  1. Hand on heart, can you recall a 'transfer fee widely reported in the media' coming from a ANY CLUB? The media have no interest in us, apart from a couple of exceptions.
  2. 1 useless pro Corney gimp + 1 useless anti Corney gimp = 2 useless gimps. I doubt there are 6,000 in or out of town who care what happens to our club. But supporting through the turnstiles is the one thing 'all' gimps can do. Not to mention the three or four thousand who have dropped out over the last 10yrs. Looking for the high ground in what appears to be a tricky situation doesn't point us in the right direction nor attract investment, gimp or not.
  3. An effective leader amongst the fans is a well intentioned aim but wouldn't they have already come out of the woodwork? I can't identify one on the forum. No amount of persuasion or leadership from a fans group is going to create investment and successful appointments of manager and players. What would be a start is 6,000 REAL fans supporting the club week in week out, regardless. That's the problem. Even support doesn't guarantee success, there's enough evidence of that. I'm not allowed to use the word 'luck' but I did think we'd had some with Sheridan. The game is is eternally stuffed while the yardstick of support is success and keeping your head above water is is failure.
  4. TTA, to my knowledge, are the only people on the planet who have both interest and capability to keep our club afloat. TTA's failed efforts to challenge for promotion or mid-table in the last few years have resulted in gradually reduced attendances. It is a natural none provocative boycott. It is the diehards who are left and there will be few of those on a social media organized protest. It will be fun and a relief from boredom for many but it won't produce investment or a winning manager or attract anyone who wants to play for Oldham Athletic. To oust a governing body you need a alternative and they're not on the Magic Roundabout.
  5. I don't have a suggestion for manager but the club should have upwards of £50 grand towards the new man's renumeration from compensation. This would be new money which could simply be used to support a better monthly contract for the new man and a addition to the playing budget Sheridan had been offered. Heaven knows how Corney will use it but financially we are in a better position than last week and looking for a manager instead of a perceived threat of administration.
  6. A protest, a boycott. For what end? There are a 'few' people on here mistakenly think 50 disgruntled fans and four banners will attract a substantial investment or introduction of capital into Oldham Athletic football club. You are of course quite delusional. A manager who just recued us from almost certain relegation and also loved the club has left. There has been enough evidence in the last couple of months to suggest the club is in trouble Maybe a march down Sheepfoot Lane by 1200 season ticket holders demanding to give their Brucie Bonus back would be more constructive. Now I'm being delusional.
  7. I've been at dentist but heard two hours ago that deal was done. There is is no point dwelling on what Sheridan would have given us next term - we will never know. My own belief is the playing budget will have been effected by the ST deal. The sales were poor in my view but not unexpected, we were in a hole. Winning the first one was a negative to me as a inducement to jump in. Virtually all interested fans were already in. We must now get behind our club (again) there is no other option for hardcore fans. The time for judging any damage is down the line.
  8. https://youtu.be/Ey/FoAhsH7NQ This is a newly released promotional video for a new Clash of Kings game. It was shot in the old Quarry on Crompton Moor off Buckstones Road, March, April time. A daughter lives in one of the houses close to the quarry and I visited the set. My son-in-law spoke to one of the production crew who told him Schweinsteiger was appearing in the film as King. What we didn't know until seeing the video was the closing scenes with Schweinsteiger on the pitch are shot at BP.
  9. I think the board have grasped the concept the majority of the Football League habitually squander serious amounts of cash on ineffectual managers. Who in turn habitually waste it on underperforming players. If the manager does come up with a gem... well we all know what happens then, it's called balancing the books. Having big ideas doesn't cut the mustard in this game.
  10. Maybe too simplistic but is it not in the betting industry's interest to put any viable name in the frame too attract a fast buck? I'm sticking with Que Sera, Sera. As for Evans - have you seen the size of our dressing rooms?
