  1. I agree - a match made in heaven... though I would be happier if he went somewhere even further away from Oldham.
  2. I'm from Galway in Ireland and living in Dublin so as a match always involves a long journey for me, a move to Failsworth won't affect me personally. Having said that, it might be old fashioned now but I always loved the idea of football grounds being as close to the centre of the area they represent as possible. Also old fashioned, I love tradition and would always want to see my team play on the same spot where generations of highs and lows happens. Sadly, these days those things are seemingly impossible to hang on to for a litany of reasons. Right now, what matters to me most is the survival of the club. If a move to Failsworth is the best thing fir the club - a big if as everything seems to be risk-ridden these days - then so be it. No matter what though, I'll still be making my trips to see Latics even if they're playing in someone's back garden with jumpers for goalposts. I don't expect a pat on the back for that, I just think if you support a club, and have a few quid to spare to see them play, then that's exactly what you should do. And the club you support should be one you have a real connection to, not one you like because they win all the time, are always on Sky Sports, and have billions to burn.
  3. The beauty of this result is not just three points in the bag, but also the boost and confidence it should bring to the team. Great stuff.
  4. I get the feeling that this whole process has aged every Latics fan a few years and more than a few grey hairs. At this rate, we'll have a nice new home for our football club (be it in Failsworth, Boundary Park or space) by the year 2098.
  5. Have a safe journey, and enjoy the match - Not only is it great that there is a new atmosphere of optimism, but it's great that the new atmosphere of optimism is being noticed! Long may it last. I hope the lads bag three points for you (or nine if you get to three matches).
  6. Yup, if you are annoying people - as in opposition players, fans, managers etc - then I think that you're doing something right, otherwise they wouldn't bother their behinds being annoyed. Let's hope there are plenty more who consider Dickov a **** in the months and (hopfully) successful years ahead.
  7. I've been hoping that we'd get one great season out of him, he'd bag loads of goals, then we'd sell him for lots and lots of cash... It's a pity if he's gone at this stage.
  8. Dickov doesn't look so tiny if you imagine that he is holding the players up by the back of their necks.
  9. Not quite as camp as Paul 'Bruno' Dickov in this picture from the Sky website (as posted by me on another thread). Camp as a bag of boyscouts. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12875_6292489,00.html
  10. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12875_6292489,00.html Given how camp he looks in the pic in the link above, he'll be lucky if he's not called Bruno...
  11. Yeah - but Cork City were in the top-flight Irish league... My point is that I would have expected that a top flight Irish league team would have snapped him up by now if he was any good. Crumlin United are non-league here. It's entirely possible the bigger Irish clubs all missed him, in which case their loss is Latics gain.
  12. I'm stunned that Kelly's been given the number 9 shirt to be honest - though best of luck to him... I don't think there's ever been a previous example of a player in mid twenties going from non-league Irish football to first team league football in England... If it works, he'll be a brilliant find that zillions of other clubs - including lots of Irish ones - missed.
  13. I think this is a bit of a shot in the dark. If it works out it will be a stroke of genius as the bigger Irish teams are always keeping an eye on the smaller clubs (like Crumlin United) for talent, and it looks like they've overlooked this lad so far. Though it has happened before - Robbie Keane went from Crumlin United to Wolves and he hasn't done so badly! Having said that, Robbie was in his teens when he made the move, not 24. As I'm Irish myself I'll be hoping this lad does well. Good luck Dean!
  14. From reading other posts about friendly performances - particularly last night - I get the impression that this team is developing a good/great attitude and work ethic. We don't need a player to come in who could potentially upset that even if he does score 30 goals a season. Plus, chances are he'd move to another club after his 'rehabilitation' with us, and we'd have to rebuild again. So in my opinion we'd be better off without him.
  15. He's picked up quite a few airmiles over his career hasn't he? New Zealand, Oldham, Glasgow, Middlesbrough, South Africa, China...
  16. I swear I'm not making this up - though maybe someone else is... It's another report from a newswire forwarded to me by my journalist mate. FORMER Celtic striker Chris Killen has joined the Chinese Super League side Shenzhen Ruby FC on a two-year contract. New Zealand international Killen left Parkhead in January to join Middlesbrough on a short-term deal. Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan decided not to offer him a long-term contract even though Killen scored six goals in 17 appearances for the club. Killen, who started all three of New Zealand’s games at the World Cup Finals, has joined-up with his international team-mate, Ivan Vicelich at Ruby. ENDS
  17. First impressions for me are that I don't like it... Too white for me, and looks a bit cheap - plus I fear it would fall apart after a month.
  18. Yeah, I agree with original post - The Tics sounds like we're a bunch of tiny bugs that give dogs an itch.
  19. 40,000 vuvuzelas going off at once may sound impressive, 6 going off randomly is just annoying.
  20. I'm betting it's poor quality but expensive...
  21. I'm confused now - I think I need a cool glass of water and a lie-down.
