  1. The squad is looking as good as it ever has for a number of years. However, having watched Oldham for sooooooo long I must admit that I have a nagging thought. We now have Lee, Liddel, Philllips (hopefully), Taylor and Smalley, all fighting for places on the flanks. I know some of them can play in other positions, but somewhere in the back of my mind is this paranoid feeling that we're going to lose one of them ie Taylor of Smalley. Reassurance needed for one so badly scarred!!!
  2. Don't he think he's a little slow these days?
  3. How on earth did you reach that conclusion? I said he was crap. TBH we're splitting hairs with this one - the three of them were crap.
  4. My impression was that Sharp had to get rid of the squad asap because we were losing money hand over fist. Talbot was given the support of the new owners/investors. Still, tactically, not a lot in it. Charisma - not a lot in it as neither had any but Sharp was an ignorant git, which gives Talbot the edge. It does make you think about Ronnie Moore - crap, but not half as bad as those two. Dare I say it, he even had a little more character than both of them put together. Yes, he's had a dig, but I get the impression he loves the banter and having a wind up/crack.
  5. Oh, come on. 'Walkin' in Oldham' has the potential to become a club anthem!!!! New vote for club song??
  6. If memory serves me right, Joedidn't take him on tour once because 'his wife' (ie redders) 'didn't trust him.'
  7. There have been several recessions, just not here. The tiger economies suffered badly.
  8. I'm wasn't blaming globalisation and never really suggested it was terrible. I was merely pointing out the inevitable ripple effect of a globalised economy. To blame individuals (or even the government) is not entirely fair given the structure of the global economy. Not making any judgements... However, now you've raised the subject, an unfettered capitalist system is not a good thing and actually keeps millions in poverty. The unfair trade policies of the west exasperate the problems in Africa. Exploitation by the west at the expense of the poor is rife. Globalisation has made it much easier to get our sports gear from India from some kid 'earning' 50 pence a day. The flip side, western jobs have been lost to call centres in places like India because they're on 10% of the wages earned over here. The only real winners are the big corporations.
  9. Just got back from Chicago. Watching the news is grim. Over 75,000 people lost their homes last month due to repossession!! It ain't getting better. Globalisation!!!
  10. 'New'. That's pushing it a little!
  11. Liar. I saw Lampard buying a black pudding not cured ham on Ashton market. He went on to say that the ham was too excessive for his tastes but he was hoping to find some tripe and cow heel.
  12. I especially detest Ridsdale. Have you seen he's been given a £500,000 bonus despite huge losses. That man should not be in football. Why is it that when a club hits trouble (Leeds in his case - feelings apart) it's the fans and players that get hit with draconian measures brought in by a Thatcherite has-been while the people responsible ie the owner or CoE, is allowed to walk away and carry on somewhere else. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
  13. LOL. Nice one. You can imagine old Jimmy Flyn and his tribe of cauliflower eared, erh, 'family' going to the local pubs and chippy. Then there's the circus once a year! And car boots! Personally, I've never seen anything wrong with moving to the border or just over it. Lots of fans in Tameside and I can't see why we can't become Oldham and Tameside, like Brighton and Hove. A move to Curzon is also quite close to the motorway, which is good for access and business. It would still need all those extras like the hotel. After all, one of the main reasons for development, apart from the poor state of the ground, is to bring on extra streams of income.
  14. Top ideas. Very appropriate. Can someone speak to someone??
  15. Quality - I'm feeling quite emotional.
  16. I love the line "please resist the temptation to pay a personal visit to the site, security people have now been employed to cover the site 24/7 and for safety reasons you will be turned away". I'm really tempted to go with a fold up chair and some sandwiches.
  17. Don't tell me you typed this out? That's commitment!! Or did you get your dalek army to help? Have you got a job? Either way, I'm impressed. Haven't a clue with stuff like this.
  18. I know your last comment was tongue in cheek but the fact is that many people feel strangely uncomfortable with right footed players playing on the left. One or two on here are obsessed with it. The fact is that the right footed player cuts in, putting the full back onto his weaker foot, opening space and allowing for a varied angle of delivery. It's in the coaching manual.
  19. Teams in group A have some kind of animal connection (owl, cockerel, bantam etc), teams in group have fans who are animals.
  20. Is this a Darren Brown type bit of kidology. Think about it. At some stage a midfield player will move from a Championship club who has some connection, no matter how tenuous, with old trafford. It's a basic percentages game. Then man friday can say 'see, i told you'. Come on Crusoe, you've been watching Brown on a Friday night!!!
  21. Someone told me they'd seen him going into some kind of rehab clinic in Manchester. OK, no they didn't, I'm bored.
  22. "On 25 October 2007 Mulryne joined Kings Lynn FC on a non-contract basis. He was released by the club on 1 January 2008. It was announced on 14 March that Mulryne was training with Cliftonville" Looks doubtful, though he is just 30.
  23. I agree, I never liked the Osmond's as a kid but he was always the ponce who all the girls loved!!! i especially hated Pupply Love. Arghhhhhhhh. Go back home donny.
  24. ...or can you? I think that life for in the Conference, at the bottom, for a young lad - ideal target form some old hasbeen or wanabee - 'lets try it on with the kid' attitude. Only the kid can look after himself...who knows. The yellow was waved AT him, suggesting he has faced the cowardly bullies. See, shezis87, you can read things into things!!! The beauty of doing a lit degree... Whatever, it's a good signing.
