  1. Ok firstly I will not go and watch us again this season whilst Penney is in charge. Before everyone jumps on my back saying I'm not a "real fan" trust me I am, my shifts have changed this year meaning I have to work Saturdays as overtime, thankfully I work with some good people so I can call in favours to ensure I still make it to the match. After the last 18 games or so I honestly dont know why I bother, the team we have aren't a bad bunch of players however the tactics we chose to use are abysmal, why can't the fullbacks attack? Why do we play so narrow? Why do the strikers play so far apart? All of these I suspect a decent manager would have corrected after about 5 - 6 games at the worst. Then there is the treatment of :censored:, now I dont know what he did or didn't do over NY but I do know except from Gregan he has been my player of the season, after :censored: and Greegan I would probably say Sheehan is in line for 3rd place, sort of says it all that a left back we had on loan for two months can claim the 3rd best player of the season award. I guess what I really came in here to say is that I love Latics (quite a lot) and I really dont want any harm to come to the club, so they can continue to have my £20 so the club are no worse off but if anyone thinks I'm going sitting in the freezing cold watching dross served up by a tactically inept manager they can think again.
  2. Tony Carrs, Jon Eyre, Carlo Corazzin, Big Les, Neal Eardley there has been loads down the years, and they would probably all get into the team we've got at the min.
  3. Firstly I paid £19 to sit in the main stand lower. And I'll pay it again on Saturday and the time after that and then again the time after that, no matter who is in charge of the club I support Oldham Athletic not Dave Penney or TTA but Oldham Athletic. For me the biggest problem we have as you said is that we are to cautious and for me we set up not to win the game but to not lose. I beleive the stat that we have the 5th best defence in the league mirrors this out. I thought Dean Brill did what he had to do well last night, Gregan was superb again, Hazell and Goodwin steady and Jacobsen looked decent. So defensivley we do look quite well. But going forward we are awful, Danny Whit is shouldn't be near the first team he is so lightweight it's untrue! Smalley is in a poor run of form and Taylor needs to get a grip. Stephens can play and take a good dead ball, :censored: is full or energy and I couldn't understand why Penney didn't start with him last night, Pav is Pav holds it up well but in all honestly isn't in the box enough to offer much of a goal threat. We need a Heff type figure up along Pav to feed off his clever play as it's clear that Smalley, Parker and Taylor can't do it. Until a Heffernan type figure arrives I wouldn't mind us going with a 4-3-3 with the ball and 4-5-1 when we dont have it. My team would be > GK Brill DR Goodwin DL Jacobsen DC Gregan DC Ruben MC Stephens MC :censored: MC Furman AMR Smalley AML Taylor ST Pav. Lets try and get through the middle of teams as were not having much joy playing with wingers at the minute. Wingers who I might add apart from Colbeck don't see to able to cross, this is one of our biggest problems if you ask me.

  5. Furman's main problem this season for me is that he has been asked to do the Worthington role e.g break up play and give the ball. This is mainly becasue we haven't had Worthington available or all our other midfielders would be even worse than Furman. Whitts hasn't got a tackle in him, :censored: is at his best going from box to box so Furman has had to sit in the middle whilst :censored: gets from box to box. I guess really what I'm trying to say is that I wouldn't judge Furman until we have seen him in the team for a long run with a Worthington figure along side him.
  6. The thing with Brill is he started poor, but I gave him a chance then he seemed to turn it round, fair play to the lad I thought. Then he let in a soft goal against MK Dons and then Hudds in the league and it was back to square one. This indicates to me that he is a poor keeper for this level. I do agree that come the end of Jan we wont be near the bottom four, however with Brill in the team we will be a lot closer to it than without. Have you seen him do his pre match and half time warm ups? He struggles to catch the ball let alone do much else.
  7. "But we've won 6 games this season, 5 of them with Brill in the team - we were comfortably higher mid-table when he was dropped now we're in a relegation scrap...that suggests to me his individual errors aside he is good enough for this level. " You sort of argue against yourself there, with "idividual errors aside" he is good enough for this level, clearly he isn't. Now whilst he pulls on the shirt on Saturday I will back him 100%, doesnt mean I have to be happy about it, and I imagine with Brill in the team you will see what a real relegation scrap looks like. I would also say Flav is twice the keeper Brill will ever be, thats why he has played most of his career at this level or above whilst Brill has played in struggling league one and two teams. I don't remember Brill making one good save, where I can remember quite a few Flav made, Gillingham away and Leeds at home stand out, we will be up against it with Brill in the team I wonder who Gregan preferes playing with?
  8. I was just wondering how long it took them to achieve anything of note at Latics and Utd respectivley, It takes time doesnt it!
  9. I would say to fans of a certain age that never got to see Ritchie, Palmer etc.... in their prime that Eyres is most certainly a legend. Dont agree we should retire the No.28 shirt though.
  10. You must have been sat near me, I lost count of the amount of time I heard "6K a week for that Gregan" hahahah
  11. He is awful, no positional sense at Hyde he was way deeper and to far away from Haining and against Halifax he was way to close. Also for his size he wasn't that great in the air, I would say Haining who is a fair bit shorter was far better in the air and on the deck.
  12. Jim Goodwin could be a decent shout, I think he was at Scunny when they went up last time round, decent centre half / midfielder a player who could fit the Penney mold good age and can play a number of positions. Jevons or Parker would be decent squad players but I think we need a first team striker to partner Pawel.
  13. If we had signed a full Wales international at 22 years old from Wolves reserves for example I think the signing would have been met with more positivity. The bloke may just need a change of scene, lets not forget Ruben didn't have a club when we picked him up and he's done ok for us. The signings made are all sensible ones for me, and in areas that everyone says we struggled with last season, a hard working midfielder, a real left back and Puride who can cover a decent number of positions and do a job. As people have said previosuly as long as you get 8 grafters at this level and 2 players who can put the ball in the net you wont go far wrong, just look at Scunny.
  14. The only recent ex player who I would take a chance on would be Tony Carss. Always came across well, has a passion for the club and had a great work ethic as a player. Doubt it will happen but I think we could do worse.
  15. Joe has said this himself, I reckon that will be his No. 1 target this summer.
  16. I really dont think Supple has done a lot wrong to be honest, as for Westlake it's clear he is being played out of position. But yeah theyre both useless and we should go back to Jan Butdz and Seb Hines ASAP.
  17. I love the idea that when crowds are falling the world is in recession that we expect people to pay out 150k on a striker that is untried in league 1. Having seen Bishop play for Bury, he's not all that a large percentage of his goals come from the penalty spot.