  11. Listening to the post match interview Sheridan was clear he hadn't spoken to Bolton. But he wouldn't be pinned down with not listening or being interested in any future offers. Any interest in Sheridan would need to be done through the club (recommended due to the length of his contract). The club have stated they have not received any interest in Sheridan nor would they welcome any. If the club did receive an enquiry for him and allowed him to speak to another club, unless specifically a condition of his contract, Sheridan would likely see that as a vote of no confidence. This could then render him happy to speak with another club - hence his honest silence on the subject. The facts as they stand indicate that Sheridan is staying put but obviously open ended for future developments.
  12. Happy days. Could it be done again? Only if it was some ones ambition to fund it. It may have been forgotten but at the end of the inaugural (great escape) Premiership season we had been involved in two of the five highest scoring games. 6-2 v Wimbledon and 5-3 v Nottingham Forest. We won them both. Only 2 teams scored more goals than our 63. Champions, United with 67 and fourth placed Blackburn with 68 But we did have the second worst defence, conceding 74 goals.
  13. That would be tricky but I can debate 'for and against' on almost anything. So here goes: Shez was brought in on a lengthy contract to pull us out of a dire mess. If that, not unsurprisingly, failed he would be the right man to get us back up. Shez was also rolled out in favour of the season ticket initiative while progress was being made on our results. Two or three home wins in the deal should have easily been identified as a prerequisite to survival. It has been proven since that survival was the intension. Personally, I would be shocked and dismayed if the cost or a good part of the ST deal has not been identified or underwritten in some way. Surly the playing budget for next season would have been ring-fenced. There has been too much put into the last 4 months for such a monumental cockup. I would also be dismayed if Sheridan fancied the Bolton job.
  14. Meanwhile: He is watching die-hard fans collecting 'thier' Brucie bonus. Possibly out of 'his' summer playing budget.
  15. I'm on Costa patrol - nothing yet but will keep you all posted.
  16. For once another season in L1 seems like we've won something. All credit to the squad and management. No other L1 team have bettered our 6 wins in the last 10 Home and dry with 2 games to spare is extraordinary from where we were. Brilliant!
  17. I can imagine you on your own at the window? If so, what justifiable reason did they give for not being able to process it for you, taking into account your circumstances?
  18. We've got 3 match points on our own serve after coming back from 2 sets down and 5-0 down in the third set. We were almost out for the count. I don't imagine anyone better suited than John Sheridan for getting our club out of the hole we were in. An out of contract experienced defender, 4 unknown to most of us loanees who transformed us throughout the side. And not forgetting the excellent Peter Shirtliff as defensive coach. Almost there.
  19. Just so. It's amazing 3 month contracts haven't caught on. Kelly, could have been a winner.
  20. Very sorry to see the superb Matty Palmer go but without him and Holloway it could be an opportunity to appreciate just how much the whole squad have improved during the last 3 months.
  21. Strangely there has been no official statement on how well the last giveaway went. We know it went well for the fans who were willing/able to support it. Personally I can't see a profit in another £100 giveaway.
  22. I fully accept your apology and must accept some responsibility for the way I put some of my observations across. Certainly far worse things are said and intimated on the forum. We are all wired differently and it's nice to see common sense and civility prevail. On with the cause.
  23. Apologies to those who are bored and need to read every post but... Season Tickets for 2016-2017 are still being sold. With less than 600 posts in 7years I would hardly be in line for gong for banter. Without challenging any comments on this thread the £150,000 figure is related to fans concerns for the financial welfare of the club. It came about after a club announcement that over 1,000 ST's had been sold. A potential payout to the club was placed at 1,000 adults. We can all agree that was never going to happen, even without any facts. We don't know how many further sales were made before the last match against Swindon. But if it was a substantial number of sales (I personally doubt) the payout by the club could indeed approach £150,000 or beyond. However, this scenario would also indicate a much higher level of income than the 1,000 sales mark thus reducing the financial impact of the £150,000 it would cost the club. Enjoy todays game and especiallyFleetwood next week.
  24. I'm contributing to the discussion without blasphemy or swearing: Number of disabled tickets; undisclosed. Number of senior tickets; undisclosed. Number of junior tickets; undisclosed. Number of adult tickets; undisclosed Total number of tickets sold undisclosed. By all means stick like glue to the £150,000 based on the only fact we have, 1,000 tickets. But allow someone to challenge you for a few facts without getting shirty.
