  1. I'm wondering why Leeds would let players go out to Brighton and us when we could both be right in the mix with them for the play-offs. Please tell me they're not likely to get any of their 15 points back!
  2. Seems to me that he's done alright with our money in the scheme of things. For every Ricketts (was he Shez's man or TTA's?) there's a Davies. For every Thompson there's a Gregan. Even Crossley has managed to prove his worth to most fans. This 'patience is wearing thin in the corridors of power at BP' nonsense is unproven rumour until substantiated. Shez's comments about not signing players that he doesn't feel are right for the club possibly costing him is job is based on the known fact that the TTA would like to see us in the Championship sometime soon and maybe, just maybe said players could have come to the club and done a great job. He's speculating and I'd rather he speculated like that than risk throwing our budget away on a player who can't wait to snuggle up under his 2-year deal, maybe never to be seen again. In the meantime, while there's money on the table, Shez's job is safe. It's when the purse strings are pulled tight that he should be looking in the job ads.
  3. Play-off final's on 25th May so a 3-month loan deal would work from tomorrow. I think we'll sign someone but I'm not confident of making the top six this year. Then again, if this happens and then that happens, you never know!
  4. Does anybody know if Donny had selection problems today? Not that I'm suggesting the covers may have been left off for a reason.
  5. One of the best ideas I've seen on here in a long time! Ohhh, Ronnie Ronnie. Ronnie Ronnie Ronnie Ronnie, Ian Moore. If that doesn't do the trick, I'm in striking distance of the of the away bench. Tell me what to throw and I'll throw it.
  6. Chris Moore was (and probably still is!) a very big Stockport County and he had his heart set on buying them. Unfortunately for him (and us), the then chairman, Brendan Elwood refused his advances and the rest is history that we'd rather forget.
  7. I'm all for opinions but some of the views on this board are just boring me. Someone please set up another negative only thread for the happy brigade 'coz I'm going out for a pint.
  8. I'm very pleased with the signings of Jarrett and Livermore as they give us things that we were missing. Although disappointed about not scooping a target man, I can't be as disappointed as Shez will have been. For not 1, but 2 strikers to let us down in the manner in which they did was very unfortunate (and annoying). I would agree with the conspiracy theories regarding Moore Jr, except that it's well documented that Ronnie and Johnny have got a lot of time for each other. The crucial factor there was that Gareth Taylor moved to Donny late on freeing up Moore's move to his daddy, which, was obviously what they were both looking for. It's almost certain (in my opinion) that we'll pick up a loan striker once the ban is lifted on 07/02/08. P.S. Am I right in thinking that if Hull were to cancel Livermore's contract at the end of his 1 month loan, we could sign him permanently on a free?
  9. He had a very solid debut, especially given his lack of first team footy. I liked the fact that he played deep, allowing Allot to mop up around him and McDonald to get forward.
  10. Trotman was at BP tonight in his Latics tracksuit. What does this mean 'coz I don't know!
  11. I can't think of too many young players we've sold over the last few years who had made an impact on the first team but I'm sure somebody would like to post a big list. At the end of the day, Trotman is out of contract in the summer and although we would receive compensation due to his age, it isn't likely to be as much as what's on the table right now. This is going to come down to whether the lad wants to move to the other end of the country or not as I'm sure he knows that he's got a big future in the game provided he stays injury-free and applies himself properly.
  12. Take away the VAT (£136,559.34) and it's a bit further away!
  13. And I was just about to give him some!!! Nevermind.
  14. Who cares what team Huddersfield drew - it really doesn't make any difference. Let's start moaning about Carlisle tomorrow instead!
  15. A blind man on a galloping horse can see that we need a left sided player, a creative midfielder and a target man up front and I appreciate that Shez is probably working very hard to make it happen. I just feel that today, when Shez needed to throw the kitchen sink at a very average Huddersfield side he didn't do it. We've got the worst home record in the division and it isn't the crowds fault. End of.
  16. We had a perfectly good centre-half playing out of position at left back. Should have stuck Trotman up front and played 3 at the back.
  17. 0-1 down, going out of the cup and it's the 93rd minute before Trotman goes up front. Ridiculous, tactically naive and just downright clueless.
  18. I've just finished having a Latics chat with my brother and he's cheered me up no end. I therefore proclaim that: - We WILL sign a couple of players this week who'll make us all smile, we WILL find our way to the last 16 of the cup and we WILL beat Carlisle on Tuesday getting our home league form kickstarted. KTFF P.S. I've only got 7 days of optimism in me though, so don't ask me about Swansea away!
  19. Assuming that we do sign a player before the end of January, I hope that the club hands them a pretty sturdy tin hat because this board is ready chew up and spit out anyone who doesn't push the right buttons even before they've stepped foot on the pitch!
  20. I remember Vernon coming back from his loan spell at the lashers and looking a much better player for it (he could win headers for one). As I cannot suggest any better alternatives to lead our line, I'd have him back but not at the expense of losing Taylor. That would feel like the Wellens deal in reverse!
  21. Shez has made it clear that he's looking for experience. I would have thought that the majority of players with experience playing in the third division and below will be past their sell by date in his opinion.
  22. I must say that I'm not in favour of the workman's jacket and with such a close call between 3 of the shirts, would it have not been better to have eliminated the Citeh top from the running and carried on the vote a little longer?
  23. The reason why Trotman took a while to get going with the first team was because of his lack of professionalism. I read previously (Chris Taylor interview in the matchday programme, I think) that both him and Chris Hall were the worst at the club for turning up to training late. I would guess that's also the reason why he was shown the door at Burnley. That said, he appears to have put that behind him now but I must say that £500k for a third division player who's made around 15 appearances does look like an offer that the club couldn't refuse though I personally hope he stays.
  24. It's a classic chicken and egg situation. Is it up to the team to lift the fans with good football / results or should the fans give the team encouragement even when the chips are down (which, at home they are)? I'm of the opinion that the footballers, professional as they are, should be the ones to get the ball rolling but at the moment this just isn't happening. Therefore, it seems obvious to me that we either show the team a little goodwill and get behind them from the first minute against Huddersfield or we wallow in self-pity while another season passes without success.
