  1. No idea but I'm sure his agent will be looking at the small print. Whatever, he'll still remain on Hulls payroll until his contract expires and unless something can be worked out we'll be invoiced for whatever we have agreed to pay each month towards his wages.
  2. Knew this was coming after the way he sprinted off the pitch last night. Never seen somebody get off so quick - no handshakes or hanging around with his teammates just a straight sprint up the tunnel. Can't have helped his mood that Lewi was the first change (which I thought was the correct sub at the time). Saw something on one of the BBC's 606 boards this morning saying he was going to Colchester. Don't know if there's anything in that.
  3. Is that the place where you can drink as much as you want for £5.99 ? - suppose he can't be accused of wasting all his money on booze
  4. We will miss him as the alternatives are somewhat limited : Lomax - needs a break after whats happened at Hereford & I would think Stockport would target him to see if he's up to the job Hazell - Offers nothing at all when going forward Lee - Never seen him at full back although I believe he played left back for United reserves. Does he have the pace ?, didn't look blessed with it whenever I've seen him. Also despite what people think about Eardley he's the only one who can cross the ball at pace from a wide position. Perhaps he'll put Taylor there - didn't he start as a right back
  5. He didn't mention the fact that neither him or Liam have never actually been to Eastlands to see City play, the only time they have visited the place was for their concerts - true supporters they are -
  6. He was warming up with the rest of the players before the Cheltenham game. I would expect him to be in the squad very soon.
  7. I am just wondering how on earth we would cope in the Championship given our crowds. A quick glance of the attendances in that league would suggest that with the exception of the Donkey Lashers most clubs can pull in between 15,000 - 20,000. Now at the moment our ground won't even hold that many fans. Given the expected salaries at that level how could we attract or even retain our players without getting into a terrible financial mess. I don't know what we could reasonably expect to average in the Championship but I bet it wouldn't be much more than 8,000 - 8,500. Last time we were in that league that was probably considered an average / just below average attendance but things have moved on at that level now and the clubs all seem to be well supported. Not for a minute am I suggesting we shouldn't aim at that level but I would think Simon's concerns now are nothing like what they would be in the Championship, even given the extra TV money.
  8. From memory Bobby Collins wasn't slim in the early 70's. About 5 feet tall and about as wide. Mind you I think he was well into his 40's when he came to us. Never thought of John Hurst as fat though. That Polish midfielder Kowenicki wasn't slim either. Derek Parker looked well overweight, as well as slow and useless.
  9. I've not bought it but have seen it. "Legends" is perhaps stretching it a bit as virtually anybody who has played for us in the last few years is featured. The book consists of a photograph of the player on one page with a narrative on the other page. Won't tell you anything you didn't already know. The MEN have done similar books for other Greater Manchester Clubs. Personally I wouldn't buy.
  10. Groves & Whittle. What wouldn't we give to have those two on the left side of our team today.
  11. "As a 35-year-old I’m very proud of my fitness. There was only one player I couldn’t catch in pre-season – that was Chris O’Grady, but he’s a machine.” - Andy Liddell in todays Chron . Doesn't say much for the rest of the squad if a 35 year old is our second quickest, or could it be he's not telling the whole truth and the rest were in a 3 legged race
  12. Getting battered 6 - 0 at Luton, maybe late 70's early 80's. Not the most encouraging of starts to the new season
  13. The People's "Football Writers" are also asked to make their predictions about who is going up & down from each division. Amongst the gems these writers have come up when asked to name 3 teams from League 2 who will get relegated one opted for Chester, Dagenham & Redbridge Another plumped for Rochdale Even thugh I get the paper myself, they seem to know bugger all about life outside the Premiership so take whatever you read with a huge pinch of salt.
  14. In the same paper it also says QPR appointed Dowie on the basis of him leading Palace & Oldham to promotion Another well researched piece of journalism. I'd take it with a pinch of salt given the papers track record of who we are supposed to be buying or selling
  15. "Physios Marc Czuczman and Jon Guy attribute the lack of injuries to the players being given fitness schedules for the close season to help keep in shape. As Lee was signed after his team-mates went on their summer break, he did not undertake the same work as they did." In other words - this injury has nowt to do with us.
  16. See he's making himself at home - he's already bagged the treatment table
  17. Should have docked them another 15 points for wasting peoples time
  18. Certainly wasn't for the money. Seem to recall it was only a nominal fee we got. At the time we sold him he seemed to have fallen out of favour with Sir Jim. Was still gutted when he was sold though.
  19. Contracted to 2010 apparently. don't often notice opposition players but he caught the eye. Moved from Liverpool to Bristol City where he hardly got a game but then onto Cheltenham. Wouldn't mind him at all. Looks far too good for League 2 if they go down.
  20. Would have been nice if the club could have got David Shaw & Jim Fryett back for the last game for the Ford Stand. After all they were the major reason it was built in the first place. Mind you I think Jim's living in America these days so his airfare may have been beyond us Davids still local though.
  21. My first season as a Latics fan coincided with the opening of the Ford Stand. Spent my first 6 or 7 years watching from the paddock, may have been longer, until they closed it in the late 70's/early 80's. Best memories - sitting on the wall on the half way line during the 73/74 season & listening to Grovesie chatting to the crowd. the Huddersfield match stands out when we won promotion - Keith Hicks jumped over the wall and into the paddock at the end of the match to celebrate with the fans. Remember going in the new stand for what I think was it's first ever game, a pre season friendly against Bury.
  22. Not really surprised they have had a re-think on the number of flats. Working in Manchester I can see the place is absolutely saturated with 2 bedroomed flats for sale / to let. In fact a recent article in the papers suggested there are simply too many of these similar properties about and prices are falling fast. So to sell 600 + of these units in Oldham was always going to be a big ask, I suspect the developers know that as well. I think the new main stand will get built as that is how they are planning to meet their monthly running costs or reduce the monthly loss at any rate but I'm really not sure about the rest of the planned development.
  23. I was thinking about this yesterday whilst watching that dreadful first half. I think that unless the club offer some form of incentive (ie a ticket for around the £200 - £250 mark) I won't be getting a season ticket next time and I've had one without thinking about it for the last 25 years. Certainly not if they are again going to be asking for £330 +.The standard of football is really poor for the money we are being asked to fork out and to be honest I just haven't enjoyed the majority of home games this season. Add to that fact that it's a 50 mile round trip for me when the majority of Oldhamers can't be bothered crossing the road to support their team has made this a quite depressing season. I'll still go to the matches but will probably pick and choose - certainly no more Lutons /Bournemouths/Hartlepools or whatever on a cold Tuesday night. It's just really depressing seeing the side filled with loan players who are no more than journeymen hoping to pick up as much as they can for as little effort as they can get away with. Add to that our inability to attract any sort of decent player when it was really needed in January, for the 2nd season running, means I can't see any way out of this dreadful division in the near future. I thought we had a brilliant opportunity to push on after the Leeds & Everton games but instead we got absolutely nothing. I think the club as a whole needs to spark more interest amongst fans. I still have a dreadful feeling this whole stadium saga isn't going to happen and we'll end up with 3 stands or at best the NSM being rebuilt and then having to tell fans theres no more money left to re-develop the rest of the ground. The silence from the club on this since they got planning permission has been deafening. Perhaps I'll feel different in the Summer if they make some decent signings and the boards ambition becomes a little clearer but at the moment it just feels like a club going nowhere.
  24. Forwards - Jim Steel & Derek Spence Midfield / winger - Carl Valentine
