  1. What a film the Longest Day is! Brilliant. Apart from that The Big Sleep is a timeless film noir classic.
  2. To be honest we have had reserve teams for the last 11 seasons but we are still stuck in this crap division. The players that played yesterday (bar maybe Windass) have had enough games this season to be match fit so the no reserves malarky makes bugger all difference.

  4. Ha ha yeah i remember that chant. Luckily it was just up the road from me. It was my first Latics game of the season and it was so nice to be back and 2-0 down in 5 mins. I always felt assured knowing that despite other things in life changing, Latics could always be called upon to show that maybe things werent that bad at all. By the way i think the 4-1 spankings at home by Peterborough and Gillingham deserve their place as well. And it will always thank Bristol City for the 5-1 defeat which finally got rid of Talbot.
  5. Didnt old Ronniesaurus say that after the Tranmere game....only for us to get trounced again 4-0 at Barnsley not long after. Fact is though its one defeat in 11 and we are still somehow despite playing :censored:e for the last few months still only 5 points behind second. Yes it was poor, yes it hurts but in the cold light of day we had a severe off day, but if ever a heavy defeat came at a time when it was needed it is best it happens now while we can begin to take stock and start again. We deserved today's horror show but it showed the weaknesses we have seen for months and Shez hasnt recognised. Think Windy summed it up perfectly in his blog. He is used to calling managers 'gaffer'.....Shez insists on his players calling him 'Shez'. Rightly or wrongly it shouldnt be that way IMO. Buddy buddy managers have never worked.....Keegan and McTurnip the perfect examples of that. In my opinion today's result is a crossroad for Shez. It has pointed out the glaringly obvious and if he doesnt address it then come May we will be a million miles from a play-off position let alone auto (which i think we have no chance of anyway as auto would be far to easy for Latics) and he will be a goner. I mean im sure the obvious which we can also see hasnt escaped the notice of the TTA.
  6. Are you perhaps getting a bit confused between Boothfery Park (think thats how its spelt) where Hull used to play, Bootham Crescent, now Kit Kat Crescent where York used/do play and that sorry excuse for a stadium that houses a load of people who like to do wrong to Donkey's?
  7. How many times has Ronnie Ron churned out that tedious 'naive' quote?!!? Ever thought Ron that its you that is naive you tactical genius you.
  8. But isnt that just the same as singing it away from home as well?
  9. Yep Crainey took it after Lee Richardson got himself sent off against Reading i think. A game we really couldnt afford not to win at the time as we were looking like going down. Luckily he was back for the Millwall game where we were battered for 90 mins and managed to win thanks to a Richardson penalty. Ive hadnt seen such a good penalty taker at Latics till Liddell.
  10. We could sign Lionel Messi tomorrow for a club record £750,001 and he could get injured when he gets lamped in training by someone so does that mean we should never sign anyone at any point just in case they get injured?
  11. The fact he played for ManUre doesnt help, but personally i have always hated him mainly because my mates used to bang on about what a quality player he was, but he seemed nothing more than a talentless thug to me.....but then again i did once buy a Latics shirt with McCarthy on the back so wtf do i know!
  12. To be honest there are only a very select few managers who can go straight in at the top level and handle the whole situation. Many have tried but most end up exactly like Keane and realising that the pressures of managing one of the 'big 20' in the Premiergreed is in fact more than they originally thought. Most managers would do themselves a favour by starting off in the lower leagues and learning their trade that way. Football now at that level is more a science than just lumping together 11 players on a matchday. Things are very different now than they were in Clough's days, mainly because of the glamour lifestyle that top players have nowadays. Football has moved on at every level. Ince started off at Macc and by all accounts did a good job as he did with Franchise before taking the leap to Blackburn. Whether or not like Keane, Ince will find it was one step to quick remains to be seen. Keane will manage elsewhere im sure, but if the likes of Wenger, Benitez, Taggart to name a few thought that starting off with so called smaller clubs was the right idea then Keane is no different. And the gap then between club and International level has also been shown up by McTurnip and Staunton recently. Keane really could have used an experienced head as his number 2 at Sunderland, but probably didnt have the personality to have that. To full of himself IMO.
