  1. He was one of the top players in the world, but he has paid money to come and watch Oldham Athletic. I think that makes him a fan, even if he is not willing to give up part of his career or his wealth!
  2. Beat you to it in Next Manager thread! Not that I'm irrationally competitive or anything, honest....
  3. It really does get interestinger and interestinger every day. Boy am I glad that I didn't just decide to support Man U like all the other kids in my class in Middleton. Edit: do you think the unsigned trialists get paid?
  4. Sounds like he might be "a bit of a character"
  5. Mark Ward 5'6". Release by Everton for being too teeny weeny.
  6. If they are this short of cash I'm surprised that they postponed the Bury game - unless they are expecting the investment to close any day, but that does not seem likely given all the other signals. Strange.
  7. It's amazing what a difference it makes when facts and logic are added to the mix.
  8. That does seem to be true. No wonder he's never made it.
  9. Kevin Keegan was rejected by Coventry and Doncaster as a youngster for being too small. On balance, being a good player seems more important than anything else to me.
  10. Apparently it's not enough to be able to win the ball, beat players, play killer passes and score goals. It seems that there's a minimum height requirement too, like on rollercoasters.
  11. And a lot of talent. And a great temperament. And a tendency to entertain, which makes a change.
  12. Local one for me, the seats are more comfy than those in my living room, in my student days I sometimes used to go to see the real Dons before they were cheated out of existence and, of course, we are going to win 7-1, thereby obliterating the memory of that disgraceful performance by LJ's team. See you there.
  13. I agree with much of this. In my view, Simon Corney is a good guy who has kept us going when there was nobody else to do it, but if we don't get someone with more money, more ability and better friends asap then we are in big trouble. As I said last night, maybe the new investors are on a go slow to put the pressure on SC as the cash runs out and thereby give themselves the power to close a good deal. I really hope that's the case and that we see them come to an agreement soon and announce a lovely new structure where all this old baggage is gone and we have real investment.
  14. It seems to be totally binary at present: either we get rich new owners who do a full reconditioning of our once lovely club, or it hits the buffers. I don't care if the current owners lose out (although I do think SC has given everything he's got, and is probably a really good guy). I just want the deal to close asap - just wondering if the incoming investors are deliberately on a go slow now to put the pressure on as the funds run out - I've had that done to me and it happens every day.
  15. Indeed, but it seems we are about to find that we are now built of sturdier stuff. Fingers crossed.
  16. yes I just edited that, I'm having a very slack day, brain not working, but the principle remains the same, he really has got a shit record in the Championship, and only got any success in the Scottish second tier. So not exactly a superb track record.
  17. couple more articles... https://thesetpieces.com/interviews/interview-oldham-caretaker-richie-wellens/ http://www.espn.co.uk/football/oldham-athletic/story/3219830/clarence-seedorf-wants-premier-league-or-championship-job-sources Please note Stubbs - if Ritchie does well tonight then hopefully it kills that line of work.
  18. Said that he wants the job and wants to build for the long term. Would also be happy to work for Clarence. I think this quote that if he doesn't get it then he will leave was a misquote. I heard from his interviews on Saturday that, whatever happens, he has to have a job in football because that's his life. So if we offer him a position in a good management team with a career path and real influence I think he would stay. Says that he's really pleased for the fans, who have been great, because the last 2 performances were brilliant. Wants to start the building work for the club immediately and was very much against long ball, defensive football, changing out 10 players every season and replacing them with 10 others from "random places".
  19. We could have an argument. I could tell you off for not using a question mark and you could call me a pedantic old git. Isn't that what we are supposed to do anyway?
