  1. That's fantastic Stipey. That was the golden era of football for my money, the late Seventies. Real football, great players, and hard tackles. Oh, and you could stand without any fuss as well! Spotland was a bit of a dump, however senior family members took me to watch my first football match in 1979 at Rochdale - family members who are sadly no longer with me. Great memories. Good times...
  2. Act. Sgt. Major D. Thomas No T/10704297 I miss you mate.
  3. I thought that too. Maybe on the set of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland?

  8. I kinda like Vauxhall Motors I suppose - I don't know why I look out for their scores in the paper every week, strange. I look out for Caersws too, I have absolutely no idea why - although they are in the FAW - I'll shut up...
  9. Cheers Derek. I wonder what all of us think about that...
  10. Struggling to get into the Chatroom? ========================= You need the latest Java platform installed, and enabled on your browser. First make sure your browser is up-to-date with the latest version. Then, if you do not have Java installed already, go to >>>> LINK <<<< and download the Java VirtualMachine. Run the executable and follow the installation instructions. That's it! The key to having an error free chatroom experience, is having your browser and Java environment bang up to date. I use Firefox 2 on Vista and both the Java environment and my browser automatically make sure that the versions I'm running are the latest. If you are still experiencing some difficulty with the chatroom, please PM one of the mods and we'll help you out.
  11. Yeah, I agree with that line-up n'all. I'm also an advocate of Lomax getting back into the side, so that tips it for me.
  12. OWTB has a swear word filter in place due to the nature of it's motif - football! We have members from all over the world, probably many different religions, races, genders - and all ages. As a site set up to provide a place for Latics fans and football fans to voice their opinions without excessive flaming, a place where Latics fans can socialise, a place for Latics fans to enjoy their interests, plus much, much more, we instituted a swear filter to keep this as friendly a place as possible for all. What happens on the terraces, on the streets, in the schoolyard, on other forums, or with what individuals do "at the game" is none of our concern. It does not mean we have to play ball regarding forum policy, on the basis that is goes on elsewhere. Everybody (I mean everybody - all members) is doing a great job on here of making this a great forum community, our format, communication and approach is well liked. This site receives very few complaints from its users - and at the moment of going to press, not one OWTB user has a warning against them. We can safely attribute all of this to a combination of good people (this means you - the members!), good policies, and good moderation. If you have an opinion on the swear filtering, please read the forums guidelines thoroughly, take a moment to understand why we uphold it, who might be reading the posts, and what ideas you might have on how we may be able to improve it. We are always listening and have made improvements to OWTB based on input before. So, no matter if you were involved in the moderation of the site or not, please PM us and let us know what you think about word filtering, and how you might improve the system. Thanks for listening, Matt.

  18. I've been to Knowsley Road when it's absolutely packed to the rafters on more than one occaision. However, I have never witnessed a single surge - plenty of jumping up and down and that - but no surges. It don't answer your question much, but the behaviour of the fans looks like a main factor.
  19. While all these films are in many ways very good, do you think they are a decent portrayal of an era in British life? I'll give you Trainspotting and Withnail and I, amongst some others. However, I doubt Life of Brian qualifies. This is England isn't as good as Made in Britain, and due to MiB's closeness to the era it portrays - Made in Britain beats This is England hands down for accuracy.
  20. Kes is a good film, it's not my cup of tea - but writer Hines and helmer Loach made a brilliant film. It made me think of other Great British films, Brit Flicks that stood out for their snapshot of an era - and brilliant social analysis. Not unlike Kes... Here's five truly incredible British Films that managed to tick the boxes... 1. Scum (1979) Dir: Alan Clarke Written By: Roy Minton Ray Winstone, Phil Daniels, Mick Ford >>>> YOUTUBE CLIP <<<< 2. The Firm (1988) Dir: Alan Clarke Written By: Al Ashton Gary Oldman, Lesley Manville, Philip Davis >>>> YOUTUBE CLIP <<<< 3. Made in Britain (1982) Dir: Alan Clarke Written By: David Leland Tim Roth >>>> YOUTUBE CLIP <<<< 4. Get Carter (1971) Dir: Mike Hodges Written By: Ted Lewis, Mike Hodges Michael Caine, Brit Ekland >>>> YOUTUBE CLIP <<<< 5. Rita, Sue and Bob Too (1986) Dir: Alan Clarke (! - Bit of a trend developing) Written By: Andrea Dunbar Michelle Holmes, Siobhan Finneran, George Costigan

  22. Unfortunately it is the few that abuse the freedom of our previous no-censorship, and abuse the good nature of others that ultimately spoil it for the rest. If I was certain that after lowering the priority of the filter, there wouldn't be excessive and inappropriate use of profanity - I'd scrap it right now. What OWTB offers is an option for the user, it's not too different to other forums - but one of our priorities is to give the Latics supporters community an opportunity to maybe enjoy supporting Oldham Athletic more, and football in general. Enjoy it! Some call OWTB a "love-in" - it makes me laugh! I think OWTB is more "fun" than "love-in". What's wrong with sharing our vision with others, and others buying into it? God forbid that we might be putting some enjoyment back into the online experience!
