  1. Oh right sorry. But what would we give to just know that whatever the weather, we were more likely to see games played. ps 1962/3 was the coldest winter in Britain for 200 years.
  2. Google is your friend. Lots of stuff on there if anyone is in doubt. It was one of the worst winters ever.
  3. Yep you are right. Bert scored 6 The score at half time was 7
  4. I'm digging deep into my memory bank here. Boxing day 1962. Southport at home. Groundsman just ran a roller over the snow, lots of grip for the players studs, so Latics just cracked on. Lines on the snow painted blue, and they played with a brown ball. 7-0 at half time, 11-0 at the end. Bert Lister scored 7. And it's still a club record. If memory serves, it was about minus 10 that day, but of course players weren't fragile pieces of ornaments then. So just ran out with legs smothered in wintergreen ( ask ya dad ) and played football. The good old days. How many on here attended that match ?
  5. OK. So we have had 14 pages to vent our displeasure. I didn't go to the game, but obviously is was bloody awful. The players on show have been called out on here as Chancers, as weak as piss, mentally weak, as having attitude issues, some played out of position, and were just fringe players . I have two main problems about yesterday. First off, the manager showed zero respect to Hendon. We are Oldham athletic not bloody Real madrid. We should have played our best eleven, then if we got 2 or 3 in front, then brought the players on that made a dog's breakfast of the whole game. They should never have been trusted from the start. Double M knows who can, or cannot perform to his standards. Did he not see that his starting eleven could ( and did ) make a complete balls up of it ? So we can all come up with our version of why we failed so miserably. But the top and bottom line is, that a lot of those who played so poorly yesterday, are plain and simply nowhere near good enough as football players, to get us to where we all want to go. I'm sure that double M had lots of things made very clear to him yesterday, how he reacts to that should be very interesting.
  6. I disagree. Most of the players that we are all talking about, are simply not good enough at actually playing football, despite any attitude problems they may have.
  7. Mmmmm, me thinks the team today wasn't good enough to win that game. And they proved it.
  8. Got to agree with BP. Always respect the opposition, whoever they are, and from whatever level of the pyramid. Play your best team first , get 2 or 3 in front THEN take your star men off. No point in waiting until you are up shit creek then bringing them on. Surely they are just as exposed to injuries as the other way round.
  9. I am absolutely convinced that there is a curse on us. Can someone delve into the local achieves. Was the footprint of the ground a former witches graveyard ?. Did there once upon a time used to be lunatic asylum under the main stand ? There is no other logic for us being so crap for so long. Will we have success ever again? Will we continue to stumble from one disaster to another? For most of my 62 years as a fan, I keep saying to myself, ' we have finally reached the bottom of the barrel', but oh no. Something worse is ALWAYS just around the corner. And the latest something was today. Heaven help us.
  10. So Walker having number 28 brings back memories of David Eyers, who if my memory serves was his number when he was here. Lets hope he is as good as him.
  11. Apart from Ward, I don't think that Willoughby has been fit enough to really show us what he can do yet. You can't score the goals he did at Chester without having something about him. Let's give him a proper chance to prove himself.
  12. Nah. She says that sounds like a ballad compared to the one she recalls. Maybe it's 5 to 10 years ago.
  13. My good lady is asking me about a tune with a thumping beat, it was played as the players came out for the second half. Maybe 10 / 15 years ago. Any ideas ?
  14. Mouldy old dough does nowt for me . But the Cannon and Ball song does, and even at 75 years old I still sing it just before the players come out. This season I didn't renew my subs to listen to Roy and the other fellas comedy show. Roy's a lovely bloke, and a great ambassador for the club. However, a football pundit he is not. And with that, we're the boys in blue wu woo woo woo. Happy New year to one and all.
  15. I needed the 2 hour drive home just to calm down, bloody hell that was hard to watch. We could hardly put 2 passes together the whole game, we even threw a throw in straight to them. And what gives with this new tactic of goalkeeper and centre backs playing russian roulette from dead ball situations, pissing about between themselves then wacking it upfield, which the keeper could have done himself in the first place. However we won. And Stone's goal was a cracker. Hudson man of the match, Sutton played well, but in general we were awful. Double M was almost blowing a fuse for most of the game, roaring and gesticulating to our lot. He has probably been on the verge of a heart attack watching that. But 3 points and a win .
  16. Yep. Our manager has handled the situation perfectly, and always says the right things. I'm sure that he will go on to prove that he is the man to take us back to where we belong. He is a class act.
  17. Get rid of him. Does plenty of talking on social media. Yet hardly any with his feet on a football pitch. Typical of lots of modern day footballers, Wants the lifestyle, but not the dedication and hard graft that goes with it.
