  1. he had tricky feet and was quick but so so lightweight, would be blown off the ball by a gust of wind not for me either prozac
  2. Cisak in for Boozy Assuming Cooper/Bryne at RB Winchester CM with Reid? Monty on left Baxter and Millar as a energetic yet tiny front line Delighted he's given youth the chance. Big game for Carl IMO after LJ's strong comments in the Chron (tho sounds promising he'll be here next year) Matty and Mellor given a breather from the 18
  3. Goal of the season - Derbyshire's 2nd vs. Doncaster in cup Player of the season - Jose Baxter Game of the season - Oldham 3-2 Liverpool Most improved player - Big Jean (immense season - errors almost non-existent) Moment of the season - Those 7 mins at Forest - sheer confused joy that is unlikely to ever be repeated Best away trip - best day out / trip always seems to be Sheffield Utd - Mini Ale Trail with breakfast at Dewsbury and couple of great pints at the Sheffield Tap (pub of the year!) Lowest point of the season - Baxter's yellow card at Preston - first time I really thought we were doomed Biggest Villain - Whoever trashed the Crawley coach Best player vs Latics - Steven Gerrard Best goal vs Latics - Carlisle's left backs lob t'other week Best ground visited - Forest Best food - (never eat at ground but pre-match pub food) Carlisle but horrific 90 mins followed
  4. Pathetic scenes. Epitomises the mindset of youngsters these days. Tuesday was bizarre when we weren't even safe AND today... Did it need Baxter et al. pleading with them at half time to respect the club and the authority figures?! I'm 28 and supports
  5. so given 9 of those have us 1 point from safety then I presume you are worried about the CM pairing? given game time they are the future of this clubs midfield, so comfortable on the ball. Mellor is becoming so much more physical and he has an amazing first touch and a wand of a left peg... good pre-season on fitness and we have a serious player. As for Winchester I have made my opinion clear on the other thread how much I rate the lad, however it is a massive pre-season - he is desperately short physically and hasn't developed, does he know where the gym is? He needs to find it. Add 5-8 of LJ's own to that XI (ok without Jose, Smith and Mvoto) and we have a playoff squad IMO. That's what forums are all about though ... opinions
  6. Carl Winchester is a player who certainly splits opinions among the Latics faithful. Personal opinion of the lad is he has undoubted ability. He is fairly quick, excellent on the ball, being arguably the 3rd most comfortable after Mellor and Baxter at the club, and when he does come forward with the ball he is very direct and proved at times against Brentford in particular at home he is one who can read the mind of Jose. Drawbacks IMO are clearly his lack of physical strength of any kind, and at the forum I hope someone can ask if this is the reason that PD, TP and LJ have not given him a chance despite some excellent performances, none-the-least against L'pool. He has been on the verge of the first XI for a couple of years and if he had been coached better by PD and Taggart then we'd have a serious player on our hands i feel. LJ mentioned he was disappointed with the progress the youths have made since emerging in the first team (prior to his appointment) at the first meeting with the lucky 12, and I assume with CW it's coaching him to look forward more frequently and be more direct with his play. The other side of the coin is the verdict I here so often that he's pi$$ poor. Don't see this but some blinkered fans near me will never forget the last 15mins vs. Nardiello and Exeter and are so closed with their views, who the hell thought there was a player in Millar until LJ came in?? (I didn't - but holding my hands up here - deal should be offered). The thread on keep/let go is very even on Winchester and I am very intruiged to here opinions... Mellor has moved ahead in the pecking order this week, but Carlisle last year proved they can definitely play together.
  7. When playing in the right position he makes us tick. With Mellor supplying him in the hole 2nd half vs. Carlisle we could have scored 5 ... the through balls to Smith and Reid were phenomenal. He is comfortably our best player and if convinced to stay then we have a player who's style combined with LJ's philosophy will see us pushing for the playoffs next term. I'm not stupid to suggest it is at all likely he'll stay and I'm convinced he'll be at The Reebok on 1st July, but who thought we'd keep him last time?!?! #josebaxterbaby
  8. excellent support. horrendous communication between authorities. i was one of the 300-500??? and managed to watch a succession of corners for 35mins before being escorted away from Bury property for trying to give them £20 ... not at one point did we get a proper answer as to our options and they gave us faint hope throughout which was hollow. weird day, but the atmosphere in the swan & cemetery was pure class!! BUT whatever happened to fans (and yes there will be uproar) all that truly matters is OLE OLE OLE OLE MASSIVE 3 points, bring on the Johnson-derby!!
