes I think we miss the blindingly obvious - there are players to build our side around. They don't need replacing / changing.

Great point. It seems as though all some latics fans want to do is complain about our best players. How someone can start a thread saying we need to replace Lee when we have (in my opinion) a below average left back is beyond me.

Taylor is our best player - he scored 11 last season and yet he's still not good enough for some

Lee is one of the better full-backs in the league

Furman is our best central midfielder

I would happily bet anyone on here that all 3 players will end up in the championship or above if and when we decide to sell them.

But then again, looking at this thread some people think Eardley will be back in league one soon?!? I know most clubs have fans who appear to know nothing about football but is it just me or do we have bloody loads of them?

Selling Taylor will send us down.

If anyone can name a suitable replacement for Taylor who will guarantee at least 8-10 from midfield without having to spend anything on them then please feel free to post the name on this thread. I can't think of one.

I think it's fair to say that we need more from both wingers, as yet again despite his hero worship Morais has contributed very little, exactly as he has done from February onwards and during a poor pre-season. The amount of times he leaves us exposed down the right is criminal, no wonder Lee looks so disillusioned. Said it before and I'll say it again, Morais is a luxury and in a team of relegation fodder, one we can ill afford….

I go to most away games & this one looked different.

If I read it wrong then fair do's but like I say this one felt different.

If you maan Taylor's reaction at the end -I said the same on the coach