  13. Im sure Shez rated him when he first joined the club.....otherwise you would assume that he wouldnt have forked out a fee for him. Gannon has had Davies for about a month or so and McAllister has never had him play for him. Players attitudes change a lot over the course of 6 months to a year. Just because they rate him now, does not mean that they will do in a year-2 years time. I dont think his talent has ever been in doubt, but many managers in the past looked to have tried, but failed to get the best out of him. If Gannon or McAllister think they can then thats up to them. Or then he could move to either and find Leeds/Stockport could find themselves in a similar situation a year down the road.......and so the cycle begins again
  14. Keane had begun to completely lose the plot over the last few weeks. In his interviews he began speaking in riddles, and some of his signings were nothing short of managerial suicide. I believe Keane always thought he was better than what he was, and also bigger and better than Sunderland. Still who cares because he is a Grade A tosser!
  15. I just find that anything banks do to help its customers should be greeted with warning signs straight from the off. All banks make out that they are there to make their customers lives easier, which is frankly just not true. Like the majority of MP's in Liarbour they are only there make money for themselves. Im not a mortgage expert but hope any deal you get is for the best as personally i wouldnt trust this government or any bank to do what they say they will do and stick to it. IMO whatever short term gains they offer now, you will end up paying hand over fist sooner rather than later.
  16. I would be amazed if we got anywhere near £300,000 for him. Had it of been last season when he was scoring then maybe, but a player with erm.....problems and frozen out by his current club does not bode well for getting any near that.
  17. Or maybe, as is likely things like this will be reduced, prices will come down and the purse strings of the good old British people will be loosened slightly until the election and if the electorate decides to vote Comrade Brown in again (god help us if he and his corrupt monkey's get back in again) then they will just show complete disregard and contempt for the British people again by raising taxes again. Lets just hope that not everyone is as easily pleased as Mr Exile otherwise we will all be speaking Russian soon
  18. I got the feeling after much detective work that it might have been to do with a calender?
  19. Thats because Corney is off to Barcelona as well. He is selling his stakehold at BP and investing it in a little Tapas bar next to the Nou Camp, and a stall to sell Hughes 09 shirts. Its all true, because a waiter in La Tasca told me at the weekend!
  20. Surely Colonel Mustard was involved somewhere in all this? I always thought he looked slightly suspicious.
  21. Well its clear that Hughesey has no affinity or commitment to the club so i say sell him at the next avaliable opportunity. Forget Henry, Jon Newby would do a job for us
  22. Robertson is currently on loan at Southampton, and according to my Saints supporting mate seems to be pretty handy. Scored an absolute cracker earlier this season. Cant remember if he is on loan till January or if its for the whole season. I would assume that if Shez is aware that Hughes is going then he is exploring other avenues, but unlike some i think Davies will be back in January to fight for his place. A confident focused Davies is like a brand new signing imo
  23. While in fantasy land that would be nice, somehow i think any money from the Hughes sale will be used to cover some of this seasons losses rather than paying out a big wedge of it on a transfer fee. Anyway, i doubt Brizzle would accept anywhere near 300k for Lambert. They really would be screwed without his goals
  24. Unfortuntately its a bit of a double edged sword the the TTA. They want attendances to improve the the mark where we can become a self-sufficient club and put an end to the 15k a week losses, but thats not going to happen until we have a team capable of success......which wont happen if we sell our best players. Then if they dont sell them, then they continue to subsidise the losses we are incurring without a ground development at the moment in sight, so like any business you end up having to sell your assets to cover the losses. Its a question whether we are aiming to become a well run business or a successful footballing club. Sadly they are buggered either way. If they sell and we dont go up they lack ambition, if they dont sell and we struggle to cover the losses then they are gambling with the clubs future. Not a position i would like to be in.
