  1. And his shorts.... Decent footballer though
  2. Looks like he's grabbed his socks out of lost property ??
  3. And anyone who thinks mvoto was a better player than Hazell needs to hang their boots up...
  4. Worrying. Looking at this "11" tells you why we have not got out of league 1. Put Dowies 11 in and we would have been promoted any other season. Which of this 11 would have got in his team? Baxter at a push?
  5. Briefly- First half - didn't show much intention and full backs rarely got forward. We held our shape well but I think a higher press would be needed to force a few errors. Kelly, jones and Kasunga impressed for me first half. Second half- Dieng looked best player on pitch. Gross impressed too as did Winchester. brown makes a huge difference though from full back with his forward runs off the ball - gives the opposition problems and this opened things up for us second half. Lera and Lockwood looked very tidy too. Sheriff was second half trailist and I thought he did well... Not sure that's his position out on right though? Forte did ok first half but I'm not sure in him? IMO Dayton looks about our 5th best midfielder behind Kelly, Dieng, jones , Winchester and arguable Mellor.
  6. One on one sterling didn't beat him once. There was occasions when he was outnumbered but what did you want him to do? Dive in and watch sterling drop the shoulder and run past him? As for the amount of time you claim he had in the first half.... Well it obviously worked because we kept a clean sheet
  7. Mellor had a cracking game. Both he and kasunga had the toughest jobs today and they both did brilliantly. Your an idiot if you thought he was poor......
  8. For me he should start Sunday. If the incentive of playing at Anfield isn't enough then playing against your dads side certainly would be. Could be a real plus for us if Anton plays and has that family competitive streak to beat his dad. In addition, Anton hasn't really been given a chance of a run of games and as we all know results haven't been going our way so ATM I don't see anyone of the guys who have stepped in at CM keeping him out. It's his turn for a game and what a place to stake your claim as a regular... Would he start for you?
  9. Beaten by the better side I am afraid. We didn't start well enough and they played with a lot of intensity from the off. I felt fortunate to get to pens and always felt chesterfield had the belief to go on and win. I fear we are bein Sussed a little bit here, teams are pressing us high up and we are struggling to play and create chances, and our 4-4-2 tonight was massively overrun by chesterfields more fluid and free form play. We look tired......... And chased the ball for very long periods tonight. I did say after Saturday that Grounds either can't or won't open his body with the ball and always goes in field......well tonight that cost us. Sat in the main stand and LJ AND PM were scratching their heads for a while when looking to make a sub, really didn't have anyone to come on and make an impact did we? Would like to see us go with midfield 3 on Saturday and see our full backs attack with some intent.
  10. It was a poor game - simple as. No pace, no tempo and a real lack of desire but we are still in the hat so we have to make sure we turn up for the replay. On another note, Sidney seems to be getting a lot of stick on here, yes his final balls isn't the best but you have to remember why he is in league 1 and not the premiership. Dayton on the other hand seems to be getting away with all the flack? He didn't touch the ball for the first 20 mins and when he did he crossed it straight out at the far post! His second cross went straight to the keeper! I know Sidney can be frustrating but for years we have waited to see a bit of excitement in the team and with excitement at this level comes frustration and Sidney has all that- unplayable some days - wish he didn't play on others. I think what I am trying to say is I'd rather players be involved in the game and make mistakes than not be involved at all I.e. Dayton, Rooney. P.s. who feck told LJ that Rooney was any good? He's gash. Anyone else noticed that Grounds can't open his body up and pass to the left?
  11. and on the topic of new songs i heard today: to the tune of its magic: HE'S GANGSTER YOU KNOOOOWWWW JOHNSTON CLARKE HARRIS SCORES GOALS...............
  12. Firstly, not sure what it what it was but loved it today! Can we play every Sunday? The atmosphere just seemed completely different! Thought it was a great game and a fantastic advert to league 1;2 very good sides with a great contrast in styles. I didn't think Bradford were spectacular but you can see why they hurt teams. If we had a player like Hanson then I am sure we would play exactly the same way. Wes was outstanding and MOM IMO followed closely by Sidney who showed some great touches which turned defence into attack in a second by a CRUYFF or a drop of the shoulder! Great call by LJ to bring PLummer off who was clearly tiring and young MIke who I have heard is well out of his depth was a threat once he came on. JCH made up for his dreadful miss with a " Thunderbuster" which could have broken a hand easily and Philli was classy throughout (need to get him involved more throughout the game). Would like to see Grounds open his body up once he has possession - he only seems to be able to pass to his right and once Mellor came on he was in acres of space numerous times but I suppose he has to demand the ball too. All in all a good point I think - Starting to look a really good side who is difficult to beat, once we find that real nasty streak in front of goal we could be in for a surprise this season.
