  1. Ditto. I can't believe City and United are choices in this poll.
  2. PMSL! Latics fans' humour - the best in the league.
  3. Yes, I remember it well: we never got more than 10,000 in the regular season even though we were never out of the top 3. Compare that with the Pinch Me season attendances when vouchers were needed for Cup tickets and we didn't even make the play-offs...
  4. In the last match of that season, didn't one of our players get a red card and refuse to leave the field and so the match was abandoned with the resulting (losing) score standing? That was probably the beginning of the end IMO... Can you imagine the reaction to that happening this seasons with one of our "fans favourites"...?
  5. Good point. It was the "glamour of the Cup" that got the bandwagon going in the 1990s. And didn't we sell more home tickets for the FA Cup 4th Round versus Udders than we did for the play-off game versus the Lashers?
  6. Ten Lowest Home Attendance All Competition 1,841 v West Bromwich Albion Simod Cup 10 November 1987 Ten Lowest Home Attendances (Major Competition) 2,510 v Fulham Division 2 03 May 1986 Five Lowest Home FA Cup Attendances 3,604 v Orient FA Cup 3 06 January 1986 4,163 v Brentford FA Cup 3 05 January 1985 Five Lowest Home League Cup Attendances 3,302 v Gillingham Milk Cup 2 Leg 2 26 October 1982 3,540 v Stockport County Milk Cup 2 Leg 2 25 October 1983 I was deffo at the ones above. I thought the Simod Cup attendance was even lower! We lost 3-0 and I remember Big Joe saying something about hearing the crowd's criticism in the Chron... The Fulham 1986 attendance was a bit strange. Can't remember why it was so bad.
  7. I work with a Leicester fan so it would be nice to see them drop down a peg or two (literally!). Didn't realise they were down that end of the table. Although Wednesday or Preston would probably put more much-needed money in the coffers.
  8. Here's this week's classic anthem (complete with Rambo on lead guitar... ) John Farnham - You're The Voice (1986) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99P7TTvpO1g Enjoy... PS Love the new Taproom name! lol
  9. I must admit I didn't spot the mistake for a while... Well it is Monday morning! (I just checked and they STILL haven't corrected it)
  10. As I'm relatively new on here, this might be a Titanic moment but I was thinking about having a weekly "Classic Youtube" topic. What do you think? I'll start it off with this classic video from The Strawbs that I've just used to wind up my co-workers/colleagues as there is talk of a strike in the long term future http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oR6l3r5BRTo Classic, eh?
  11. I remember the Bruce Foxton look-a-like and what you said about him reminded me of something. Once we were succesful, I lost touch with people I used to see at Latics but not really "know" that well because everyone used to stand in the same place every match and with all that empty space you could see everyone else! I remember getting in late to the 1989 Arsenal match and having to stand at the bottom of the Chaddy and wonder who was standing in "my" space further up just to the right of the goals!
  12. Yes, that one was the most painful for me because they changed the rules that very season! Unbelievable and it could only happen to Latics... Never out of the top 3 that season.
  13. "I started something" isn't that a line from a Smiths song? Typical me, typical me... Stop me if you've heard this one before.
  14. Thank you Philliggi, that's exactly what I was saying IMHO. (Do we have to say that each time we express one?). For one reason or another Latics always get shafted. I remember when Wimbledon would get millions for selling their crown jewels and we got 625K for Irwin. Maybe I'm just a pessimist but that's how I see it with Micah and Scholes.
  15. I was told it was a bit cliquey on here and it put me off from signing up for a while. But I think it's a great board apart from the "happy clappy's" attempt to stiifle debate! Group hug, anyone?!?!
  16. Interesting. So would those fans have rather been relegated to the Championship than 'Arry coming back rom Soton? I used to work with a big Pompey fan and he loves 'Appy 'Arry to bits.
  17. That's right and he thought the plastic pitch had a lot to do with it, apparently. Not enough "give" in the artificial as there is with grass. Definite shame - Frankie was like the final piece in a jigsaw. We did so well after he joined Latics midseason, they used to publish league tables in the programme showing we were near the top based on the games since he arrived!
  18. Well said mate. The Scholes thing is about as likely as us ever getting cash for Micah Richards, i.e. improbable.
  19. Wasn't the Star sports editor also a fan? It meant lots of great coverage during the good times.
  20. PMSL, the "ex brooky rug muncher" was a ginge too - I see a pattern emerging... What about Joe Royle's lad - does he count?
  21. Temporary Bandwagon Merchant In Search of Media Attention during 'Pinch Me' season. Now, if only I could make that into a humourous acronym I'd be onto something... TBMISA... TeBaMISA... Oh *** it!
  22. "Kevin Webster's" other mechanic at that time in Corrie was a big fan. He was outside the Greaves after the "parade" the day after Wembley 1990. He seemed a sound lad and didn't mind too much when we sang "You've shagged Sally Webster, You've shagged Sally Webster, You've shagged Sally Webster etc." to him. Not sure what's he up to now though and if he's still "famous"
  23. Yep, remember that tune from the Dell when they thought we were going out of the Littlewoods Cup... It was packed in the parts of the ground they actually let us in. Some Latics who were sat with us on the Latics special train went for a pint near the ground and didn't get in and were obviously gutted - it was quiet on the train on the way back, until it broke down... Good times. And outside Mumps at about 4 in the morning was the first time I heard "Put the champagne on ice, we're going to Wembley twice". Now that was a song for the times.
