  1. What makes Worall one of the best wingers we've had in a long time? I have the opposite opinion and I'm just interested to see what people like about him. Personally I feel he fits into LJ's defensive workrate style to a little extent, but not sure he's beaten his man in 4 months. Dayton IMO (and thats all it is) is 10x the player; loads more ability and despite missing two great chances in the small game time in recent weeks, has still looked more dangerous than Worall. I'd be upset if we paid anything for him / broke the wage bank to get him in.
  2. Long ball team? Mixed it up first half and targeted Connor. We sat off and let them play, particularly second half, but we had the chances and defended very solidly - Wilson my MOM and Lockwood looks comfortable. If Groundsy didn't have his lazy passing days he'd be at least a league above this one - terrific covering at times. Rachubka flapped once, but very steady and seems to talk to the back 4 at lot more than Ox. For me the difference in the last 3 games, as it has been all season, is that our captain has been on top of his game. The lad oozes class and is relishing sitting deep behind the marauding Wes and DP. Keep it up Korey and we'll be safe. Again special mention to Sir Gary; worth the entrance fee on his own. Didn't quite come off for him at times, but his sublime control from one particular high looping pass was world class. Keep the Faith!
  3. will today be the day we go 2-0 up for the first time this season (league)?
  4. Big decision to play Smith, Worrall and JCH who have all stuggled to play consecutive games recently / all season. I was certain Dayts would be in for Worrall, who I really think is struggling to make any impact. However it is great to see an unchanged squad - hoping it pays dividends.
  5. Persisting with DP and Worrall - I'm fully behind him and the team but he makes some bizarre decisions.
  6. How to utilise Harkins is the key. Not sure leaving him on the left at home is working - he goes missing too often. Play him in the hole behind JCH could work. Personally I think we need to attempt to dominate the middle of the park more (especially without Smith) and want to see a 4-3-1-2 with clear instructions to the full backs to bomb on forward. Harkins in the hole but give JCH a partner in the young lad Turner, who coped admirably with LJ's bizarre long ball tactics against Rotherham. Rachubka Winchester Lockwood New Tarky Grounds Dayton Wes Byrom (with Dayton narrow on the right) Harkins JCH Turner
  7. How did the lad get on? 2 or 3-man midfield?
  8. Smith injury explains poor form at Tranmere and 2 home games - rushed back too soon possibly Winchester (although I rate him) dropped from 18 is probably correct as woeful for 40 minutes Tuesday DP gets ANOTHER chance - will he play off JCH or **PRAYING** play Harkins narrower and make it a 3-man CM with DP and Worrall supporting from out wide. JCH deserved start Only one of the back 5 starts in same position as Tuesday's XI ... is this LJ's biggest issue - tinker-tinker tinkerman In total 3 players are in same role as Tuesday - so 8 changes!!
  9. It's not a negative if David Mcniven comes home! (how is he still playing?)
  10. How do they choose schools? Is it the school that approaches the club does anyone know?
  11. Terry was brought on to shore up the midfield. CW had been much quieter in the 2nd half, after an excellent 1st half, and was tiring. As above, he did nothing 'wrong', but that's because he didn't attempt anything IMO. Don't remember any tackles or headers, and barring some short passes he did virtually nothing. If anything he helped Gillingham dominate the last 20 minutes by sitting deeper and deeper with Wes and wasn't able to pressurise the man on the ball. The passing game which was a part of the first half disappeared as soon as Winchester went off and I pray that CW gets another chance to shine on Tuesday. LJ desperately needs to develop his game further, by increasing his forward thinking - as soon as he did today Stead was put through on goal and his pass began the move for the goal. LJ has done more than Dickov ever did for CW, but he needs to give him a chance to get a run in his real position whilst Korey Smith remains side-lined. A very similar performance from Mellor against Bristol City was criticised far and wide. Yes it was a VERY brief spell and I'm not judging Terry long-term after that viewing, but this is an honest assessment of his 20 minutes in blue and white.
  12. If you mean the night Eyresy aimed the corner at the edge of the box and the wind blew it in, it must have been horrific today.
  13. Superlatives are thrown around too often in football these days, but yesterday the lad was on another planet. He has that fantastic old fashioned swagger about him. Who needs pace when you can drop a shoulder like Gary did time after time yesterday. Too many modern players rely purely on pace (Sterling, Lennon), it's great to see a player leave his marker on the ground, looking like a fool, and then strolling away looking for his next victim. He has cracking vision and is always looking to play a telling pass. Worrall certainly looked like he could read Gary's passes and linked in well. Would love it if JCH learns from him!
  14. Because he is the best penalty taker we have. Because he is the designated penalty taker and was on the pitch at the time.
