  1. Ace shirt. I'll get one if there's any left come payday. Brilliant idea to bring it out - it should be followed up with more shirts and splashed over the official website.
  2. That piece sums up why I love football - and have never liked, and never will like, celebrity.
  3. "If we manage to pull off one of them it will be a fantastic signing for the club." I know we're stuck for money, but I didn't think we'd be reduced to doing this to get players here... I mean, surely we should leave that to the players wags...
  4. True... I think they should probably stick to the golf. Didn't Northern Ireland have one of the longest runs without a goal in the history of international football not so long ago?
  5. Seriously though, how stuck for strikers must Northern Ireland be?
  6. I'm Irish - and I hate Celtic and Rangers equally. And on Zander - if he signs, how about a chant to the tune of the Pink Floyd song: "Zander you craaaaa-zy Diamond..."
  7. Yup, I'm Irish and based in Dublin - my grandfather was from Oldham and I've inherited his love for Latics via my dad. I even saw Latics play in Ireland once - went to see them play Cobh Ramblers in Cork in a pre-season friendly. Last time I went to Boundary Park the bloody match was called off because of a frozen pitch. It was frozen in a part that was in the shadow of a stand (which my friend unhelpfully suggested we should "knock down like we did with the other one").
  8. We should have made contact with him at some point in the past two years - and didn't. It would have cost us nothing to make contact. We had nothing to lose by making contact. It is disappointing to say the least that we didn't give it a shot.
  9. If he doesn't start the season with a bagful of goals I'd reckon that's his career - international and otherwise - down the tubes. So it is in his interest to get his act together - not just the club's. I'd say the final verdict on him (for those who haven't already decided he's a waste of time) will be delivered after three games of next season.
  10. Best wishes to Alan - as said before, Latics through and through.
  11. The problem I'd have with having him back is that he'd simply be using us as a place to kick a ball until somewhere better came along, again.
  12. Cripes - some of those old shirts go for megabucks... I must have hundreds of quids worth of kit in my wardrobe.
  13. They were so bad they're still really popular - I saw one go on sale on ebay a while back and it started a massive bidding war.
  14. This is from a sport journalist friend of mine... "Chelsea striker Daniel Philliskirk,20, who joined Sheffield United on a four month loan in January will sign for the side in a permanent deal this summer."
  15. Ace footage - especially for exiles like me who can't get to matches as often as we would like, really captures the fun and thrills of a goal.
  16. Wasn't it the case that we couldn't pay wages because development investors got jittery? This statement looks like it's designed to make 'em less jittery and more inclined to give us cash, which we can use to pay the players. Or I'm probably thinking about it too much and it's just a statement saying exactly what it says.
  17. Personally, I hate the phrase "matchday experience"... It reeks of being a marketing term to try and get more cash of supporters. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer the whole idea of going to see a football match rather than any "matchday experience"... If I'm looking for extra comfort I'll bring a pair of gloves or maybe a scarf.
  18. I believe we were supposed to be signing one Robert Bayly, released by Shamrock Rovers, who allegedly has been in scraps with very dodgy chaps outside nightclubs...
  19. I'm a latics fan from Ireland and I'll take a non-league player from anywhere if they can do a job for latics - even if that job is the one of a player who must put regular first team starters under a bit of pressure. I'm delighted with Dean's progress and attitude. However I do think that, generally speaking, it is a sad reflection on the game how players are praised by supporters for having a good attitude. I'm probably being too idealistic but I think they should all have a good attitude because most of us would love to be doing what they're doing. Anyway, I hope Dean continues on the right road. I'm always proud to see an Irish latic do well.
