I dont think any team will ever be as good for individual skill, flair and entertainment as Brazil in this era. 1970 was pretty much the end of their golden generation of players with the likes of Pele, Carlos Alberto, Jairzinho, Tostao, Gerson and Rivelino and a bit earlier Garrincha. It makes me embarrased nowadays when the media refer to our current crop of players ie the Beckham's, Rooney's, Gerrard's etc as the golden generation. Professional footballers now arent even fit to lace the boots of some of the players of that era.

Transfer Merry Go round
Killens_physio replied to DavidCollinge's topic in The opinions4u Terraces - Latics Forum
Most players at this level are a gamble, which is precisely why they are plying their trade at this level. Proven players dont come cheap, and we are working within a budget, and plus as we found out last season proven meants nothing. Look at Kabba, Windy, Byfield etc etc. DP/JR only saw it fit to offer Allott a one year contract and he didnt want it. Worthington came up and DP has decided that he is the kind of player he wants, and for that reason we should give him a chance to show us what he can do. Allott wasnt the same player last season as he was when he won Player of the Year. Out with the old and in with the new. if ever a club needed fresh faces and a new start it is us. Last season was a disaster for some many reasons. Yes we know what to expect from Allott, but then we didnt pull up any trees while he was playing for us so time to give someone else a try. -

And you are basing this on what? The guy hasnt even kicked a ball for us yet and he's already considered a bad signing. Some players lose their way when they have been somewhere for so long. Maybe Worthy needs a fresh start and will get it with us. Lets be honest, Hudds have had a few managers during the time he was there, so maybe Penney can get the best out of him. If not, we didnt pay a fee for him so we lost nothing. Just give him a chance -

35 is Ryan Brooke i think. -
Ah yes Buffalo Joes. Was pretty good in there, especially as they had scantily clad women dancing on the bars. Oh and another thing, if you do end up in the Bigg Market, avoid Sinners at all costs. Hands down the worse place i have, or ever will frequent.

Newcastle is a strange place to go drinking, but is still quality. I went there a few months back on a weekend and went to the Quayside on the Friday and Bigg Market on the Saturday. The Quayside had a few pretty decent bars and a club/late bar down by the Quay but its name escapes me now. However, as you mentioned it was a Stag Do, then then you might want to go to the Bigg Market as thats where they all seem to go. It has your usual bars such as Tiger Tiger which was busy but the pints werent great (especially considering they were £3.70 a pop). We went to Liquid Club on the Friday and to Carling Academy Saturday. Liquid was a complete meat market so good for a stag do, whereas the Carling Academy was more for the music and chatting to sexy rock chicks. I was so mashed both nights that im struggling to remember the name of the places. We relied on a mate of mine who is from Whitley Bay to take us round to the best places. Was a cracking weekend though.

Athletic close in on 3rd capture

I decided to have a look to see what our old friend Moussa Dabo is up to at the moment. There is no picture of him, no record of him having played any matches, no market value and no agent. Did this guy actually exist? -
Im not saying to play like them, but we need to stop getting kicked around the pitch by teams that come with those tactics. We have to have a side that can fight back when it needs to. It wont happen every game as some teams will come to try and play football, but there are times and matches where you need to give as you as you get. If we had done that this season then the season could have been so different. There are times when you need to win ugly........perhaps why Dowie was so good at it

I would have thought that this would be similar to withdrawing cash but not taking it out in time and it goes back in??? During one drunken stupor i actually did this, and called the bank and they investigated. They told me that if that was the case then the ATM would have X amount extra in there, and once they can verify my claim, they would refund the money to my account within 21 days. It took less time than that in the end and got all the money back no worries. I wouldnt be too sceptical not getting it back. I personally think your chances are quite high.

Add to that, that im sure some people voted for Wolfy as MoM when he was only on the pitch a few minutes. -
who could it be?

Franz Bergmeier maybe? -
This is a good point. How many times in recent years have teams come to BP and kicked then shades of wotnot out of us for 90 mins and left with at least a point, sometimes 3. I remember Luton doing that exact thing a couple of seasons ago. Dirty team but was effective for them in that game. Still didnt help them in the end though. Last few seasons teams have come to BP to defend, hit us on the break and be physical and our players werent up for the fight. If DP can make us a physical side with a never say day attitude that would be good for me. Dowie, while having more cash, did this, especially on our travels and teams didnt like to play us because we were fit, motivated and physical. Scunny have always been a bit like that and have reaped the rewards in this division. Plus having Hooper and Sharp in past years may have helped a little

SPL Table - I don't get it?
Killens_physio replied to danoafc's topic in General Football and Allsports Chat
It was the SPL's attempt at making the league more competitive towards the end of the season. The idea was that all the teams in the top half would play each other only one the table splits and likewise for the teams at the bottom. Therefore more 'exciting' games for Europe and relegation. Obviously with every crap idea it failed miserably as the title was a foregone conclusion between the Mighty Gers and the Dirty hoops, and the relegation battle was between two pub teams. Either way you look at it, it would take more than this half arsed idea to improve the competitiveness of the SPL. -

How many yellows did Hughes pick up last season? And how many of them were yellows because of a challenge he made? From what i could see the majority were because he couldnt keep his mouth shut. 8 yellows though for a combative midfielder is not to bad. -
League One 2009/10 Betting
Killens_physio replied to Stevie_J's topic in The opinions4u Terraces - Latics Forum
I agree. -10 points, no money and having to rely on their kids. Fair enough a lot of them got a good settling in period last season but Championship is very different to League One. They will get bullied a hell of lot more than they did in the league above. If they dont start well i can see heads dropping and them really struggling. Could see them being the next Luton unless they find some investment from somewhere, and according to my Saints supporting mate, its not looking likely. -

I remember signing him on FM2008 and i was lucky if he played half a season as he spent the rest suspended. Still im pleased with the signing and pleased that Penney has identified (as if it wasnt obvious) that the midfield really needed sorting. 2 down, 7 more to come. -

Im sure we havent seen the best of KL yet. If he gets a decent pre-season under his belt and the fact we will have a reserve team next season we might see the real match fit Lee, rather than one than can only last for an hour. -

Penny is just signing up his mates. Have we learnt nothing. This is going to lead to a drinking culture at the club. Might as well have Shez back with the old boys club. He will never be dropped even if underperforming. In seriousness though, a mate of mine lives up in Darlo and he is very highly thought of round those parts. Welcome and good luck Rob. Lets hope he peps up the midfield a bit, and his versatility sounds promising. -
