  1. Wish it was a more interesting story but they dropped it when they got promoted to the football league. One for the doommongers: wonder whether we can pick it up where they left in a couple of years?
  2. I agree with everything you say but can I please be there when you tell Sol this? He was, of course, one of the greatest footballers in the world.
  3. Haha sorry rudemedic you beat me to it. I started typing before I saw you’d already replied. Least it looks like we’re on the same page though!
  4. Is that the case? As I read the EFL regs they prevent someone having an interest in two football clubs. The definition of ”football club” includes clubs all the way down to the Northern Premier League.
  5. Except with the prior written consent of the Board a person, or any associate of that person, who is interested in a Club cannot at the same time be interested in any other football club. The rules extend to “any associate” (Mrs S) so that cunning plan wouldn’t work for him. You'd think he would have had all this planned if he’s been interested in getting into management for some time. Perhaps taking the job with the “prior written consent of the [EFL] Board” that he can do it if he commits to disposing of his interest in Salford within a certain timeframe? Speculation...
  6. So was Joe (second time around) but I agree: if it is happening then you’d think it’s only going to be when AL is there for a photo op.
  7. Think Missilou has had more than three good games but, in any event, is the difference between them at this stage that since he’s found his feet Missilou has been performing consistently whereas Maouche has been less so? Not that I’m actually being critical of Maouche because I think he’s played well in a good few games.
  8. Who do we have at the moment? Making the big assumption that all the foreign lads were signed by AL (which is an assumption but one I think we have to make - none of Sheridan, Wellens or Bunn are known for their scouting of the French 4th division): Maouche - doesn’t look like he’s worth what we’re reported to be paying him (he’s no Christian Colusso) and he has blown a little hot and cold but seems a more than adequate player at this level and when he’s been on form he’s looked very good Missilou - superb Nepomuceno - decent cross, good going forward when played on the wing, not a bad reserve full back, good signing Sylla - too early to say Branger-Engone - has some skills, and a left foot (right one still to be located), I’m happy to be proved wrong in time but I’m not at all convinced, just doesn’t seem to fit into the team De la Paz - exists I agree - no duds on that list (personally I’d probably count Branger-Engone because he frustrates me so much but I accept that won’t be a widely held view).
  9. There’s some other parts of the website that could probably also do with updating... 10. At least the opportunity to welcome back our best midfielder of the last 25 years should put an extra few thousand on the gate.
  11. Before the Southend game Wellens was looking like he might have been about to lead us on a Huddersfield style unbeaten run. ?
  12. I was originally thinking it was just one example (very, very low down the list) of the muddled thinking and lack of direction that we’ve been suffering from over the last couple of months. Others might have included constantly lumping the ball up to bounce off Craig Davies, Jack Byrne incessantly charging towards the ball like the most talented nine year old in the school and insisting it’s passed to him regardless of where he and his teammates are on the pitch, the team generally playing with no width whatsoever, or our inability to shoot without taking ten touches inside an opponent’s penalty area, but they’ve been covered elsewhere and the towels just amused me tonight. But now you mention it, yeah, 100% cotton might have done it.
  13. Thoroughly awful all round tonight. Even the towels were embarrassing. Did no-one in the dressing room really see that happening when they put them out on only half the pitch?!?
  14. Walsall away at Fleetwood on the last day. Shez could keep us up for a third year in a row. Unlikely though, as we need to get some points for that to happen.
  15. Does he play on the left? Does anyone play on the left or right? The lack of width yesterday was so frustrating at times, particularly in the first half. The first instinct of the entire midfield was to come central and collect the ball to feet and there were times yesterday in the first half when Gardner, McEleney and Pringle were all in the middle of the pitch. One of them would get the ball and look up to find no options anywhere. It was fine playing short passes and threading the ball through earlier in the season but we’re now out of that form and it doesn’t seem possible anyway given how the pitch has cut up. Having said that, it does seem difficult to get any width into this team with the players available (particularly as I’d play Fane, Gardner and Byrne as a central three). Perhaps 3-5-2 with Hunt and Moimbe pushing forward or 4-3-3 with two of the front three pushed wider?
  16. Apart from one beauty of a ball inside the full back for (I think) Menig. Hunt is an interesting one. Can’t put my finger on what he brings to the team but I wouldn’t suggest replacing him because it seems that he does a job. He’s all arms and legs and rarely looks fully in control of the ball. Is he a League One standard version of Connor Brown?
  17. Must be a difficult decision for Clark to comprehend. Bury were unbeaten in over 48 hours when they sacked him.
  18. Surely Jordan Bove got at least 100% against Notts County?
  19. Agree. Thought they were pretty solid and you can see why they’d conceded only 11 in 15 before today but once we got into the game we were more than a match for them. With the team as it is now it looks like we’ll play well and entertain but possibly won’t kick on to the top end of the table because we’re still liable to draw and lose too many games because of the number of goals we give away. Also wonder what Dummigan and Hunt thought for the first half hour today. They’ll have a lot of tough afternoons this season if opponents realise it’s so easy to double up and overlap because of the lack of support they get from midfield. Having said all that, I’d rather watch this football than anything we’ve had in the last decade.
  20. Credit to Wellens for the substitution last night as well. On the face of it a defensive move when we were 1-1 and looking to win the game but we were losing a bit of control and Omrani helped solidify the midfield. I wouldn’t advocate changing anything about how we’re playing at the moment but potentially the beginnings of a Plan B with Omrani and Fane in midfield when we need a more solid base for others to push on ahead? (although Omrani also does look like he can play a bit too)
  21. He puts in the effort too: one of the hardest trainers at the club. Might even help sneakers into the playoffs.
