Being 33 points behind the only team in the league (bar Southend) that one can say is comparable in size to us is an utter disgrace. This season has been a huge disapointment so far.

I don’t buy into the idea that the way we have been run for so long explains why it is taking time to turn it around on the pitch. The easiest and quickest bit to sort is the on pitch stuff if you provide the funds.

Scunthorpe seem to have sorted their shit out pretty quickly.

And don’t go quoting the number of years Wrexham et al were in NL. We have had financial backing from day 1. We should be significantly further along than we are.

Amongst the most asinine posts I have ever read on here, which is saying something.

So much for unity among fans.

”Their guy” is actually our guy. He’s our manager. Try getting behind him.

  3. I think we all need to calm down, there's too much infighting and insult-throwing going on. I've done it myself and if you stop and think for a mo, it's pretty daft and pointless. Let's concentrate on the football (I know, I know, sorry!) and remember that we all want the same thing, to see the club we all love on an upward curve. It may happen this season, it may have to be next, or later, but as the great Bryan Ferry said, let's stick together.

We all know it's because he hasn't responded to your emails. This grudge that your holding is starting to grate.

To be fair it's not just @BP1960 complaining about the playing style. But, as @League one forever has repeatedly pointed out, the playing style can and will be tolerated as long as it's successful. When we lose or draw, naturally the complaints and number of unhappy punters shoot up. I can put up with hoofball as it's being called if it gets us back to League 2 - though I wouldn't want it to continue once we are a proper league club again.

For what it's worth, I think we probably will just miss the play-offs and, if we do get there, I don't think this squad has the mentality to get through them. But the big picture is surely that we are making progress after decades of going backwards. MM fully deserves a pre-season to reshape the squad free from the pressure of one/two games a week and then we go again next season. Calls to sack him are crazy in my view.

Watched both games live on National TV.

Fylde out ran us whereas Aldershot  was worse for me due to the total inability of the players to pass the ball to each other.

He's a good lad Is @rudemedic we have many a good chat during home matches.

I Watch full replays too of other matches and the Curzon Ashton centre back Devon Matthews has impressed me, he looks higher league bound.

Not to us though as we already have enough I think.

And there’s nothing wrong with giving a view on a game that you’ve watched on TV as opposed to being in the ground. In fact I’d say you deserve praise for not reaching for the off switch.

My question to @rudemedic re school was meant to be tongue in cheek so I apologise to him and to you if it came over as a bit stroppy.

Fully agree with @Lee Sinnott surprised anyone else would say otherwise. You could see why Aldershot are in the playoffs but at Fylde you could also see why they were struggling.

As an aside given that I know what @BP1960 looks like as I sit next to him at home games (when I go) and I didn't see him at Aldershot and I think he said at the Alty home game he didn't go to Fylde...

I’ve had a pop at @BP1960 myself in the past, but your comment there is puerile. I’m guessing, but it’s possible he streamed both games isn’t it? Did you carefully scrutinise all 400+ of our fans to be able to question whether he was at Aldershot?
Were you one of those who ratted on kids playing truant at school by any chance?

Only two players in that line-up have scored a goal, according to BBC Radio Surrey...

You/BBC Surrey highlighted something there that's been bugging me for a while. I think the two players mentioned were Hogan (1 goal all season) and Garner. I know the main responsibility lies with the strikers, but our defenders have contributed that 1 league goal all season and the midfield have come up with about 13 I think, but 11 of those are from Sheron (6) and Dickenson (5, now out on loan). I don't know if that's down to tactics, playing style or ability (lack of) but it's a poor return and surely more players should be contributing.

From where we were under Unsworth to where we are now is a massive achievement we could have only dreamed of being in the play offs with less than 10 games to go.

Well guess what we are, albeit not by playing attractive football but grinding out results and playing players out of position.

Rome wasn't built in a day, but by heck if by a small miracle we get promoted who the hell will care if we played hoof ball, Mellon ball or what ever type of ball is being played but I am damn sure we will all be celebrating our first promotion for over 30 years with our friends and family on play off day.

If we don't get out of the league this season then MM will have done a decent job achieved the aims of the club which would have been reach the play offs and then have a full pre season, another transfer window and hopefully freed up some cash from the contracts of the deadwood and we go again.

Right now, I wouldn't expect any other manager within our budget to be doing any better with the squad at his disposal.

Well, all except @deyres42maybe. Though on second thoughts he'll probably tell us he always knew we'd go up.

