  1. The injury time - when announced - is a huge psychological factor. We should have had more time. But we also should have had a penalty.
  2. There's plenty to be proud of. I didn't need a reminder of why I love and support Latics - but if I did need a reminder, thus cup run has been it. I've celebrated goals in this cup run with more uncontrolled joy than seeing me country score in World Cups. We might be in a constant fight, a struggle, we might often battle against ourselves more than anyone else. But I'd rather be us then one of those big rich bunches of "match day experience" :censored:e. There's no real heroes there. There's no real glory. There's certainly no real football. It might be pretty in the premiership - but I couldn't care less for it. In my opinion it's nothing more than pantomime. Oldham 'till I die. Now lads - three points next league match please. More effort, more heart, more passion - and more giving everything for a great club.
  3. Odd comment by Simon. Maybe I'm taking it too literally - but he seems to be saying he'll leave TP in charge until we start losing again, then it's manager hunt time again. He can hardly be saying to prospective managers "yes, there's a job up for grabs, but you have to wait until we start losing".
  4. Really satisfying three points - but we have to continue to build on this and pull clear. This is one season when I'll be happy with mid/lowermid-table.
  5. I fail to see any benefit in repeatedly putting out PR that we're skint.
  6. I'll be heading over to Boundary Park from Dublin for a match in April, if all goes to plan - and if Matt Smith scores during it I'll happily walk down to the pitch and throw my jersey at him.
  7. If Smith is fined - and I find it almost impossible to consider that he would be - then the national press would have a field day. I know we are stuck for cash - but I am starting to get irritated by how the club seem to be using this point for PR. Push it much further and we won't be the plucky underdog - we will be the laughing stock. Note to Simon - try to keep the cringe inducing team notices away from TV cameras in future.
  8. It's amazing how many reports are saying we "dismissed" Dickov.
  9. In twenty years time we'll all remember him with iconic status for what he has done over the past month. That alone merits a two year deal - and I doubt we'll be blowing a fortune on him, his goals have paid for a two year deal many many many times over. When I buy a Latics jersey, I haven't had a name and number put on one since Richie's playing days. But I'm going to buy a home jersey with Smith's name and number on it as his goals have been the best boost we've had in years. I know it has been an incredible team effort all the way - but that header and strength on 94th minute... Glorious. Let's see that form transformed in the league too, and keep us the hell away from league two.
  10. He was outstanding - and I'm quite sure it was a pass, not a shot.
  11. I've mixed feelings about drawing Wigan - bottom line though is that I won't give it much thought until we beat Everton!
  12. It's like wanting to get back with the lovely girl that you had an amicable breakup with - there is a yearning there, but it's not a good idea. Best to move on.
  13. All of the above sums it up for me perfectly. I'm lost for words now - but this is what real football is all about. I love Oldham Athletic.
  14. I really enjoyed reading that. Great stuff, great memories.
  15. I get the feeling - based on not very much at all - that we could have our new manager today.
  16. Shoddy headline on that Telegraph piece - getting a name wrong.
  17. In my opinion, I wouldn't say a press backlash even comes into the thought process on this one. I'm not sure that there would be much of a backlash, and even if there was I don't think it would damage the club or SC. The Dickov to be sacked line was an easy one for the papers to go for today - but anyone who looked at our recent results would say the manager was facing the axe. In a way, the papers were just stating the obvious but it just looked better on a backpage in light of the giantkilling. In other words, it'd catch the attention of anybody who doesn't have the remotest idea of what's been happening at Boundary park for about five minutes.
  18. I had €20 on Latics to win at 10/1 - I'm still happier about the win than the cash though, a great great day.
  19. I hope the thousands of people who went to today's match - because of who we were playing - bother their arses heading to Boundary Park again in the coming days and weeks. It is the supporters who attend week in week out that are the heart and soul of the club. Today, I'm happiest for them.
  20. Glorious - best result in many many years.
  21. A true Latics legend and a gentleman. All the best Alan. Thanks for everything you've done.
