  1. Huddersfield's scheme is clearly a loss leader. You only have to look at the Chairman's comments above. They've generated the same income from season tickets as they did last year. Well done! Now all they've got to look forward to is the gate receipt income from away fans and the bank holiday brigade who attend 1 or 2 games a year. Forget about pie and ale sales as well, quite apart from the fact not everyone who goes to games bothers buying something, they're not likely to get more than 3,000 extra fans per game because most of the 16,000 ST holders have no intention of attending all the time. The club is buying itself some support and atmosphere which is admirable, if expensive. Geeze, if only they had the acoustics of the RRE!
  2. I think you're right there. This was the entry for him in the M.E.N. player of the year review: - "DAVID LIVERMORE: His experience after arriving on loan from Hull City impressed boss John Sheridan enough to offer a permanent deal, which Livermore turned down." Personally, I'm not too bothered either way.
  3. 891.2 miles for me if the figures on the OS are correct. That's anywhere less than a 200 miles round trip plus Leicester. If things are going well I'll probably call in on the monkey hangers as well.
  4. I'm afraid it is wishful thinking. Season ticket sales are down on last year unless we have a stampede before 5pm tonight. At least I can claim to be in a more select band of people now.
  5. They'll have to start using 'spoiler' alerts like on movie websites! That way, you'd only have yourself to blame as you recover from the disappointment that Patric Berger hasn't signed for us!
  6. The most disappointing aspect about the choice of the new shirt was the way the fans' vote was conducted. I felt at the time that because more people didn't want the leading shirt than did (the combined votes of the other 3 were much higher than fluo-fluo) the club should have eliminated the shirt with the lowest votes and continued the voting process. A couple of days later the next lowest could have been dropped out leaving a 2-horse race. At that point I couldn't have argued with the eventual winner, even if it turned out to be the fluorescent carbuncle we've been lumbered with. However, seeing as I didn't bother to email the club with my suggestion at the time I can't really complain, can I?
  7. Like the majority of members on this board I'm very pleased not only with the potential quality of the 2 lads we've signed but also the fact the deals have been tied up so early. As far as the striker situation is concerned, I really do believe that we need a target man who's good in the air, even if it's only from the bench. Although I'm too damned lazy to back this up (statto's to the rescue, please!), I'm pretty sure that Chris Porter scored as many headed goals in his final season than the whole of our team did in the last one.
  8. Swap Fleming for Crossley and it's quite an old team!
  9. Another Darlo fan quote: - "I think a fresh start away from the darlo whingers would probably do him the world of good and he may well thrive." Hmm, out of the frying pan and into the fire?
  10. My office is on Albert Square and the place is already awash with noisy, drunken Jocks. Roll on tomorrow when tens of thousands more descend on the place!
  11. I think that's a brilliant idea...but unfortunately, it's come just a little late. If it was my last chance to sit in my regular spot I wouldn't give it up for the world.
  12. Crossley. Injury prone? Hasn't he made 42 starts this season? If that's a sign of being injury prone it's a pity most of his team mates weren't as 'unlucky'!
  13. £308 / £328 for adult tickets is very reasonable and obviously better value for money (on a cost per game basis, not a cost v entertainment basis) than last season. I didn't moan about pricing last year so I certainly won't this year. We could all go on at length about the lack of quality at BP this season but in fairness, Hartlepool aside, the last few months have been pretty entertaining. With that fresh in my mind I'll be breaking the cheque book out.
  14. Why does it not surprise me that it's season ticket holders that you know that might not renew? I can picture you all on a Saturday afternoon like Harry Enfield's old gits characters, possibly with blankets draped over your legs. I know that trying to stay positive isn't your bag slurms but if you fancy a dose of the 'happy clap' sometime, I'll gladly oblige!
  15. In the Everton game, If I remember rightly, Smalley gave Leighton Baines such a torrid time he got subbed.
  16. The problem lies not with the fact some 'fans' moan, it's the manner in which they do it. I simply don't agree with the argument that you pay your money so you can say what you want. There are rules regarding crowd behaviour and some of the balloons at Boundary Park regularly break them. I agree with Shez, if anyone is turning up just to be abusive, please don't bother because we're better off without you. Just because the idiots don't mind listening to themselves spout vitriolic nonsense for 90 minutes doesn't mean everybody else does, especially families with children.
  17. I'm afraid that quite a few commercial companies that I've known have paid wages late or asked for staff to voluntary defer their wages. All of them went bust in the end including a couple owing wages which the government had to foot. P.S. These weren't my companies by the way!
  18. I'm bored so I've taken a look at our current squad and made my guesses at what it will look like going into the new season. I've gone for 5 new signings (4 or 5 are expected according to Mark Crossley's recent LW interview) and by the way, I do expect Shez to be in charge of this lot. Feel free to agree, disagree or call this exercise sad and pointless. Goalkeepers Mark Crossley (Under contract) Crossley Understudy (New) Josh Bell (Will be offered a 1-year contract) Defenders Kelvin Lomax (Under contract) Left Back (New) Reuben Hazell (Under contract) Stefan Stam (Will be offered a 1-year contract) Sean Gregan (Under contract) Michael Pearson (Will be offered a 1-year contract) Paul Black (Under contract) Midfielders Mark Allott (Under contract) Left Winger (New) Playmaker (New - Fabian Yantorno?) Gary McDonald (Will be offered a 1-year contract) Chris Taylor (Under contract) Aaron Chalmers (2nd year of scholarship) Ashley Kelly (Will be offered a 1-year contract) Strikers Lee Hughes (Under contract) Craig Davies (Under contract) Lewis Allesandra (Will be offered a 2-year contract) Target Man (New) Deane Smalley (Will be offered a 2-year contract) Matt Wolfenden (Under contract) Leavers Josh Ollerenshaw (Not offered a contract) Neil Eardley (Will move up the league for £500k plus extras) John Thompson (Allowed a fresh start elsewhere) Jason Jarrett (Loan) (Will sign for his 27th club) J P Kalala (Will move back south where it's warmer) Andy Liddell (May keep on reduced basic & appearance-based bonuses, but doubt it) Leon Constantine (Loan) (Will move to another League One club)
  19. Irrespective of how fair the 15 point deduction was, if Leeds were to get any points back at this stage of the season it would be completely unfair on the rest of us. Firstly, despite being punished for overspending other people's money, they've managed to put together one of the most expensive squads in the division and secondly, how many additional points do you reckon they picked up during their siege mentality start to the season where they felt everyone was against them? If they get anything back there'll be uproar from any team with a vested interest.
  20. I'm outing the Corporal as a Red on this very blue board.
  21. Some interesting (or pointless, depending on your disposition) stats involving us and Luton: - - In 22 league games where Luton have conceded first, they've drawn 4 and lost 18! - In 13 games where Latics have scored 2 or more goals, we've won 12 and drawn 1. On that basis I'm going for 2-0 'tics, Constantine and Taylor.
  22. Prior to JP and Thompson coming back from injury we had 5 trainees on the bench. We don't have the funds to replace all of them with seasoned pros who would be good enough for an extended run in the first team, they're merely there as cover. All of them could come of the bench but it's unlikely any of them would retain their place (unless they did a Smalley or Alessandra ) Saving the pennies until our hand is forced is sensible management, not sitting on your hands. Heck, at least we did have 'keeper cover on the bench, some teams don't even bother!
  23. Hey, don't forget about England playing in the Euro Championships this summer. Oh no, wait!!!
