A tough ask

Recommended Posts

Crossley, Pogliacomi, Gregan, Livermore, Allott, Liddell, Alessandra, Davies, Hughes - Thompson (bench yesterday), Jarret (played for 33 minutes), PLUS Kilkenny, Bertrand - an injury list to rival most I think.

So where was Lewis yesterday? How long is Allot out for? And when will Hughes and Davies return? Anyone know?

It may be too late for the play-offs I feel but it would be good to get some of them back and playing before the end of the season huh?

Lewis was walking disconsolately around the perimeter with hands in pocket. But Shez thinks he might be ok for Saturday.

Allott we don't know. There's a chance he might be back for Easter.

Hughes has had a setback and is seeing a specialist.

Davies said he was still a couple of weeks away.

Gregan played 45 min for the reserves and is set to do again this week, so hope will be in contention for the weekend.

Thompson played well when coming on as sub and will probably start against Millwall.

kilkenny plays for leeds and bertrand went back out on loan elsewhere,so i would say it would be a miracle to ask them to play for us on saturday??!!!

gregan liddell are both long term injuries as is thompson,so we may have missed them but there not new injuries.....

no its not a big ask, they are proffessional football players, who are 3 points off the playoff spots with everything to play for,in the hope we go up and they get more money.....not a big ask at all really,if they cant get themself up for a situation like this they shouldnt be playing in the first place, should they.

I agree that the players should shoulder some of the blame for the poor performances throughout the season but other factors are involved as we all know, not at least the injury list.

Thompson has been out since Accrington in the TinPot Cup but from all accounts did well yesterday when he returned and hopefully he will start to show us why we signed him in the first place.

Gregan has been a massive loss for us this season just his presence on the field is enough to make forwards worry about him, him and Rubes will make a forbidable partnership IMO.

Lidd's has been missed for his quality ball into the box.

Killkenny never really played to his full potential whilst he was with us.

But what we have really missed is a strong, gobby captain to rally the troops in some of the bad times. Eardley's seems to be the only one who wanted it at the time. Obviously nobody else wanted the responsablity of being captain which in my mind says alot about the players we currently have. For me the likes of Mcdonald, Allott, Hazel & Stam should have been stepping you to the challenge.

But in saying all that some of the Tatics, Selections & Subs have been strange at times but we should be having faith in Shez after all he is a Young Manager of a Young Side and both are still learning the game.

Definietly a big ask. Needs more rethink of the training methods we have used and how to potentially alter this for future situations to reduce the level of injuries.

Bring back John Harbin!

Teams like Chelsea and scum moan when they have a couple of their top players out - what frikkin chance have WE got???

Crosso, Greegs, Lidds, Hughes, Davies and now Lewis - you are talking bout our bessie goallie, defender, midfielder and strikers. I know Luton are poor but take the backbone out of any side and you are gonna struggle. Apart from Hughesy (out of the game for so long!) dont understand why so many injuries. I keep saying IF we get our best xi out but ufortunately dont think that is ever gonna happen!!

thats true to a certain extent.

but isnt it the managers job to build a team and squad to cover most eventualitys??? shouldnt the manager and his team have enough players in the squad to cope with injuries.

Exactly. That is the the spine of the side and a few of them have been missing for a very long time. To be in the position we are in I think we've done pretty well. Just annoying Saturday that a chance for some to push their chances of staying in the team when the main players get back to fitness was wasted.

yes i know its league one,and no you dont need 50 players, but i dont think its too much of an ask to have a squad of around 30 players, other teams seem to have this.

and dont kid yourself about our debt,it isnt anywhere near what it was 3 seasons agon, after a good few cup runs and trottmans sale its virtually wiped out.

to get out of this division you need a team of 4 strikers 10 midfielders and 10 defenders with 3 keepers, two decent one promising, not only does it give you depth to cover injuries it also gives players a wake up call saying if you dont perform week in week out there is somebody waiting to come in and fight for your place.then if you get really decimated with injuries you have the loans as back up.

there are some decent players out there in the mould of hazell, they just need to be unearthed, other managers manage it,if shez is struggling he should ask for help.

OMG....you seriously are deluded about the state the club is in! We are still loseing money on a weekly basis!!!!

We need 8,000 fans to break even.....we barely made 4 in the last couple of games!!!

30! wow wow to big am afraid not on the crowds we are getting. We had 38 players on the staff being paid top dollar during the Dowie season thats why we got into such problems. So if we had a squad that big the quality of the team would not be of sufficent standard to get us out of this divison.

What we have to ask ourselves for next season is how many are going to be fit and be available to play 40-50 games for us. The big problem for Greegs and Liddell is staying fit for the whole of next season as they are at the age where playing pro football for 15+ years may have taken its toll and they will pick up niggles more often than they did 5-10 years ago.

What the hell are you on about?

Lol....I just find it sadly ironic to see you talking about our attendances when you couldn't be arsed to turn up for FA Cup games like Donny and Crewe at home

Carry on though....I'll sit back and laugh at the hypocrisy of it all

:censored: me, now you're lying too. FA CUP....not LDV! And it was nothing to do with funds, you were bleating about "wife-time" etc. amongst other excuses. Want me to go find some quotes? Nope, thought not, coz we both know it's true

Carry on though...as you were...

EDIT: Haha....

Im lucky, I have no kids to support etc so I can easily afford to go games.

FA Cup....LDV....I cant bloody remember and its not all that important!!! You seem to know my life better than me!! and thats just really sad....almost as sad as going back through about 4 months worth of posts.... do u still live with your mother ?? You do dont you :)

I have missed /picked and chossen games (practically at night) for a number of reasons.....wife time and money have been issues. I have no kids so I can afford to go the games (generally speaking) but paying £20 to watch the FA Cup 2nd round is a hard justification to make to the wife. Specially considering I live in Warrington and I wouldnt get back to late (public transport) / work in the morningetc....

Dont know what you want for me but your truely are a little bit sad arent you

To be fair OAFC0000 he is someone who turns up pretty regularly by all accounts having a pop at people on here is the wrong place as the people that use this site are the ones who go regularly and as often as possible.

While I appreciate that like you I look around BP and feel a little miffed at the empty seats, what do we do when the good times roll around again (and despite what a few say on here they will at some point) and we are in the championship in a nice new stadium with a 10000 average. Do we turn the thousands of extra people away on the grounds that they weren't their to see us get beat 1-0 against Hartlepool back on 04/03/08.

Sadly the reality is that these are the market forces that a football club has to deal with the better we are doing the more fans we attract the worse we do the less we attract its always been like that for every football club in the world and always will be whether we like it or not am sure TTA as shrewd business people are well aware of this before they took on the mantle of being Gaurdians of OAFC.

im not deluded.not as much as you are by all accounts.

if our debt is still the same as it was 3 years ago then yes we are :censored:ed!!!and tta's have missmanaged our club.

if you cast your mind back a few years when they delivered a statement saying that for the first five years of there tenure they wouldnt be including any cup run money in there operating funds, this was as i beleive to be given to managers for players,or if none were available or good enough then to pay off some of our debt.

this season we should(asccording to tta's)break even, the trottman money is a bonus, the cup runs have been a bonus, doesnt matter that we only get a hard core of 4k fans turning up,the money from cup runs and transfers has wiped our debt off,or very nearly.

next season may be a problem revenus wise, with the stand coming down and reduced capacity, but thats next season, and there is no saying were not going to get a stupid offer for someone or go on another cup run and get tv money.
