  1. They'd get five million from me, as long as they gave me a 90 minute run-out in centre midfield once promotion had been achieved
  2. Yeah, you're right... I should stick to the true, boring stuff. Hey guys, Boundary Park is a three sided stadium! And I've also heard that we plan to play ten outfield players with a goalkeeper between the posts next season. Over to you RoyleArmy!
  3. Exactly... He's having a bit of a jog with our team to keep the fitness up. No quotes to say "it's my dream to play at Latics with Scholes" or anything like that. Nice to have him around the team though, I'd imagine it would be a bit of excitement for the younger players and can only be a good thing.
  4. This was sent to me by a sport journalist friend of mine... Former Liverpool star Harry Kewell is training with League One Oldham.<QA1> The Australian winger is without a club having failed to agree a new deal with Turkish giants Galatasaray.<QA1> Kewell, 31, is keen to return to England and is going through pre-season training with the Latics in a bid to keep in shape.<QA1> He is friends with Oldham's new boss Paul Dickov, who has allowed him to get fit with his squad.<QA1> The Australian endured a miserable World Cup which included a red card in the draw with Ghana.<QA1> And now he is desperate to get fixed up with a new club. Galatasaray are still interested in keeping Kewell but have only offered him a one-year deal.<QA1> He is looking for a two-year contract and is now willing to move back to England to spend more time with actress wife Sheree Murphy.<QA1> ENDS
  5. Wasn't he England Under 21 goalkeeper at some stage? Either way, a good addition to the set-up I reckon.
  6. The club must be making a fortune on the shirts - as pointed out earlier here the quality has gone down but the price remains the same... It's the sort of thing that makes us supporters rightly feel like we're being taken advantage of - but surely the club could make more money, sell more tickets, and sell more shirts, if they looked after us. In other words, if the club invest a bit more money with Umbro or some such company, they'll sell more shirts which will make up for the extra cash they have to fork out on manufacture = everybody happy. Alas, such simple logic is overlooked.
  7. The kit quality compared to the price is a shocker, yet I suppose it's people like me who are part of the problem cos I try to resist the temptation to buy a new shirt when it comes out but always end up handing over the cash. I've managed to resist with the new home shirt so far though...
  8. It's all good PR - but it's all good. The club will make no secret out of how they simply want to sell more tickets - that's business - and if schmoozing the fans is the way they're going to do it, then I'm happy to be schmoozed.
  9. It's actually hilarious how the club have managed to make a mess of announcing the new manager. Basically, they were scooped on their own scoop and will continue to look a bit silly until some time next week.
  10. Not happy, not unhappy. It's unchartered water's we're heading into. Hopfully, this time next season I'll be saying I'm very happy indeed.
  11. This will really test the metal of the Chron sport hacks now... There is a name there to be revealed, and they've the rest of the week to (try to) reveal it...
  12. Didn't Darren Sheridan headbut an iron bar holding up the subs bench once? That's pretty hard - or stupid...
  13. Not a bad list, could be worse I reckon... I hope Gannon gets it.
  14. Butt would be a bit of a gamble to say the least... I think we will be on thin ice next season and experience is needed. Gannon's the man I reckon.
  15. Yeah... my mate says he's just seen it on one of the newswire feeds in which lots of reports and speculation come through every minute - there's no direct source for it other than that it is on the newswire itself, and nobody is quoted in it. Thought it would be worth putting it out there though.
  16. Sorry if this has been around already, but my sport reporter friend tells me that Iain Dowie's planning a swoop for Dale Stephens if he keeps his job at Hull City. He watched him when we lost to Charlton apparently...
  17. I think it's going to be Gannon... I love Ritchie - but am not a fan of previous managers/heros returning.
  18. Had to happen. I hope now all the supporters who insisted they would turn their back on the club as long as he was there do a full u-turn and support the club through next season.
  19. I have to agree with that - and to be honest I would settle for the same finishing position in the table next season when I fear we'll be even closer to relegation than this one. As for the manner in which it has been achieved - I suppose that I might be lucky in that regard because I work in Dublin and didn't get to see most of the performances. Speaking of which - when I went over for a match that was called off due to a frozen pitch, me and my mates met Mike outside the ground and he was a gent. He made sure we got a bite to eat and got to meet some of the players etc which salvaged something from the trip, and I think he's a top bloke
