  1. explain... yes let us down if he did indeed stamp/lash out, however we were crying out for extra creativity & he is someone who can see the pass that few others can (wes and smith inc.) all about opinions this place though
  2. It is broke ... Discuss??! The reason for the Mellor/Wes debate is we need a more creative passer. Mellor POTENTIALLY could give us this to add to all else we are doing right. He has yet to prove it ... Well give him the opportunity. Wes will not fire us to the playoffs - will Mellor? Who knows. As for the Rogers debate, the one thing Anton isn't able to produce is creativity (based on Shrewsbury) he is backwards, sideways, anyway but forward!
  3. Mellor and Smith are the medium to long term plan I'm sure. Wes can't pass it but we need his grit I think against PNE + he likes it up there! On Rogers ... I was very excited to see him for a full game and came away very disappointed (the only one on the night): Neat & tidy = check Combative = not convinced Creative = not at all. Mellor's first pass was more creative than any pass Anton had made in the previous 70mins. Add to that a couple of hospital passes that could easily have seen us at 1-1 before DP's second. Real shame as had high hopes. Looking forward it must be Mellor and Smith if we are looking to challenge in the top half Sid was MOM and leaves the other 3 (monty, dayton & rusnak) competing for the right wing berth on Monday. Sid on the left makes a huge impact on his ability to cause havoc, despite his goal coming from the getting to the byline everything else he produced was after a out to in run and a pass or shot. We know he can't cross so left > right wing for Sid. I'd start with Wes and Dayton at PNE. Danny P has to start. He was a revelation in the no.10 role but always gives Rooney a partner in the box. Excellent (belated) debut.
  4. look again - he's stood with hands on hips. I really like the lad, but despite being gutted at missing the chances his job at that point was to applaud the fans and this he didn't do at all.
  5. I love JCH and his disappointment at not scoring two gaping chances was admirable clear as day, however this picture shows the attitude he had at the end. Having tried to walk off the pitch and up the tunnel, a member of the coaching staff grabbed him and made him come over and thank us for our support, yet not one clap from the big man. Some fans will turn on him very clearly if this becomes the norm, which would be a big shame.
  6. Does anyone know ticket info for Tuesday night? Is it still 6 or more players must play from Sat? If so I reckon this would be a possible side... Oxley Winchester Lanzoni Tarky Mills Schmeltz Rodgers Mellor Rusnak JCH Philliskirk (jnr)
  7. I think LJ has realised the flaws in Oxleys game and will be replacing him not looking for cover
  8. Looks like the end. Even if was just for the cameo on Saturday it has been a pleasure to see this lad WANT to play for our shirt. Most gifted player we've had possibly since Shez and at the right stage of his career. Thanks for the memories. Anyone who suggests this isn't a huge loss, because he doesn't always turn up simply can't enjoy watching football. Jose Baxter for just under 12 months was a gift for fans of our club. He has done himself proud and is a credit to the occupation of a 'footballer'. At a time in the game when talented players like Rodwell and Sinclair are happy to just pick up a wage, Jose carved out a new career for himself for his love of playing football. The club have to release his wage off the bill and I understand their need to do so. SC in no way will have believed JB would have stayed till 2 days before the transfer window shuts. I pray he doesn't end up at Sheffield United (though this looks likely) but have to now come to terms with losing JOSEBAXTERBABY.
  9. He wont be leaving because of Saturday. The lad is on incremental contracts each year and in reality the club would unfortunately be better to sell. I hate to hear it and also hate to believe this to be true, however I doubt he will stay and it;s the the club (not necessarily LJ) who 'need' him to leave
  10. It really is a tricky situation for LJ now. As mentioned above, the bold move paid off, however he is still our standout, game winning player. I thought the service to Rooney was excellent and JCH proved an excellent foil on the 1st half, before turning in a MOM contenders performance in the 2nd (what potential he has!). It will be down to how LJ see's Tranmere as a side. Are they as combative as Port Vale? If so same XI for me. If they are as weak as their results suggest should we not try and dominate the midfield and play ball retention all afternoon which would mean Smith and Baxter, with Wes (unluckily so) on the bench? It really is a quandary, but an excellent one for LJ to have. Either way I would definitely stick with the 2 lads up top. Finally, is Baxter in for Dayton to give him a free role on the right an option? Potentially leaving Brown a little too exposed though.

