  1. I'll never forget his hat-trick, I mean that goal against Leeds that put us, albeit oh-so-briefly, 2-1 up in the play-offs against Leeds... The instant-reply equaliser by Edwards was my first lesson in "Latics pain"... Aways goals count double my arse...
  2. Well, I, er, called it a programme as I was hoping a 'collector' might have read my post and made me an offer for it until you blew it for me!
  3. I think you're right. It's probably a legal thing where you have to change your name if you go out of business. I was just surprised they were called the Storm when Latics played them in 1988. I have the program here somewhere. The Storm must have taken that name on when the Sounders "re-surfaced".
  4. That's interesting as I was at that match and I just realized the "Seattle Storm" is now a women's basketball team! http://www.wnba.com/storm/ The Seattle Sounders replaced the Storm's football team... http://www.seattlesounders.net/ The Sounders will be a new MLS franchise (hate that word) next year so they'll be looking for some expensive has-been ex-England players (a la Beckham). Any ideas? And I think it's time Latics returned the compliment from 1988 and played Seattle Sounders here in the US!!
  5. Brilliant kit though. Brilliant Orange? Not quite... And I'm just over 40 but I'd struggle naming those players.
  6. Right... so it can't be Stitch as he was pictured in his Leeds shirt comforting Tommy after we went out in the 2nd leg. I agree Kevin "get-out clause" Moore must be one of them
  7. Fair enough! I knew a Yank who "supported" Newcastle and he thought Mackems was a derogatory nickname for ManUre but I couldn't be bothered to correct him as it was so funny!
  8. Is that Les Chapman between Paul Edwards and Alan Young?
  9. IC you spelt that wrong: it's Vic Halom (King of All Geordies)!
  10. Years out? Haemerhhoid (sp.) signed on loan at transfer deadline 1987 cos Royle had fallen out with R.Futcher and, inevitably, it cost us a top 2 spot and into the dreaded new-fangled play-offs we went...
  11. 3 quid! It used to cost 3 quid to get in when I was a lad etc. etc.!! I preferred "Beyond The Boundary"'s "Away Goals Count Double" articles. Great stuff.
  12. Would one of them be the leg-end Ian Ormondroyd signed for the last-minute promotion push....
  13. Serves Billy right for not looking at the camera! Wow, we were in "Shoot!" those days...
  14. It might be Derek. This black & white photo won't help though http://www.leedsfans.org.uk/leeds/players/124.html I always mention Neil in my "worst player" polls so I think we did better with Linighan! In fact, poor Neil could be our "worst signing from Leeds" (sounds like a possible separate thread) as they usually let us have all the best ones, don't they? Cheers, Mart
  15. Thought the diamonds was before this but wasn't sure - think the diamonds was a classic shirt. Neil Firm came on loan from Leeds built like a brick "house" a real stopper if there was one but useless apart from that, is how I remember him, so we sent him back!
  16. I remember that Starline (and being locked outside the Civic Centre) - that's when Alan Hardy really knew how to "stage an event"... Lowest (non cup) was Brighton away midweek around 1988 - we took one coach and we just went for the sake of it. Biggest (non-cup) I would say Barnsley away when we filled their open away end and Marshy did the honours. Or, as some have said previously, Blackburn away when we used to be there in numbers and always lose...
  17. It's actually Peter McDonell - sorry for being pedantic! I liked the shirt with the stripes down the sleeves and Umbro diamonds in them. Was that before this one? I think it was.
  18. He was the one I gave a lift to from Waterford Crystal factory to his B & B on the Latics pre-season tour!! My missus offered him a lift because "his car hadn't arrived" - I nearly fainted when she said it. He sat in the passenger seat of my Vauxhall Astra and I had trouble finding the gear stick!
  19. I was at that match in Cork! I convinced the missus we should go to Ireland for our holiday... We went to the Waterford as well. Was great at Cobh, there was old men watching the match on deck chairs they had brought with them. After the match we were in the small clubhouse drinking with the players watching United thrash Newcastle in the Charity Shield when Craig Fleming said something like "To think we were playing them a couple of seasons ago" And I bit my tongue instead of saying "If you'd have hoofed the ball away from you-know-who in the FA Cup Semi at Wembley we would have beaten those t**ts!"!! We also gave Geoff a lift back from the crystal factory in Waterford. Anyone remember Geoff, used to go on Barlows a lot? He was quite large and I was worried about my car's suspension!
  20. And didn't he come with an "escape" clause in his contract in case we didn't go up? We didn't go up so he left!
  21. Good luck Neal. Your goal at Elland Road will live long in the memory! And a nice piece of business by Latics especially as it's the best deal since 1998! That's 10 years of give-aways due to our poor financial position.
  22. Love it!! I've said in other posts about take the players on a ride round the northwest on the team coach. Also, establish a singing section behind the goal in the Chaddy (so that it's like being at an away match). All the moaners stay at home... ... maybe not, we need their cash, as it's just as good as anyone else's...
  23. No, I wish I was! But I know the original question came from someone who lives outside the Borough.