  9. Absolutely YES! either with Andrews or at the head of a midfield 3 in the 3-5-2 formation What a side that would have been. Also we're crying out for the pace of Andrews this season
  10. Interesting! As above, can you please define a "proper manager".... Lee Johnson has come in and impressed the chairman and board enough to hand him a 2 year contract, if he wanted to learn the job as a number two or the board felt that was required he wouldn't be here. The club have made there move and as someone who was in the Q&A session, listened to the GMR interview and witnessed him (in two days) get this bunch of players too buy into everything he wanted us to do, I couldn't be more impressed at this VERY early stage. Ask any of the other 12 and I'm sure you'll find none of us that didn't see the players playing just as he said he would. Credit to LJ for last night. There is a hell of a lot of work to do, but that is a perfect start. He is not a short-term fix!!
  11. standard 4 at the back with Smith playing a Stephens type ball playing role and Weso all action (loads of forward bursts) Baxter, Croft and Simmo behind Barnard. Extremely fluid (esp. 1st half) and looked to get it down and quick sharp passing. Barnard was outstanding and is the one who "did a job" for LJ - ran all night, stretched the defense which lead directly to their ragged looking back line. WELL DONE LEE - definitely put your words at the meeting into practice. #keepthefaith
  12. I'd agree with oafc Oldham on the team he'll pick... Bouzy Smith Tarky Mvoto Grounds Millar (not ideal) croft Wes montano Baxter Barnard
  13. Amazing that he has received as much hate-mail as he told us about today. Disgraced at my fellow oafc 'fans' Corney at times became to defensive this afternoon, but whatever is said about the man he is passionate about the club. I think this is a belting appointment and hope that waiting for "his man" in the summer wont be too detrimental to our status as a league one side and TP, PG and CB continue to step up to the mark. Stay up and the blueprint for success as a club he outlined to the lucky 12 will start looking very promising. C'mon lads 2mro is vital for us!!
  14. I would predict it's either Barnard up top running channels himself, smith at RB instead of Brown OR really left field (it is a day for it!) Montano up front which given he is our only player with undoubted pace could be less bizarre than it sounds!
  15. Sounded like he is well aware that the coaching of youth team players has been well below standard since they have broken into the side (no names but surely Mellor and Winchester), and this is one of the foundations of his future tenure at BP. He touched on Croft vs. Millar which was an interesting point for me as I'm still of the opinion that Millar is the weakest of the current crop of youngsters, but if he can produce more in the LJ ethos then good luck to young Kirky in proving me wrong. Didn't get the chance to ask SC whether there is still an off-field issue with CW and DM (seems obvious with Mellor) which was a shame.
  16. I hear he has more coaching badges than the last 5 managers put together. Sounds unlikely but hugely impressive if it is true.
  17. 1. the 7 mins salvo at Forest may never be beaten 2. Smithy's header vs. Everton 3. Cheering the goals again on the big screen as we left Forest Ground was so much fun!!
  18. Same front six as against forest in second half with Wes for M'changama. Simmo will come narrow when required and feed off smith and baxter reading knock downs. We need wes and furman IMO perhaps with capitano narrow on left like CW against L'pool and Barnard / Simmo up with Smudge. Can't wait, should be a brillaint encounter.
  19. is he really? "prone" implies numerous occasions ... can you name anymore?
  20. Crofty's gonna get you Crofty's gonna get you NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA
  21. LOL at Crofty trecking up them steps up at Tandle!!
  22. Winchester comes off ... we go a wide open 4-1-3-1 and the goal comes straight through the middle. Atrocious management at 1-1 away at an in-form side. Don't get me wrong I like the guy but this weekend he once again proved himself completely inept as a tactician. Could Wes have been more gritty for the goal? potentially yes but he'd have been tackling from behind and 80% to give away a free kick and yellow card. Irrespective of that OR the high quality finish - WTF was he doing on his own in CM - ludicrous management and on a tactical level he was incompetent and in any other occupation would have been sacked long ago. Shame we'll lose his ability to bring in top players but we need someone who can utilise the Baxters, Barnards and Montanos of this world. Thanks PD and good luck but bye bye.
