  1. Thought we played well in the first-half and looked comfortably the better team. We were under the cosh a bit in the second-half until we scored our second, and from then on thought we'd be comfortable... until Coke inexplicably gave away a free-kick on the edge of our area and handed them the initiative. We were hanging on (panicking?) a bit after that really, but dug in quite well. Seemed able to handle their big lump up front quite easily until they brought on a second big lump and then we started to struggle. Suspect that's why Bunn brought Graham on - for a bit of extra height. Thought that was strange at the time, but in hindsight he did okay. Hunt struggled a bit after moving to the right-wing, though. The Miller substituton made sense as he offered something defensively from corners and free-kicks which  Baxter or Lang wouldn't have. His goal was a bonus.

The centre-halves, Taylor, Surridge and O'Grady were the picks of the bunch for me. Gardner was solid, but had his work cut out as Coke was quite poor again. Iversen concerns me a bit. He's a good shot-stopper, but he doesn't command his area at all. At 6'4'' he should really be coming and claiming crosses and corners but he seems rooted to his line which just invites pressure. Definitely something for him/Rhodes to work on.

All-in-all though, a decent performance, albeit against a pretty mediocre Macclesfield team. Good to get three points on the board, and pleased for Frankie to get his first win as a manager - he certainly seems to have the players behind him. Win one of the next two, and it's not a bad start, all things considered. Onwards and upwards!

But doesn’t a capital injection from the owner count as ‘revenue’ with regards to SCMP?

Honestly not trying to be provocative here by the way.

Again you are right.  As long as it isn’t repayable.

I think the point here though in his statement is the fact he’s had to stump up more money than expected paying creditors that weren’t declared by the previous regime.

Personally, the jury is out for me regarding AL.  He does some strange things.  But, maybe, just maybe, once the swamp is drained, he will invest more capital.

Indeed. Don't think he really needs to justify not investing an unsustainable amount of capital to get around the salary cap.

His point is that to get the club's finances to a more sustainable level, the wage bill had to be slashed. He's using the EFL's guidance (55% of turnover) as a barometer for the size of wage bill that is sustainable for a club like ours. That seems perfectly rational to me.

    I’ll get shot down, but...

Seems disingenuous to cite FFP regulations as the reason for slashing the wage budget. They don’t apply at our level.

Not the same regulations as for the Premier League/Championship, no. But there are still financial fair play regulations.

In Leagues One and Two these come under the 'Salary Cost Management Protocol', or SCMP (catchy). In effect, a club in League Two is limited to spending a maximum of 55% of turnover on wages, and there are sanctions for clubs which breach the regulations. On League One this is 60%.

Further information can be found in Appendix 5 of the EFL Rules and Regulations, if you're interested. Entitled? ..."Financial Fair Play Regulations".

(Suspect you knew that already, though)

Strange choice of words from Wellens post match:

“We had to play him (Benyu) because Fane is not available,” he said. “In terms of central midfield players, he was the only one available at the club”

If Fane was injured then Wellens would have used words indicating as much. ?

What's happened to Omrani and Maouche...?

I desperately want to be wrong, and maybe I’m just preparing for the worst.

But I still think we are done for.

    3 reasons.

    1. We are limping over the line, and desperation has kicked in.

    2. Dale are on a good run, and momentum is everything at this stage.

    3. Mentality.  Hill will be saying ‘what have you have got to lose?’ Ritchie will be saying, you don’t deserve to go down - just relax. One is hungry, one is complacent.

They've got 7 points from their last 7 games, having played five of them at home... interesting definition of momentum.

We had a good run of form, we are now in a not so great run of form. That's football!

Form since the start of February really isn't that bad... 18 points from 12 league games; only 2 defeats. Replicate that over the season and that's 69 points. Though admittedly performances haven't been anywhere near the levels when Wellens first took over.

I think it'd be very unfair to sack him if we stayed up, especially given where we started from.

Yes they are....they showed that Scunthope scored a third goal

They also conclusively show that grass is green and that we play in blue.

...like your point, however, neither of those things is relevant to my query about whether Duane Holmes was in an offside position.

No 3rd was ok. When Dumi tackled their guy it could have bounced anywhere but it went straight to their guy stood just onside and in ocean's of space.

Hope Wellens learns from today,  Don't know why he changed our midfield shape with Omrani but if didn't work.

Actually I meant later in the move. The ball comes in from Morris, their forward gets a touch on it and then it goes through to Holmes who puts it in... and who I thought at the time was offside - highlights aren't exactly conclusive though unfortunately!

  9. First 40 minutes we were really poor. Next 50 we were alright, and a bit unlucky at the end not to draw.

Doyle had a poor game - should/could have scored two or three. Byrne was good second-half, Dummigan played well. Clarke completely at fault for their second, but made it up for it by scoring our first.

Didn't think Ruddy could do a lot with their goals, and was (one drop aside) fairly solid otherwise. Was the third offside?

Had to come to an end at some point - at least it was entertaining!

So what's Ruddy done wrong exactly?

yes Wilson was shit, we replaced him. The elephant in the room remains, the fact that Clarke's legs have gone. He was awesome last season but Ripley was digging him out of the shit every week. This year he looks every bit the old man. He was awful for that second goal yestday but people focus on a kid in goal that looks decent and whether Gerrard is overweight or not. The problem in defence is our captain. Edmundson hasn't great either but he gets some slack he's a kid. I'd bring Stott in once he's fit.

I'd say it was the other way round on many occasions...