  15. he was weak whenever the ball went near him. Couldn't cope with their physicality - he wasn't alone. He also rarely looks for the ball, I don;t buy this "we focused on the left". Just feel he needs a rest.
  16. Dayton and Philli as the wide men for me. Petrasso poor on Sat. Charlie Mac for JCH
  17. This is the lazy tag, and I can see it. He rarely chased down when he himself had lost the ball, however his determination to close down with the team was admirable at times. EXCITED by the prospect of watching Harkins at BP, just needed a striker with movement today and we'd have scored at least a couple more. The best description of Gary yesterday was he has fantastic AWARENESS; always knew where others were for glancing flicks, headers etc. and his timing to bring players into the game was class, the reverse pass to Philli being the pick. Couldn't really get his feet working first half but still showed some neat touches. He was the MOM of the 2nd half, along with the fans favourite ? Mellor! Not sure if he will be a little too 'luxury' away from home, but I'm sure we will find out. Play Charlie Mac's movement in front of him and we'll be alright this season.
  18. Isn't it a feeling winning on a Saturday, even when we havent't played that well. I'm not excited or over the moon, just simply relaxed!! Mellor, as already mentioned, had an excellent match, especially as Stevenage utilised Phil Morris very well in the opening 20 mins. Great to see Petrasso put in a cross and have so many players ready in the box to stick it away, but unfortunately he offered very little after that. Harkins provides what it says on the tin; he is such an aware footballer, his touches are clever & well directed, has the body strength to add to his ability and played a few of the through balls we have been crying out for all season - why didn't Philli just shoot 2nd touch or the ref give the pen? Yes he is lazy and slow and at times his feet wouldn't work as fast as his brain 1st half, but he dominated spells in that second half and I think some of our lads will learn from his footballing awarness. Defence were solid after the first 20 mins when we looked a little asleep despite being 1-0 up. Oxley had nothing to do. Wes was simply outstanding - MOM without a doubt, offered a threat going forward after winning ball after ball following his tireless closign down, great goal and we needed his grit against a typically dispicable Westley outfit. JCH was ineffective and with 2 experienced forwards on the bench he should have been off after 60mins. Moving forward I would love to see LJ play a flowing 4-2-3-1 with Harkins behind Rooney/JCH/Charlie Mac and Dayton and Philli in fleixible wide postions. He played this way in his first few games (Hartlepool inc.) with Baxter, Simmo and Crofty and the side were extremely dynamic going forward. I know some like the wide-men in the side, but since the man who is not named left we don't put enough crosses in, unless Dayton plays left; Sid and Petrasso didnt'/don't put in enough crosses so a move to this formation (which it almost is) can only help, although we need the two wide men to consistantly get close to the CF, which they didnt't enough today. Harkins could be the key, but with Smith and Wes generally reasonably deep, we need Mellor and Kususnga to play higher when we have the ball. Excellent win, despite an average performance, take this into Tuesday and we will start to pull away and gain some much needed momentum.
  19. He split opinions with the people I sit with. One called him a 'donkey' which I challenged. I must say I like what I saw in this lad. Granted the baggage he comes with from Scotland is a bit of a belly and the reports of lazyness were on show at times when he lost the ball (confirmed on LTV) however his TOUCH, STRENGTH and AWARNESS was lovely at times. He was looking to move the ball FORWARDS! and looked for little 1-2-1's on a few separate occasions.
  20. Well that's strange as the only change to the defence was LJ making a call that Mellor is a better FB **not left back** than Brown, as the latter was left out of the XI and the the defence shifted over to the right. That is LJ saying he wanted Mellor in our back four instead of either Plummer or Connor.
  21. Was in the side that kept us up in CM end of last season. He has to improve his athletic ability and stamina, that is something we all agree on. However as a 20yr old young lad he has many attributes to go far in this game. If he is "no good" how did he glide past premiership, no wait, top4 in the premiership midfielders all through that second half? No protection in front of him led to the danger they created down his side.
  22. Re-watched the game on LTV and yes he was caught out a few times, but Sterling stretched the play so much Petrasso needed to be more involved defensively, particularly in the 2nd period. However, going forward, barring a couple of misplaced passes, he still looks our most comfortable player in possession and strode past players time and again down the flank. Awesome eye for a pass and for heavens sake as the LTV commentators reminded me HE IS ONLY 20 YEARS OLD!! He has got a couple of years yet before he needs to be a full regular IMO or before he is written off. He's made strides this season already and whoever mentioned Adam Griffin and David Mellor in the same breath earlier in this thread needs to take a long hard look at themselves!
  23. Liverpool TV Started at 12pm On again at 7:30 for all those who want to sky+ it
  24. Marlon King NO If this lad is a LB with attacking threat but struggles tracking a man then we have that in Mellor already IMO. Mills coming back is desirable.
