  2. I have always wondered what we should have done during our Prem days and subsequent relegation to the Championship (or whatever it was back then), with the use of hindsight, what we could as a club have done differently. Obviously selling our best players would be one, but then due to the financial impact of relegation this was somewhat unavoidable. I think once we dropped out of the Prem and didnt get back the following year, the spiral to where we are today was inevitable. We have never been lucky enough to have a sugar daddy like Wigan and Blackburn have had in the past. Neither are exactly massive clubs who were steeped in history, but yet had the luck of having rich local investors. Do you think there is anything we could have done once we were relegated to have stopped the rot before it really set in?
  3. Beagrie is a complete moron. He never has a nice word to say about us, and i just put it down to the fact that we snatched a point at Glanford Park against his beloved Scunny in the 94th minute. He was choking on his words as he was covering it. He knows nothing about football so whatever his prediction, it will be the opposite. Should be locked away in football limbo with Mark Lawrenson!
  4. Hopefully it will be one of those players who play in a pairing, just in front of the keeper and just inside the two full backs.......what do they call them again?
  5. The ironic thing about it all is that Darren Bent is complete :censored:e. Would be great if Sunderland withdrew their offer and he was left to fester in the reserves. Talk about alientating yourself to your current employers and any would be future ones. A tool of the highest order!
  6. Even though Sugden was a pile of crap, he did send Blackpool down with that last minute goal, so his later crapness is insignificant in the overall scheme of things.
  7. Oh dear that brings back some awful memories. Colin's bright idea to get us to play his direct football.......stick a big lump of a centre back up front and hope for the best. If memory serves me correct though i seem to remember Dougie taking to the roll like a erm......awkward duck to water, and popping up with a goal. Im sure it was either Fulham or Carlisle???
  8. Mikael Antoine-Curier and John Eyre. Just out of interest, wasnt there 'mysterious' circumstances over why Antione-Curier left the club?
  9. Very sad news indeed. By far and away the best England manager of my generation and seemed like a real gentleman as well. RIP Bobby.
  10. Its obviously how BRF gets his kicks in life. I must say i wish i could be his friend.
  11. Agreed. So apart from Greegs and Rubes do we actually have anyone else (bar youth) who can play as centre back?
  12. No not at all. The fact of the matter is the season hasnt even started yet, and people like him are already writing off our chances for another season of nothingness. Yes the last 12 whatever seasons in this crap league dont give air to optimism, but seasons where we have had a better team on paper has ended up no better. If it was Shez still here i would be inclined to agree with him, but how can anyone write us off when there is a new management team and players in place? Give the team a chance before saying that we are on a hiding to nothing and all doomed!
  13. Hmmmm, well I think Premiership players are bigger mercenaries than any league one player. Paying ridiculous prices to watch 3rd Division football........as opposed to extortinate prices to watch a competition which is as plastic as it comes. Lifeless stadiums and as you claim to be a Man Utd fan, im sure you can associate with that after all you probably only experience the 'big match atmosphere' from your arm chair, players just there for their pay packets and a league full of some of the most mind-numbingly boring football. A league which is all about greed greed and more greed. Finally the young kiddies will probably be priced out of watching Citeh and Manure which leaves a gap open for us to try and exploit. Hope you have another enjoyable season and that you dont choke on your prawn sandwich. You sir are eveything that is wrong with the Premiership and especially Manure. Arrogance beyond belief. We may be in League One, we may not have superstars playing for us, but given my choice again I would always choose Latics. One day you may understand what its like to support a football team, rather than a corperate charade posing as a football club. Edit: I notice that BRF says he didnt miss a home game in 12 years. Well with his attitude i hope he doesnt attend again. There are more than enough idiots like him at BP. One less is no great loss.
  14. Anyone fancy hazarding a guess how many clubs, including trials, Michael Ricketts has been at? Surely he must be in the running for some kind of record. On the flip side his agent must be one smooth talking individual.
  15. While im pleased we helped him out, i find it a bit baffling that we played him in friendly matches, even though he wasnt actually going to sign. Surely it would have been more useful to have fielded our own players to get match practice and sharpness?
  16. What did Billy Sharp ever achieve before moving to Scunny and banging in goals left right and centre? Think he had a loan spell at Rushden? Hardly reason to think he was going to do what he did. Then you look at players like Kabba, Ormerod, Hines, Clegg etc. They all came to us from higher levels and for the most part were utter gash. Other teams in this division have proved that a together, hard working team gets results and gets out of this league. Blackpool and Scunny again are perfect proof of that.
  17. Seems like the Latics injury curse strikes again. Pretty sure he had a quite a good injury record prior to moving to us.
  18. But hasnt DP said that we are already thin on the ground for players once you get past the first 13 or 14? Im hoping that if he does go out on loan, we have a recall clause in there. The last thing we need is to have to bring in ageing journeyman like last season who couldnt give a rats arse about playing for us, but there to further their own agenda. Lee by all accounts seems to be happy to stay and fight for his place. Would rather have him than another loanee.
  19. I think they will but neither of them are going to outpace defences. On their own merits they are both good strikers who have in the past known where the net is. My only concern is that our team once again will lack pace. If DP could find another striker whether it be on loan or permenant who has a bit of pace then i would be more inclined to go with him rather than Hughes. Hughes probably would score goals, but as we saw last season we became extremely predictable as we didnt have the players to mix it up. I am aware though that buying a young, unproven quick forward comes with a risk, and proven forwards with a bit of pace and good goalscoring record are out of our price range. Its a tough one for DP. While my original thoughts were that Hughes could do one, looking at it now we only have Pav, COG, Smalley, Alice and Brooke who can play up front. Pav excluded, the rest didnt get 10 goals between them last season.
  20. To be honest I thought England would better off now than they are. The Aussie's shouldnt even be in with a sniff of even drawing the game. Just hope Strauss's bizarre decision to not make the Aussie's follow on doesnt come back to haunt him. It was important that we broke up the Clarke and Haddin partnership early on, but could do with Australia being at least 8 down by lunch and pray the weather holds. I wonder if the Australian's will do what England did in the last test and start playing for time!
  21. While i think he would still do a job for us, how many bridges can one man burn before we say enough is enough. He has had countless oppotunities to sign a new deal with us when we have offered it, but now he realises no one else wants him he decides to sign with us again. As far as im concerned he can go do one.
