  1. I'm taking that fantastic win tonight as three points gained on Dale and Hartlepool. I think Chesterfield are uncatchable now, being fifteen points ahead, so those two teams are the ones I want to see plummet.
  2. Will Lundstrum be on the bench? It's like watching a kettle and waiting for it to boil.
  3. Away form under Unsworth, not Thompson, that has yet to be seen but the indicators are looking positive. Norwood should terrorise their defence and when Reid comes on, he should rip them a new one. I know, it's football.
  4. Thompson seemed to concede that the opposition will have their period of control in the game and best for Latics to maintain shape and not chase the ball too much. It's not possible to dominate for the full game, unless your team is the likes of Real Madrid etc. Unsworth's much touted pre-season fitness regime was apparently not all he made it out to be but I think you have a point with a few of the signings not appearing to be match fit.
  5. Putting the Thompson debate to one side, you do realise that Latics were, and still could be, in the same shit as those teams you mention above, possibly even worse, if both games were drawn or lost? True, the next three games could and should be winnable, we will have to wait and see but I wouldn't class the fans who have witnessed a positive transformation and are enthusing about the man who has done this, ones who "howl at the Moon". I am sure the board will do a thorough job of recruitment this time, in fear of being bit on the ass again and for their own reputation and self esteem. However, there are no guarantees in football so we will have to sit tight, meanwhile, Thompson/Redfearn have a huge task on their hands and I hope they can continue improving the squad.
  6. The 'Unsworth Fear' of throwing away leads to sudden collapses and late goals will take a bit of time to shift from the memory. I think a sustained run of wins, some draws and very few defeats would probably banish it to ancient history. We are just at the beginning, yet again and hopefully we have the 'bouncebackability'.
  7. He looks to me as if he is trying very hard to be modest about the two results and mentions Unsworth to temper his obvious desire to blurt out the "truth" and possibly protect Unsworth from harsh criticism. Unsworth will, no doubt, be looking at the results since he left and maybe even watching the post-match interview..or he may have cut the club out completely..who knows? Thompson seems affable and knowledgeable, his tangled family-history with the club certainly assumes a sense of belonging on some level. If he doesn't become manager then hopefully he keeps a role within the set-up as he appears to be a positive influence.
  8. Hopefully this is sarcasm, if not, you should be banned from the board. Given Oxford City's unbeaten run, scoring fifteen goals along the way, how confident do we think they were, coming to BP? I would say they thought they were in with a good shout of a point at least, if not a win. The immediate press and goal on 14 mins probably knocked a good bit of wind out of them. Too much fucking dissecting of the games. Latics scored four, I could not give a flying fuck if they all came in the last minute or even injury time. Four is four, with no reply and each goal should be celebrated and enjoyed by the fans, ffs! The game starts and finishes with the whistle, anything between is part of the game. Humiliate the opponent as much as possible and other teams will take notice.
  9. We're probably still partly under the shadow of Unsworth's team set-up and performances, it's going to take a while until confidence from the fans returns. Many are seeing Shelton as step back from what is trying to be achieved and he has become a scapegoat to some extent. Why boo your own player? I think we can all see how it will pan out for him once Lundstrum is back in the side.
  10. Extremely chuffed with the win, really glad Norwood got on the scoresheet [he needed to score and he did] and let's not forget, we ended their unbeaten run and they didn't score, after scoring fifteen goals on that run. I'm not getting carried away, it's going to be tough to try and catch the pack at the top because not every game is going to go our way and if Shelton got booed today, well, it kind of undermines the feelgood factor and the other players certainly won't appreciate it. The crapper for me today was Rochdale getting the last gasp win. **Edit** Official report doesn't even mention Shelton coming on for Gardner.
  11. Looks to me like Oxford City are finding their feet now in this league and Latics are now looking to find their own with a new [albeit maybe temporary] manager's style of play. With Unsworth at the helm, I would have no confidence whatsoever of a win and Thompson at least gives us that fighting chance, with some entertaining football thrown in. He will probably stick with the winning line-up from midweek, Lundstrum hopefully is on the bench and gets some match time, Norwood comes on at some point to scare the shit out of them and Nuttall, Willoughby and Reid have a say in it too.
  12. The atmosphere from the old Chaddy and the view from the Rochdale Rd end would be the perfect mix. At least the club is trying something to help and if it doesn't work then it as you are. Sat in the Chaddy many a time and watched a distant goalmouth mêlée only to realise Latics scored when the Rochdale stand erupted. It's special.
  13. Support will undoubtedly play a large part on Tuesday as Thompson will not be able to turn it around with a day or two of training..or even a week's worth. I'm stating the bleedin' obvious. I know.
  14. I think that may not come immediately but, there may be more bums on seats than there would have been and hopefully some good vocal support to spur on a much needed win.
  15. Has anyone thought about the players who Unsworth wanted to offload? Will they still be unwanted, maybe get another chance or is further recruitment still on the cards, once the incumbent is in place? It's going to interesting when Lundstrum gets back on the pitch under a new manager.
  16. Contrary to my earlier predictions of him staying, I feel you may be right and something is going to happen on Monday, if not tomorrow.
  17. It's the personal and derogatory tone of your posts which is causing a backlash. Makes no odds to me, say what you want..it's a forum.
  18. Is "He's gone" a statement regarding his demeanour or his status within the club? Nothing official to say he has left the club..yet.
  19. I'm on the Tanqueray..neat with ice! Mr Unsworth is probably hitting the bottle tonight as well.
  20. The one where he says "I quit"? Sounds like an episode of 'Friends'.