  13. I thought Rodgers distribution was superb. Thinks very fast on the ball an keeps play ticking at pace. Seems to rub off on others around him
  14. Fantastic game to watch on what I thought would have been the usual Tuesday night match in a nearly empty BP. Top performers philliskirk, Rodgers, JCH and smith. Monty was poor and looked really off the pace! Kick on from this now boys!!!
  15. He was outstanding. I thought he was closely followed by Rodgers who looks a very tidy footballer, they linked up really well. JCH is a right handful too.
  16. Hope your right but I am struggling to see that happening
  17. Nowhere near enough of a threat to be our marksman. I just dont understand what he is there for?The build up play is great but even the decent crosses/balls he is 2ft away from. Think if we can see JCH running in behind we may see a turn in results. Can't fault the performance again tonight. It will come - I think this season may end up well exceeding expectations.
  18. Great summary Prozac. I think most are correct in saying that Derby had the Championship edge on us and it shone through over 90 minutes. Like Saturday Latics started brightly and looked sharp - I would like us to create a few more chances and test the keeper more though when we are on top in this period. Watching the 2 teams you would have thought it was us who had played on Sunday and not them but again I think that is down to Championship fitness and perhaps a bigger squad. Montano didn't look fully fit to me and seemed a little sluggish - might have been an opportunity for Sidney to play? JCH is going to be a handful in League one and I think he and McDonald will be the preferred front 2 in the coming weeks - up to now Rooney hasn't impressed me - yes I understand he isn't fully fit and sharp however if his job is to hold up play, win headers and bring in the midfield I expect him to be doing that on more than 1 or 2 occasions every 10. Saturday I would go with Byrne over Mellor. Simply because Mr Mellor doesn't look like he has enjoyed his last 2 matches one bit and we certainly don't want to kill a player of confidence 2 games in! Extremely postive for the tics over the last 2 games and it's great to see them playing the game the right way - I am confident there will be many more highs than lows this season - Smith is excellent - what a coup he is for League one!! ONwards and upwards bring on Walsall!! P.S any one else thing that Baxter a little over weight??????
  19. Morning all! Hope everyone is having a great summer!!! ( mine has been ok other than the incompatent builders drilling outside my house every morning at 8am! Clearly not respecting that I am in the process of my 6 weeks holidays!! ) Not posted on here for a very long time and I have chosen not to get dragged into any " Latics talk" over the summer. Instead opting to sit back and reserve my " maybe not so correct thoughts " Lack of transfer activity at the club this summer is worrying, however just a bigger shout from the club that we have no money!! PLeased to see the club managed to sign MVoto, Morais and tie Kieran Lee to a new contract. Also heard very good things about Zander ad Matt SMith. I think PD was right to get rid of dead wood...i.e Dean Brill and R.Hazell ( the later who I thought was a very good servant to the club, and I do think as the season goes on, we may miss a certain Mr Hazell.) Seems PD is quite pleased with how pre-season has gone but from his interviews it seems very clear to me that PD isn't expecting too much from his small squad. I think we have a strong enough startin 11 to compete and hold our own in this league, but when I look at the bench, I dont feel to confident at all. I do worry for this team if a few injuries his us and we dont get off to a decent start. August is a big month, a few local derby's and a real chance to get the crowds in and behind us for the season. Conclusion- short but sweet..........I'm hoping Mvoto and Zander stay fit, Matt Smith can get us 12 goals and i'd gladly settle for 17th place! Hope for a bumper crowd tomorrow, lets get behind PD and the boys in blue!! Ciask Lee Mvoto Diamond Black Taylor Lund Furman Reid SMith Morais (is he suspended?) KTF!
  20. Today, my first game in over a year and i'll definitely be going back. Unlucky not to win today. Thouroughly enjoyed the game and thought Latics played some good stuff. Don't think we'll be far off a good season. Kieran Lee is quality.
  21. Centre halfs are there to defend and head a ball, that is paramount. Mvoto did that today. Worrying if you see Jarrett as our playmaker .
  22. How can you say we missed Jarett, our centre half, when we kept a clean sheet?
  23. I doubt they would, Capello ditched his picked on form policy i.e Bent/ Heskey
  24. I think its more concerning that MR Capello has turned to players that weren't considered good enough for the World Cup i.e Zamora,C Cole, Jagielka. The first two both hardly being young blood. IMO, i'd sacrifice the Euros with the hope of building a squad that may be capable of doing something at the next world cup, so for me Terry and his london boy clique (Lampard, J cole, Crouch etc) would be axed. Like someone previously mentioned, they'll all be mid 30's then. Gerrard I would keep invloved, for me he does care for the shirt and does have something to offer to younger inexpericnced talen in the squad. Step forward, Gibbs, Wilshere, Rodwell, Huddlestone, Walcott, Dawson, Carroll, Nouble. P>S Gibbs was probably our best player after Gerrard last night at left back, but my question is;who will start at left back against Bulgaria? We all know.
