  1. He'll definitely get a great reception from me. Never the best footballer but a 110% trier, and that counts for a huge amount in my book. Nice guy too!
  2. Ok, cool. Have you sat in the RRE for games? Either as a one off or for a 'run' of games? If so, what do you actually think of it in terms of the view/legroom/rake of seats/protection from the elements etc? I ask becasue I sat in there on a regular basis at around the same time as peanuts did by the sounds of it and whilst I agree that the facilities (particularly things like the toilets) are better, I found that there wasn't sufficient leg room (though bizarrrely the very back quarters of the chaddy seem to have a lot less leg room than where I sit on Row J) and that the rake of the seats is too shallow, leading to a feeling of being too far away from the action (in comparison to the Chaddy we're you're virtually on the pitch). I wondered whether some of the people advocating the move had actually experienced sitting in there over the course of 20-25 games on regular basis and were happy to live with the compromises in comfort etc or whether they were advocating the move because it's seen as being the best stand with the best facilities and arguably better accoustics, and hadn't actually experienced sitting in there over an extended period?
  3. Come on Jim, even if you've never sat in there and been rained on (which I have - or rather rained AT cos it blows in horizontally rather that falling on you vertically), you must have seen games where it's started to pee down mid game and the first 10 or 15 rows have ALL scarpered further back in the stand. I've seen that happen plenty of times. The other thing is that on bright days the sun shines directly into the RRE from behind the Chaddy, especially at this time of year when the sun is so low in the sky.
  4. Cheers NIKI. Whereabouts in the Chaddy do you sit? Top middle or bottom, left centre or right of the stand as you look out onto the pitch. I'm just interested to know where people sit currently (particularly those that sit in the Chaddy and advocate a move).
  5. Quick question for NIKI, Eddie and Bring Back Pukka. Whereabouts do you sit at BP?
  6. QUOTE(danoafc @ Feb 14 2008, 15:43 PM) I think we enquired about him when Dowie? was here and he was on some ridiculous amount like £18k per week. I think he's been a VERY good Championship striker but he's getting on now isn't he? I think he's about 6 months older than me so 33/34 ish. Not the sort of age of player I'd want Shez to be risking the war chest on. er.................... yeah, sommat like that. He was earning a frickin fortune anyhow.

  8. I don't think it's him. Surely we'd have known when we took him on loan how much he was earning. It seems that this £7k issue came about as something of a surprise regarding the player in question. I do however understand that we turned down Freedman in the window. Wonder if it was him?
  9. I'm not entirely sure I heard the note of positivity in that statement, unless I missed it in the cacophony of sarcasm! I suppose the fountain is a start, but lets be honest Andy, it's not gonna bring in this towns more affluent residents to spend their hard earned locally is it? It IS as start, sadly things like sculptures and fountains et al should be finishing touches! On a genuinely positive not, hopefully the big new H&M store opening in the Spindles (what used to be the foodcourt) will have a positive effect on how other businesses view the town and it's potential profitability. I know it's not quite a flagship store but it's better than Poundland!
  10. Thing is Chris, in Oldham town centre, I can think of one cafe bar type place where people can get a sandwich and a coffee at lunchtime or whatever and sit in nice surroundings. Certainly not an outdoor one anyway. There's that place near the ELC on the ground floor in the Spindles but even that is pokey and squashed into a corner. I can't help but think if the shops and leisure facilities were considerably better, we'd get more people who live within the borough doing their shopping (clothes and stuff) there rather than passin Oldham up to go into Manchester or wherever. EDIT: Just to say that I realise that cafe bars aren't everybody's cup of tea but they are massively popular and do tend (in Mcr anyway) to have a positive effect on surrounding shopping and leisure businesses.
  11. I'm not entirely sure it'd get printed without censure, Diego!
  12. They aren't youths Chris. Well not anymore they're not!!
  13. Cool. Will it mean that I can get Pizza Express doughballs with my lunch after I take my daughter to swimming lessons on a Saturday? Or maybe be able to buy my undercrackers in M&S in my local town centre? Or perhaps I can sit and watch it gentle bubble away while I'm waiting for the early evening showing of the latest blockbuster movie at my local cinema? Perhaps I'll be able to go and have a mooch round one of those nice European or local farmers markets on Tommyfield where they have stalls selling nice food or drink and lots of nice wares from across the land? What do you mean, NO?! So the only difference from any other weekend will be that I have to wade through gallons of bubbles where some chav has poured washing up liquid into the shiny not so new £200k musical frickin fountain, whilst dodging gangs of hooded youths swearing loudly infront of my little girl, and scruffy smelly gits carrying bag fulls of tat they've bought in the crappy shops in the shopping metropolis that is the Spindles. Great. Thanks OMBC.