  12. At times in that 2nd half you had to pinch yourself to think he is 19 and cost us very little (undisclosed?). He is as others have said an an absolute BEAST! At 3-1 watching him, Dayton & Monty attack was scary!! So much pace He is a stronger version of Craig Davies. I'm a massive fan of the lad. Proper player we have here!
  13. this is all that is stopping him. stupendous amount of ability
  14. Oxley - shot stopping is fantastic. No command of his area against Stevenage and only improved slightly against Walsall. More to come. 5 Smith - he's simply class. Pure footballer. Possibly my favourite Latics player in the making since Wellens/Kilkenny - takes charge of the match and a massive coup. 9 Dayton - first 10 mins against Stevenage = WOW! Not as impressive since, due to inconsistency. Loads of ability but needs to cut in less. 6 McDonald - excellent unsung hero down at Stevenage. Underused since. A must starter on Saturday for me (ahead of Rooney of JCH plays). Not quick but knows where the goal is and an experiences head amongst a squad of kids. 7 JCH - based on 15 mins at Stevenage and first half against Derby he is a beast. Goalscorer? I'm not sure, but even Mvoto would be up against it in the strength stakes. He's a better version of O'Grady and Craig Davies with more strength. We have a player on our hands here. 7 (due to injury) Rooney - not happy so far, but a Swindon pal of mine insists he will get better. Almost scored on Saturday and to be fair to the lad the service has been dreadful. Crosses from the byline = yes Balls drilled into feet/chest = yes Balls aimlessly hoofed upfield = he's not Matt Smith (but miles better potentially). 6 Schmeltz - not seen enough. Can he cross? I'm not sure. Needs to be more involved (2nd half against Walsall). 5 Rodgers - potential. 5
  15. What level are they? Mellor and Millar came back improved (despite Dickov missing the trick) Bezelika is raw that's for sure, but to call him **** is extremely harsh. He's not a "footballer" which may mean he won't fit into LJ's style, however his recovery ability, built around pace and a decent reading of the game, shone through in those couple of games at BP last season. Good luck to the lad. Great opportunity.
  16. JCH really floored Jose! Watch the celebrations again of the 4th just for Mellor's terrible attempt to slide on his knees - almost injured himself! Watching FLS this morning again and again. What an amazing match!
  17. Mellor was outstanding in parts. Loved the comfort we showed when passing across the back four Swansea-style. Grounds wasn't himself and we were caught out a couple of times and looked woeful. However they did raid a lot in the air and we dealt with set pieces fine. Mellor's ability coming out with the ball will be priceless - always looking to find a man, often drilled balls to McDonald (my MOM) and Rooney. Connor Brown had one of his best games for the club and linked well with the impressive Dayton! All in all it is a work in progress and we will concede a few, however they really help the team play and Tarky finished like a premiership striker!! Very very excited!
  18. Bouzy and Cisak were great shot stoppers but their reluctance to come for crosses was always a worry. We certainly don't need a perfect replacement in Oxley. I'm praying he can move his feet.
  19. Based on the last few games what do we think the starting line-up will be? Providing Rooney and CB joins on loan I reckon LJ starts with... Oxley Brown Tarky CB Grounds Dayton (SID) Smith Wes (MELLOR) Montano Baxter Rooney (JCH) In brackets is my team
  20. Given the right manager he would have done. Dickov and his treatment of Mellor, Winchester, etc. was abysmal throughout his tenure. 45-90mins and back out of the team, the youngsters were his scapegoats. Mellor will have a BIG season in 2013/14 I feel. As with other opinions on here, I do agree it's excellent news but the club did not need to keep fans hanging on for this contract being signed. I do fear Mvoto will be gone in a few days and June will be a massive month for LJ and keeping the fans on-side.
  21. He'll be a huge player for us next season IMO but this news is flat - Mvoto less likely by the day free to leave = big compo to us
