I was about to suggest exactly the same thing - the club could use a proper reporter on their staff, someone who'd be able to advise them on how to handle the up to now really poor club communications. He'd be a great link between club and supporters.

Terrible news - very sad to hear this. I hope all involved get fixed up with work elsewhere as soon as possible.

I am guessing that when Shez said he wanted five or six new players he was talking about targets he wanted to sign himself - and is now miffed as we were under embargo, and I reckon he's blaming interference for that, which has set his season back. Combine that with poor results, and snarky remarks from Corney about the results - and you've a perfect little storm.

I don't disagree with that - but some managers are more accepting of that than others.

Cos Placide isn't his signing, he's not happy with signings being made by others at the club, he doesn't rate Placide, and is fighting a bit of a battle internally at the club. That's my guess.

They generally just report what the players and manager have to say - which is usually positive.

As far as Latics are concerned I think that couldn't be further from the truth - I'd say 98 per cent of what they report on Latics has a positive spin.

Ultimately, the problem is that there's no ready solution. --- Supporters meeting and questioning Corney hasn't changed anything (I respect and am grateful to the supporters though). --- We have a popular manager with experience but the team isn't performing. --- Nobody wants to buy in and save us. --- Any glimmer of hope we've had in decades has been crapped on swiftly. It's soul destroying but I'll still support Latics. I must need my head examined.

There's no doubt in my mind - he'd be great for us for a season or two. I fear there are too many other clubs in for him though. In the Championship and abroad. I'd hope we try to tempt him with a coaching offer.

I can confirm - 100 per cent - that Shay Given has been in talks with Latics regarding a potential move to us. We're not the only club he's talking to, and he hasn't made a decision yet - but there has been contact between club and player.

It's amusing how quickly we've been doomed after the relative optimism of the summer... I've been a pessimist ever since Mark Hughes did what he did - but I'm still thinking we're probably going to do okay this season. Saturday's defeat may ultimately help ground the team and lower inflated expectations. The season is only one match old. Long way to go.

Given has been quoted recently talking about his coaching ambitions - but says he's concerned that there aren't many job opportunities available. He has a UEFA A coaching licence.

Given has been training with Macclesfield. He's planning a move into coaching. I'd be delighted if we got a season out of him.