So basically we are playing 6 at the back at home because Mcghahey is needed to plug the gaps and break up play that 5 defenders can't cope with, we were playing at times last night with four centrehalfs, two full backs and Conlon and Sheron on the centre backs toes, as a result the only ball out was a 60 yard cross field punt that we had to hope stuck to Norwood and Garner (which invariably it didn't).

Now I know some will argue we haven't the players but I'm getting the feeling this is what Mellon is asking them to do, where was the outball last night, where were the legs and the willing runners, three of our most effective players in recent weeks were left out and replaced with players who couldn't match their performances, I know Green was injured but where was the attacking intent out wide, Walker not even in the matchday squad despite being fit to play, Atherton can't get a sniff even from the bench because Micky doesn't trust you unless your 35. Hammond whose ran at teams in recent weeks dropped and Dallas looks like a raffle winner who needs game time but you couldn't trust him to give you anything.

It was dire again yet most of our fans are celebrating the fact we've took a good point off fucking Bromley at home, really. A point a game at home under Mellon is embarrassing, that's not progress as evidenced by the piss poor crowd again last night.

Finally if McGahey is the answer we're fucked, Mellons had ample opportunity to bring in the players we need but we still look absolutely devoid of ideas and attacking intent, we were told by all those ITK that we'd play better against the better teams in the division at home, well I think that myths been debunked, it's awful, mind numbingly shite to watch us at home yet Mellon continues to stick to his guns churning out the same shite week after week and is that stubborn he'll stick to his guns, if the away form slips at any stage we'll probably slip out of the playoffs which is criminal really given the money being blown on this squad.

You say "fucking Bromley" as if we are still a league team and should thrash them, but we're not - like it or not we're non league just like them. They finished 7th last season and got to the play-off semi-finals, only losing 3-2 in extra time to Chesterfield. This season they've been top 3 for quite a while. Maybe the performance was disappointing last night, but a 0-0 against a promotion contender isn't the end of the world.

Good stuff, let's see where he finishes up in the only table that really matters.

No, preposterous observation. Your earlier post indicates that we are going nowhere. MM out. He's had "plenty of time" 🤣🤣🤣 to sort this, we should be on our 3rd or 4th manager of the season by now.

Cheers mate. We are too inconsistent I think, our current position of 9th feels about right. We''ll see - if we do make it it will because we have suddenly found something, and you know what we are like when we do.

Actually, we are, after five years or so under Mr. Sadler, pretty much exactly where we started in terms of League position. And he has put around £16m in so far.

    A sobering thought.

Re your earlier post, your opinion counts for rather more than bugger all. It's a much needed objective view, especially as regards this particular thread!!!

I totally get furore about player wages, although they are what they are, but transfer fees are only paid to other football clubs - typically smaller ones

How much of transfer fees do agents swallow up? I'd also like to see the typical average transfer fees paid by PL and Championship clubs to L1/L2/NL clubs - when they are not poaching the latter's youth players, that is.

Not sure it's just budgets, more just simple geography.

I'm not sure geography is ultimately all that relevant except in the inescapable fact that professional football clubs are clustered in some parts of the country, like the north west obviously, and less so in others like Devon and Cornwall, East Anglia, Hereford and Worcs for example. My point was rather that the dice are more stacked than ever against lower league and non league clubs when compared to the wealthy elite. When a Bury FC or (hopefully not) Rochdale FC bites the dust while PL clubs pay vastly inflated transfer fees for one footed players, the game is not in a good place.

Stretching this thread title a little as it's National League South (and a Latics forum of course) but...

Truro City's nomadic existence reached a whole new level of farce today.  Starting the season playing in Plymouth (2h30 round trip from Truro) they agreed to groundshare with Taunton (near 5 hour round trip) out of fear of not completing their "home" fixtures due to so many postponements.

Of course Taunton are struggling to complete their own home fixtures with their already boggy pitch and, since this agreement, Truro haven't managed to play a "home" game in Taunton.

So when Truro play at "home" to Taunton on Saturday, naturally the match is taking place at National League North side Gloucester City's ground.  A 400-mile, 7 hour round trip for a home game!  It would actually be 2 hours and 100 miles (round trip) closer for Latics to play a home game there.

Add that to Torquay's financial problems and it's fair to say that non-league football down here in the South West isn't looking in great shape at present.

Amazing story, you couldn't make it up, could you. I know there has always been a big financial gap between the clubs at the top of the pyramid and those at the bottom, but when you read about things like this, regardless of blame, and then think about the budgets of PL clubs it really is a bit sad.