  14. I totally agree with this. I'd love to see us playing in a strip that was instantly recognisable again, even though since I've been going (early eighties) we've played in an all blue shirt at least (most of the time). Can we not email the club suggesting that this may be a poular idea and asking the club to put it to the fans via a poll as to whetehr we'd like to see a return to our traditional, recognisable colours? Perhaps if they then decided to trial it we could have variations of the 'ajax' blue centre striped kit for us to choose from.
  15. er......................were you sleeping for his goal on Saturday then?
  16. As somebody said further up the board, we may well have made an enquiry about the boy but WBA may have said they wanted him within commutable distance from Brum/wherever he lives. The only people that actually know are the club officials.
  17. True Kets, though I'm slighty more concerned on a personal level about the Town Hall and it's aesthetics over and above the ugly market hall (though of course the market itslef is a different entity altogether). I work in the centre of Manchester and whilst I understand that we can't draw exact comparisons because of Manchester's commercial 'pull', you look around at the beautiful old buildings like the Town Hall, the Royal Exchange and the old Refuge building and they all sit alongside the new developments giving the city character as well as a modern energy and vibrancy. Oldham is allowing some of it's most significant old buildings to go to ruin, yet not even attracting the new developments to bring aesthetics and 'desirability' to the town. It's going down the nick and it's all a bit sad really.
  18. Dowie doesn't even see eye to eye with himself, Lags!
  19. Hang on a minute bluehobbit, "most of the borough is on some kind of benefit".........Oldham may well have a larger percentage of people claiming benefits than some of it's comparably sized towns but it can't be much higher than much of Tameside, Rochdale and other neighbouring boroughs. Indeed much of the borough is, on the whole, reasonably affluent. The local council doesn't pay people benefits - central gevernment does, so I fail to see the direct correlation. Ok, I'll concede that the number of people on benefits in the town may have a knock on effect in relation to lower rates of council tax being collected etc, but I still can't see how that puts us in any worse a position that any of our neighbouring boroughs. However, the statement about the council barely having any money to mismanage being suggested as a reason for the steady decline in the town is the bit I can't understand. Oldham council have continually turned down outside investment - M&S and IKEA being 2 prime examples. This has led to a downturn in flagship stores/eateries etc wanting to invest in the town - particularly the town centre. For example, why would a big restaurant chain like Frankie and Benny's or Pizza Express or similar, want to invvest money into a town centre which has few of the other 'brands' likely to drag consumers to it's doorstep? If the council had granted permission for these 2 stores (and probably countless other schemes) where there was outside investment coming into the borough, they would undoubtedly have led to other developments leading to economic growth. How can a town of over 200,000 people not have a cinema? A bowling alley? Decent town centre eateries (well I suppose we've got Mc:censored:ties). A bloody town centre toy shop for goodness sake (remember toy 'n' hobby?! )! All these things might encourage more money/investment into the town. I grew up in the seventies and early eighties and remember thinking at the time that Oldham was quite a nice town. Not brilliant but not bad all the same. It's been in decline since then due to poor local government making decisions which on the whole have not been in the whole boroughs interest.
  20. ing cheeky ing ! Anyone would think they were flying high in the league not 5 points begind us having played a game more, losing 3 of their last 5 away! Seems like he's not been making himself popular all round then eh? Stimson being a whopper What an absolute weapon that man is!
  21. Of course Andy. It was a simple one liner repeated over and over, which took into question Mr O'Shea's sexual orientation, and thus further suggested the practises in which he might er..........indulge.
  22. In particular the O'Shea ditty made me chuckle. Not for it's comedy content - it was hardly Ivor Novello, but just for the fact you could hear it loud and clear and I do mean LOUD and CLEAR
  23. I think it was. It was defo 1-0 to the with a couple of mins to go and the ball literally crawled over the line for the equaliser while their keeper desperately scrambled for it!
  24. Which could explain our dismal home form? Here we go again looking for excuses for why we haven't performed at home - it must be the crowds fault eh?! Jeez! Get a grip. Oh, and Stimson is just a whinging tosser, he was griping about something or other last week as well wasn't he? Remember seeing him score an own goal against us at BP for Newcastle.
